Deadpool needed to be R-Rated because he is an inherently violent character. He is (or was) a mercenary for hire who murdered people for a living. Using guns and swords. So it would be odd for him to go around and kill people without showing how people would die/bleed with some degree of realism. I mean look at how Wolverine had to be handled due to the popularity of X-Men.

But besides that? Not really. He has always had dark and gory moments, but those have been few and far between for most of his comics. His regenerating ability doesn't have to be horribly gory, as the trailer shows.

His humor/language doesn't need to be r-rated. Deadpool has been pretty goofy since his inception. His humor isn't usually raunchy as much as it is just wacky combined with violence.

Also the next time we see Deadpool would likely be in an X-Force movie, which I doubt would be anything more than PG-13. Which is fine, because he can still work like that in a movie. He will just be wolverine'd in terms of violence/gore.

I'm happy for the production staff, particularly Ryan Renolds for pushing to make it happen and Tim Miller who directed the Blur Studios short that made it all happen and was given the opportunity to direct the movie.

The movie being good is just the cherry on a heartwarming cake.

I had to look this up and yeah I'm agreed with Bobby on that.

It's one of the worst theatrically-released animated films of the 80s. And not just in terms of storytelling (which is fairly awful) but in animation. It's fucking ugly way more often than not, on top of being mildly incoherent at most times.

It's only real effective sequence is the opening, in which the filmmakers take a shotgun to your toybox, which was more or less unprecedented at the time. That's the only real reason I've found for the film to have maintained any sort of cultural impact: The emotional effect on some boys at having their favorite toys being murdered "for real" onscreen really fucked them up. That speaks to the film's inability to work as a film as well - the only emotional heft it carries depends on you, as a viewer, having literally spent hours with the characters beforehand, making up your own stories with them on your bedroom carpet.

but it's a pretty shit-ass movie, all things considered.

Good reviews thus far and Stuckmann´s review, who i agree with most of the time, made me just buy my ticket.

I was going to watch the movie anyway, but now i want to see it rather soon.

It's nice to see a passion project come to fruition this way, especially in the form of an adaptation with very particular needs. Hopefully audiences embrace the movie and make it profitable. I'd love to see more quirky Marvel movies that push the envelope.

Could be a good sign. When I think of Deadpool I mostly think of character driven antics, not an Avengers-style epic blowout.

Nope, i think small scale is a big plus. What made the wolverine work, was that it wasn't about saving the world for once, but a personal threat.

Chris Structmann's review, he gave it a A+. Only movie he gave a A+ to last year was Mad Max Fury Road...Sounds good!

No, they shouldn't, I just made that post because I saw people getting excited because this guy gave it the same score as Mad Max! and this film is not on the same level in any way.

I'm seeing this next week with friends who are major fans, but I didn't laugh once from the trailer. I thought Iron Man was funny, but the delivery just didn't do it for me here. Maybe you have to be really into the comic book to fully appreciate the way he delivers the one liners?

Most of the biggest laughs were for references to the Marvel movies or the comics. It's definitely a movie for fans.
Iron Man is funnier. Deadpool doesn't have much wit.

I think most people are aware that movie reviews aren't about placing each movie in a hierarchy of all movies ever. The way I interpreted the score was that Deadpool does its own thing very well.
