It's just a stupid piece of shit, just like everything else included in any CE.
I'd be as embarrassed displaying this as I would be with any other video game pack in.
It's probably fair to say that anyone who would want to display this visibly in their home likely doesn't bring a lot of girls over very often.
How male is GAF?
98%?
Exactly. It's all cheesy "collectibles", they look bad in anything but a "gaming"/dude room (something with a big screen tv and a bar usually).
Context is a fickle thing. This is a studio that already had a sexism shitstorm brew around them. Along with the cheeky "WARNING CONTAINS CONTENT THAT MAY CAUSE OFFENSE" sticker it sort of feels like they're having a go.
Either way, it's a doofy CE. I'd buy the joking angle if the game wasn't so self serious and they didn't already have a history of stupid stuff like this.
What are you talking about? Men have *not* been sexualized to nearly the same extent that women have in media. That's the whole issue with the bust. The ideal physique of both men and women in modern media are dictated by mens' tastes. Yes, to the extent there is sex in media, a man is a participant, but the focus is almost always on the woman--it is she that is being reduced to a sex object.
And since you asked so nicely for the journal text of an actual study showing how consumption of media shapes mens' views towards women, here you go: http://www.behavior.net/JOB/v1n4/emmers-sommer.html
If you don't want to read it all: "What can be concluded from the results of this study is that consumption of coercive pornography relates to the strongest acceptance of rape myths."
Theoretically, results of this study offer more support for an aggression model perspective than for a social learning or a feminist perspective reflected in a relationship between rape myth acceptance and consumption of coercive pornography online. From a social learning perspective, hardcore porn would have yielded an effect, and it did not.
Aren't you making my point for me? The selling point is the sexualization of an otherwise brualized torso with perfect breasts.
The most tiresome posts in this thread are from people who go
"You're not REALLY offended, because I'm not!"
"I bet if you show this to any woman, they think it's silly but not offensive!"
"This thread annoys me because you people are just FAKING your outrage"
"It must be so tiresome getting annoyed about everything, this sure doesn't annoy me!
and variations thereof.
I'm always hesitant to believe that marketing companies are really that clever. The more I think about it the more I'm starting to feel they never intended to make this statue at all. The whole thing was probably nothing but a stunt to get attention and it seemed to work.
Agreed. Or actively participate in efforts to stop mistreatment of women (or other various social issues). Anything beyond trying to push moral superiority on people you dont even know over the internet. This is no hidden, one sided agenda here. If you feel you want to fight for something greater than yourself in your life, go join the army/navy etc. There is no war in here. Just needless drama.
First post nailed it. That's truly awful.
Who would buy such a thing?
Threads like this make me feel older every day ;PIts not even that bad. You guys are all 50 years old or something?

even more frustrating are the scores and scores of people who's sole contribution to the tread, especially this far into it, is
"god, you people are offended by boobs? what's wrong with boobs? there's blood too! do you not care about the blood?"
yes, trolls, it's the mere fact that there are breasts on this statue that offends us so greatly. you've figured it out. well done.

Shit is disgusting, putting the focus on tits on a mutilated and decapitated stump of a chest as some kind of art piece. Different strokes and all that, but this thing is disturbing. That said, bashing the skulls of bikini clad zombies until there's only a half-jaw and blood geyser in-game is worse. (I own the game, and enjoyed my time with it BTW)
I get that people are offended, and I get that people are into gore and don't know what the big deal is. What I don't get is that people are upset that others are offended.
You need to go back to stereotyping 101 class. I feel sorry for you for the people you've come across to have made you think that Mortal Kombat fans would jump all over this.A good chunk of the MK fanbase I'd assume.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised this fucking picture made its appearance in this thread.
What is that you find offensive? I mean...you don't like it, don't buy it. It is not a insult and it does not pretend to be art. Thay also sell awful gorey merchandising from....I don't know, Alien. What is the difference here, that the mutilated body is a woman?? The cover art for Left 4 Dead is a mutilated hand....it's gross too, what is the difference?
I won't, but nor am I seeking to keep it from sale. What is that you find offensive? I mean...you don't like it, don't buy it.

I'm sure this is exactly what Stephen Fry had in mind when he said that. Good point. You certainly won this debate.
I hope it doesn't say a lot about me or my views of women that the first thing I thought was not outrage but just why? I mean, it's a terrible collector's item, but I don't think it's terrible because there are a pair of breasts on it.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised this fucking picture made its appearance in this thread.
This statue is disgusting and seriously unnecessary.
Honestly, I wouldn't want to display a dismembered male torso in my living room either, but each to their own.Have you ever been to the beach? Ugh. All the women showing their breasts. It's repulsive. I cannot believe the female form is so shameless in the way that it exists. I'm outraged.
But this? What's the big deal? White knight feminazi overly sensitive sissies. Sheesh. You act like you've never seen a bloody torso with perfectly intact boobs before... And in convenient trophy form! Nothing unsettling here.
would anyone have a problem with changing it to a replica of fabio's torso
