DDOS attacks - targeting PSN, Spotify, Netflix, Comcast, etc

I have a rule of never playing games unpatched. If I'm playing a game for the first time, I make sure to download the latest updates beforehand for an optimal experience.

Ah, I can relate to that, especially when a game like TLOU had save bug before patching.

Man... I was going to queue up the WoFF demo for messing with after work. Why can't these guys DDoS media outlets or the government and leave my entertainment be!

Italy here, many dns errors on lots of websites, PSN down.

This is something BIG.

More than big, huge.

I would bet it's not some fucked up kid's group playing hackers.

Yeah, PSN is down in Ireland right now. Only realised when I tried to sign into Final Fantasy XIV. Darn script-kiddies -- don't they know I have dailies to do!?

Instead of attacking companies directly, alot attacks have been aimed towards Dyn that are part of alot of those services.

Pretty smart to go that route instead of just attacking one or two companies directly.

Dammit, I have a 3 day weekend and really wanted to play BF1. Hopefully this is resolved asap. I really hate people sometimes.

Is there actually DDoS attacks on these services, or is it just the DDoS attacks on the DNS servers that's going on right now that is affecting a shit ton of sites and services?

Turned on my ps4 to see if I could play some Overwatch for the first time in a week only to see PSN is down along with a large chunk of the Internet.I'm kinda amazed at the scale of this DDOS attack though. Oh well Cold Steel it is in the meantime.

First time I see dns problems that big and diffused all around the world.

That's the backbone of the Internet. It is protected very well and this is not the first time someone tried an attack against it.

Managed to 'sign in' to the PSN on my PS4, but the store doesn't work, i cant get on Star Trek Online at all. Going to try some other online games and see how they go

Has there ever been an attack like this in the past? Seems interesting nobody has ever attacked a major DNS server provider before.

twitter down for me......I mean it's fine

BUT

it also took down GitHub and Homebrew....Now I can't work....guess time for an early friday taking off

Can't connect to PSN and play Overwatch because some 400 pound hacker is sitting on his bed and doing The Cyber. SAD!

seriously though, this sucks :/

"Flashpoint is now reporting that the attack on Dyn today is in fact being launched by a Mirai-based IoT botnet" Krebs on twitter

"The total number of IoT devices infected with the Mirai malware has reached 493,000, up from 213,000 bots before the source code was disclosed around Oct. 1, according to internet backbone provider Level 3 Communications."

Internet of Things with Their Own Agenda, apparently.

Same in Singapore, and not just PSN. Of the ones I tried, several msm sites loading very slowly or not at all, and Twitter. Amazon is working fine though.

So basically we're under attack by lightbulbs and wifi kettles?
