Dead Space Extraction (Wii - EA/Eurocom) Details, Trailer

2nd functions on the weapons is cool, but its a shame it requires an on-screen reticle. I loved that you could turn it off completely in Overkill, it really adds to the light gun feel of the game. I didn't play 1 sec of that game with it on, feels a bit cheaper when you have to drag your aiming cursor across the screen.

Shooting blind is the real hardcore :)

I wonder if they will have Hard or Expert with no reticle, I mean I see know reason it has to be there besides to aid the user on Easy or Normal.

Yeah, in the interview the developer said they want some exploration in it as well. That means some time to recover and grab some items. (the better items are harder to get of course) And you can choose other paths, you saw the main character switching paths with some blue line.

Well...duh!

:lol You know what I mean.

It's kind of funny that the interviewer says at the end that Wii gamers don't have many horror games to look forward to.

They're quite a few horror games coming to the Wii in the future.

Wow finally some decent footage and it looks pretty great. I'm still shocked that they didn't just make it a slower-paced(Metroid Prime like) FPS game. The on-rail shooting gameplay just doesn't make any sense.

I'm actually looking forward to play this, while I liked Dead Space it was a little slow paced for me. I just wanted to kill more stuff. So Extraction probably will work pretty well for me. Dismembering is just a lot fun. :)

it actually looks really good. the character models look a lot better than i was expecting. I guess I should have known since Dead space was being developed for the xbox at one time.

I love on rails shooters so I'm definitely looking forward to this.
I usually like really arcade style games like Ghost Squad but hopefully this game will be quick fire action in some parts as well.

Correction, we weren't developing it "for" the Xbox we were developing it "on" the Xbox because our engine wasn't up on the 360 yet.

Hmmm...after looking at the little trailer, I still can't get pumped. Looks like any other lightgun game to me. Not saying it won't be fun, but I get little play value out of these games even though I like the genre. Unless the game turns out to be 20 hours or something, I'll probably be picking this up later on in the year.

and so what? it's not the visuals that excite me, though it's certainly a plus, it's the gameplay. Silent Hill has presented a very intriguing and ambitious game design in their psychological profiling system and dynamic plot structure. this is a rail shooter with some mildly interesting gimmicks, but still isn't enough to interest me, simply because it's "safe." i don't want "safe" i want smart.
Did you miss the part where they say the gameplay is as good as the graphics?

Looks a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I'd prefer a 'full' control game, either as a shooter or a third person game, but there appears to be some great quality here.

Hopefully the final product is fleshed out. I really want the game to be chock full of content and decent in length.

Those gamespot comments, they gotta tick ya off a little bit.

Wait, it's on-rails? I might actually get it then. I fucking loved Ghost Squad and Resident Evil. They can just stop making games where you walk around yourself. The on-rails are much more fun.

Lightgun games have it tough on the Wii since there've been some stellar entries alongside re-releases of old classics already. You really need to deliver a top product to be recognised.

That said, this looks like a winner.

I guess this is the whole "guided" experience they are talking about.

I saw Extraction on Electric PLay Ground and they continue to firmly stress "guided" without going into any real detail, the footage looks good, I'm gonna give this a chance.

Just because I feel like ranting:

Hmmm. When they showed that little sequence in the gamespot trailer I had flashbacks to the RE:UC Gas explosion QTE that I only ever managed to survive once. Did you see how jittery that cursor was? I just know that I will have neither the time nor the motor control skills to solve this - especially not if a Zombie is gnawing on my buttocks, which will likely happen.

And then that boarding(?) sequence where they shoot at debris and what I assume is automated defense system missiles. Reminded me of the asteroid defense sequence in Dead Space - another sequence that pissed me off like you wouldn't believe (might be a HD/SD problem though). Argh.

And oh god, the next time a dev says that he's/they're "reeeeally big fans of the Wii" at the very beginning of the Interview, like some sort of disclaimer... I dunno. It's starting to kind of bother me. It's always the same wording, like some rehearsed standardized script.
I'M ON TO YOU GUYS!

OK, rant finished. I have nothing more to complain/hallucinate about.

Looks like the game is coming along nicely. Let's hope for the best.

You can add "We want to make a core game for the core gamers on the Wii" to your list.
Also "We believe there aren't game catering to this market on the Wii"

Another huge aspect that the team needed to deal with was the fact that the original Dead Space experience is one based on not only fear, but resource limitations. That's still the case in Extraction as well, with each gun (minus the default, single shot pistol) being limited in ammo.

The limited ammo really turns me off. It didn't work in UC and I doubt it will work here. Light gun games are fun because you can shoot things with impunity - after all that's the only thing you can do - shoot things.

Ammo hording only works in real survival horror games where you can backtrack and collect the stuff you missed or look for more. Getting thrown into a boss fight just as you happen to miss that box of ammo as the camera purposely pans all over the place is not my idea of fun. It sucks even worse when your weapon that does have unlimited ammo sucks major balls.

In RE:UC you had infinite ammo with the handgun and the game 'worked' despite what you say. Do you honestly think the game would have been better with infinite rockets - where you could kill almost anything in one shot?

This is the true definition of why survival-horror and on rail do not work together!

If there's no option of turning off the aim cursor then I'm not buyin', simple as that.

Hopefully they'll rethink it and include it as an option because I'm sure I'd like this game, don't you guys at Eurocom want my money? :/

They have my attention. I'm a lightgun whore though :D .

I would like the option as well but it's not a deal breaker for me. I can see where Dash is coming from but UC was fun even though there wasn't an option to turn off the crosshair so I'm hopeful this will deliver as well.

I wonder if any on-rail shooters have a "smart" camera system where it reacts to the environment. For example, you have just entered a room where there are monsters coming at you. Naturally, you use your Wiimote to shoot the monsters and the screen will stay there for you to finish shooting all the monsters before proceeding to the next scenario. However, what if you did not manage to shoot all the monsters dead and a monster snuck up on you ? The screen still stays motionless on the same spot and your character takes damage ! Now what if the game's camera is smart enough to know to move back a bit like any human beings would if a damn monster snuck up in front of you ? I kind of hoped future on-rail shooters will feature a smarter camera movement than just motionlessly staying at the same spot for you to shoot all the monsters.

the way the camera moves in this game reminds me of those turbo ride things with the moving seats. im not really a fan of rail shooters but this one has my interest. looks really good.

sorry for the off-topicness:

didnt eurocom develop Sphinx and the cursed mummy last gen? it was a nice zelda clone with great enviroments and nice music.

I might keep an eye on this if it's from the same guys.

Because I hated RE:UC that way, I hated seemingly "dragging" the cursor around, didn't feel like I was shooting at all honestly and I could do with it if there wasn't inherent input lag with the way the Wii Remote works in this games if you can see where I'm coming from.

Maybe they'll pull it off to have a 1:1 no lag rendition of the cursor's movement but I'm highly skeptical since to do something close to that in the first place you should have a stable framerate possibly locked 60fps. It would've broken HotD:Overkill to me, for example: I tried playing that game with the cursor and shitty framerate made it impossibile to enjoy (to me).

I can't see why they couldn't include it as an option if the rumored info's true, at least differentiate from weapon to weapon? Some with the forced cursor, some without that...

New Gamepro impressions

http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/210470/dead-space-extraction-hands-on-and-limbs-off-preview/

When it was first announced, Dead Space: Extraction almost seemed sacrilegious to the Dead Space-loving editors at GamePro. A prequel to the original game, set in first person on rails and exclusively for the Wii? To our ears, it sounded like a worthless story that removed the immersive UI and amazing HD visuals we held so dear on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Now that we've seen the game and blasted off plenty of limbs, we're proud to report that our first assumptions were dead wrong.

If there's one thing that Dead Space: Extraction actually does better than the original, it's making the combat even more intense. Few will ever forget the first time they blew a limb off of a necromorph as it sped towards them, and we're proud to say that Dead Space: Extraction feels even more visceral.

Wow, I'm really surprised. Just looking at the game in trailers it really doesn't appeal to me, especially beside RE:DC. I guess I could be wrong though. Sounds very interesting.

Shacknews went hands on, say its basically a really creepy HoTD like game

http://www.shacknews.com/featuredarticle.x?id=1136
The announcement of a Dead Space game on the Wii was initially met with more trepidation than excitement from fans of the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the game. On one hand, Wii owners have every reason to be excited about having a game full of bloody zombie aliens instead of doe-eyed, super deformed children. On the other hand, some of us had legitimate concerns about how well the dark atmosphere and excellent presentation of the original would hold up on the technically inferior Wii hardware.

I played Dead Space Extraction recently at a pre-E3 press event at the Electronic Arts offices in Los Angeles and was pleasantly surprised at just how great the game looks and plays.
While the gameplay is very basic in Dead Space Extraction, the presentation is excellent and it certainly lives up to its pedigree. The Ishimura is a creepy place, and the lighting and sound effects do a great job of heightening the tension. The environments are nicely detailed and the frame rate seems to hold up well even with several enemies and special effects on screen.

Dead Space Extraction looks to continue the story and further flesh out the world established in the original, and that alone might be reason enough to play it

Hmm... sounds good to me.

No shaking to reload, nice. But you have to recharge that Glowworm flashlight thingy by shaking the Wii remote? Oh man, I'm seeing some scenarios in which you'll get burned when entering in combat with the Necromorphs.

"I've got a clear shot!"
*Glowworm goes out*
"Oh shiieee---"
