Deadly Premonition Director's Cut PS3 officially announced

Aren't those the PS2 games where you survive through natural disasters? I would love to play those someday.

...but just to be clear: Is this like a Point n' Click game, or is survival horror?

It's a terribly-made lulzworthy game. Basically you have to survive through the area without getting hit by stuff and eating and keeping warm.

so happy...

i want a special edition without the combat sequences :(

and isn't a survival horror, is the open world version of twin peaks and countless b-movies

Greatest game I never played. ( only watched the GB Endurance Run and loved it so much )

If the DLC is substantial i'm absolutely picking this up.

I think a variant exists in games: when it's clearly low budget without even being clever about hiding it and maybe even kind of janky, but is still pretty entertaining. And likely covers the same stuff a proper B-movie would, as this is a mild case of and EDF is an extreme case of, EDF definitely has solid shooting mechanics and it's just plain fun to blow up stuff hundreds of times your size.

Okay, but the statement 'so bad/shitty it's good' says the core is bad/shitty when Deadly Premonition's core isn't, but parts of the experience certainly are. It's a perspective thing, but I agree. If it were truly shitty or bad, I don't think I or many others would enjoy or love it like we do, just like EDF or Disaster Report aren't really shitty, just uneven and lacking in polish or relative production quality level across all parts of the experience. It's really also up to standards of the player and what can set them off and turn them off from the whole experience. Like me with RE6...I think it's shit on a stick, but highly-polished shit with some solid, even great core elements that are often compromised by focusing on poorer bits too often. The same case could be made for DP, though DP doesn't have sixteen years of franchise and fan investment, expectation, and tens of millions of dollars behind its production and marketing.

From Twitter:

has it really been 3 years since I first played an early version of DP? So happy for @swery65 that his vision will finally be fully realized

Seems to imply that the changes will be significant! And Shane would know, I guess.

Had to laugh about this in the PS EU blog post about the game:

Along with the original story and gameplay, there are some great new features, including HD graphics, an updated control system, a brand new scenario from the game’s director, Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, and DLC to keep the mystery going once you complete the main campaign.

HD graphics on a modern console? What a great new feature!

The extra content had better also come to the 360. Or that will be my relationship with both SWERY and Rising Star Games brought to an abrupt end...

Very disappointed in how both dev and publisher are going about this release.

Hmm improved controls, there's hope that the shooting parts are easier now.

But they were already easy to the point of monotony.

The core of Deadly Premonition is rotten. Outstandingly retched and simplistic. It is the stuff around it that sparks interest. The York character, the wild plot, the bizarre cutscenes, and overall how quirky and odd the game is. If the game simply had fewer mechanics (such as no combat system) it would be improved. RE6, at the very least, isn't simplistic.

Controls, while sloppy in some areas, are not even a problem in the face of how vacant and stale the combat is. For starters they would need to make more than three times of enemies and make at least one of those enemies interesting. More than two bosses (which I admit were at least somewhat mentally stimulating) for sure. Then they'd probably have to balance the game around infinite ammo. Then... basically, they need to either get rid of combat or make it a whole new thing.

One of the worst games I've played this gen. Any good it achieved early on was undone by a shift into more serious territory and ramped up combat segments during the second half. I'd urge PS3 folks not to fall for the so-bad-it's-good angle, but obviously I can only speak for myself.

I agree somewhat, I felt if it had kept its tone from beginning to end it would have been perfect, but then it goes from just bizarre to "video game cliche" and that left me a bit bummed. In fact sort of follow Twin Peaks in its hype to :| meter, except we didn't get a kickass black lodge finale.

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut is both a love letter to fans that supported the game and a great update for new players.

Supporting the fans by not releasing the extra content on the original platform people played it on ?

yes i know the PS3 version had a release in Japan, but come on honestly who on GAF played THAT version ?
