Dead Star is one of April's PS+ games

Looks too much like Galak-Z....

And I'm only saying that based on a few seconds of the video.

I kind of just want a standard shooter like Gradius....

Doesn't seem anything like Galak-Z in gameplay and mechanics. Just space and shooting.

If you want a shmup like Gradius on PS4, you should buy DariusBurst Chronicle Saviours. It's crazy good.

Jamestown+ is top down, 2D and and not high speed space ship technoporn, but is also a really good shmup.

Fuck yeah, I've had my eye on this one for a while and now it looks like I'm getting it for free.

It being a PS+ freebie means that the Multiplayer should be well populated (at least at the beginning) so that's good too!!!

Bracing for another month of nothing but uninteresting indie games, I guess. Not saying it's a bad game, just sick and tired of dual stick shooters.

I sure hope the game can keep a community for a while. Seems fun with friends.
EDIT: and by that I mean the game doesn't look much fun =/ it is just that having a good community helps. But who am I kidding; I won't be able to maintain regular play times (which means no friends to play with) and the community will either die quickly or rapidly become toxic. Considering it is a small game coming out close to The Division and Uncharted 4, I'm willing to bet it will barely exist at all to begin with.

Yes, Muse were the first thing that came to mind. They are still good though. Good in the sense of 'not-Coldplay-levels-of-horseshit'.

I'm already looking forward to indie comments when it's officially announced as a part of the line up.

Good as in 'they can still be technically impressive and make good songs once in a blue moon'.
I'm so bitter Muse is not what it once was.

Ok number one this is a very deep game. A combination of being somewhat deep + requiring lots of players to shine + price tag basically held it back. Going free on PS+ is one of the best things that could have happened to the game and something I personally pushed.

With that said, while not for everyone, this game is the spiritual successor of Subspace, the Station's Cosmic Rift, and Armada. It's definitely got the potential to attract a hardcore community. Don't count this one out, the game is not simple, requires a crapload of skill, and has some insane game modes like Capital Ship.

From the other thread:

Beta Test starting. A bunch of us tried the Alpha, game is alot of fun, strategic spaceship pew pew combat with interesting class play. Game feels alot like Subspace Continumm. I played extensively throughout the Alpha and think they've got something really good going on here. Anyone I gave an alpha key to, the game client you downloaded will work in the beta (will already have updated)

Also Crossplay between Steam and PS4!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dead Star Coming to Steam Early Access on Monday,

December 14th, 2015

12.09.15

“Fight for your life on the wild edge of the known universe in

Armature Studio’s brand new multiplayer space shooter”

Austin, Texas – Dec. 9 – Dead Star, a twin-stick multiplayer shooter from Armature Studio, releases onto Steam Early Access December 14th, 2015. Dead Star will retail at $14.99 during the early access period.

Dead Star is a PvP multiplayer space combat shooter with a fast-paced arcade feel. Choose between 12 different ships, each with a unique set of abilities, as you battle the opposing team in procedurally generated regions of space. Your combat skills and teamwork in 10 vs 10 player matches will determine whether you die in a blast of laser fire or gain infamy as the galaxy’s greatest pilot.

Earn rewards for your success in battle, ranging from cosmetic items such as ship paint styles and pilot portraits, to new technologies that can be used to permanently upgrade your ship’s abilities. To enhance the experience, a new mode known as Escape Run will be available later in Early Access. Escape Run will pit a team of five players against seemingly overwhelming odds as they escort a massive capital ship through a series of live multiplayer matches, creating 10 vs 10 vs 5 chaos.

Along with Steam Early Access, Dead Star is also available for pre-order on PlayStation 4 at $14.99. Dead Star is a cross-platform title, with the ability to match-make between PC and PlayStation 4 users. Both PlayStation 4 Pre-Order and Steam Early Access will gain immediate admission into the ongoing multiplayer Beta Test.

Dead Star... back when Muse were good. Back when they could do no wrong.

Well I'm both delighted I wasn't the only one to think of Muse, and saddened by the truth of this. They used to be so fucking good. Used to be.

Anyway, yay for another fun looking Indie I guess?

Same here. I enjoy playing hand-crafted levels that sombody took care to conceive and build.

While I definitely appreciate well crafted levels (hello dark souls/bloodborne/etc), for games like this, random level generation is essential to the replayability. Do you think I would have spent hundreds of hours with spelunky if the levels were the same all the time? Do you think people would be crazy about the binding of Isaac without all the randomness?

Granted, randomly generated content can be iffy at times, but when done well, it can make games so much more replayable.

Astebreed is also really good shmup.

As someone who really doesn't care for anything they did after Blackholes and Revelations, bar a handful of songs, I really like Drones. It's nowhere near Origin or Absolution, but it's really good.

Well, that leaves one game to look forward to. But I'm not very optimistic.
This game looks like it should be free anyway.

I was able to participate in the beta on PS4 and I really enjoyed it. It was fun playing with friends as well. Can't wait to try out more ships since I stuck to improving my skill with my three main ones.

People are probably going to see this when it's announced as PS Plus and assume it's a shmup. Oh whale.

PS Plus is a great way to jumpstart the playerbase. Count me in on this one.

Another PS+ thread, another time for people to hate on indie games.. It looks interesting, I've been pretty happy with most of the multiplayer focused PS+ games on ps4, so I'm definitely trying this one out.

Damn, that looks bad... They don't even try anymore, and the worst thing is i'll still have to subscribe just to play Street Fighter V and Uncharted IV

Game completely bombed on Steam, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game.

I think Sony is hoping for another Rocket League.

To some extent, I don't think Sony gives a shit anymore. They're probably trying to stay within a pretty tight budget and know that people can't quit Plus because of online. The games used to be the draw, but now they're just a bullet point Sony has to fill out each month.

Played at PSX was fun, dev was on our team and we destroyed the other team, strategy and tactics are needed. Fun give it a chance

Nice, another game I totally uninterested in. Also it's way too similar to Galak, can't Sony give different genres anymore?
Really, there's no mixing at all.

I didn't realize Galak-Z was a 10v10 multiplayer territory command game.

I mean, space shooter or whatever it is.
I don't play multiplayer games, but Dead Star looks too much like Galak (I didn't even know it was a multiplayer game).

Keep giving us the lesser known games. For selfish reasons I don't want aaa as it'll probably be something I've already beat :p

Where are the PS3 games? PS2 classics?

This. I only had an Xbox 360 last gen so there are a lot of great PS3 games that I never got to play. Those would really have a lot of value for me, since the remasters are usually fully priced as a new game. I nearly bit on Heavy Rain for £25 the other day, but I'm hoping that's the kind of thing we get on plus.
