I loooooooved Fury Road, but just because a movie has a multitude of adoring critics and almost universal audience approval doesn't mean it's good.

A few random shitty movies that won Best Picture:

Titanic
Shakespeare in Love
Crash
Chicago

Winning Best Picture does not mean winning over a multitude of adoring critics and almost universal audience approval. Particularly since critics and audiences have zero say in picking the Best Picture!

"Look at me i'm so adult because i don't like funny things"

How can I take people like these seriously, they seem so obnoxiously cartonish
He's the same person who criticizes the DCU because it's all grim and doom. it's not a Marvel movie so it's not good enough for his superior intellect, as simple as that.

As much as I regularly disagree with Faraci, his views are currently aligned with my expectations for the film based on it's marketing (no matter how clever the marketing team is).

Now, whether I'm actually going to enjoy that sort of stuff when my butt is on the theater seat is something I've yet to see.

Devin Faraci thinks in AoU the characters have very deep character arcs.

Let that sink in.

Obviously he likes it, but for reasons we couldn't understand, because we're dumb you know.
I suspect that the stuff I found funny will be very different from what other people found funny.
He's so smart. Oh so smart. Like when he said he was a lone defender of the Star Wars original Trilogy merits. Clearly the Roger Ebert of our time.

Yes, he makes me mad, condescension is the thing I despise the most.

You'd have to be pretty damn stupid to think R18 and family fun go together. The vast majority probably don't even know Disney owns Marvel either

I dunno, those stories always pop up about parents buying their kids GTA and becoming upset when they didn't realize it was so violent. Though I think parents are more educated about the MPAA's ratings than ESRB's.

Nah, they're really understandable. For example, the very next sentence following the one you quoted.

It’s scattershot, so there’s always someone in the theater laughing at something. I admire that, even if it took me a few minutes to adjust to the pace of attempted witticisms.

And then there's the final paragraph of the review, which is him restating the thesis of his entire piece:

I’ll give the movie a fresh (now this review is getting as meta as the movie) because it’s being so true to itself. Sure, it’s about as shocking as a middle schooler giving his teacher the finger, but there’s something adorable about that kind of juvenile nonsense. And while Deadpool’s flood of bad language and violence makes it too ‘adult’ for kids, it’s nice to see a comic book movie that embraces SOMETHING juvenile.

he's fingering people's insecurities (including his own) is all. How you react to that diddling is entirely up to you.

You blurted out "Fartashit" like it was a safe word.

Y'all mad about a few negative opinions and here I am still amazed that its RT score is not only over 70% but right now sitting at 100% with 20+ reviews which is a good indication for the next week

Well he's not a very good critic if he thinks that everything about a movie is dumb, but it's good because it's juvenile. He's a mess. I won't discuss anything else about him really, not worth my finger movements.
Even the positive reviews call it a movie chock full of adolescent humor. If that's your thing, great, I hope you enjoy it. But as someone who found the trailer obnoxiously unfunny, none of the reviews have changed my mind. It sounds like it's just "that, but more."

And before I get attacked, I promise I'm not being condescending. I like that there's something out there for everyone. I was just hoping this would be something a little different.
That's cool, I don't like it either. It's "the holier than thou filthy peasant" attitude that drives me mad. Simply disliking a thing is normal and respectable.

I mean, it's Deadpool though.

It's like hoping a Jane Austen adaption wouldn't be a period romance.

This is why I sometimes love seeing movies early.

Just get to sit back and watch the insanity unfold. Already know how I feel about it.

Deadpool at 100% on RottenTomatoes.

That Chris Stuckmann review called the humor 'crude' way too many times for me to stop worrying that the humor sucks like in the trailers.

I've never really read Deadpool, but a superhero movie that breaks the 4th wall and makes fun of the genre tropes in a witty way could have been really funny and interesting. I can even handle adolescent humor if it's handled in a clever way.

"You look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado" is just not my style of comedy.

That's what I was expecting based on the marketing and trailers. It's not exactly trying to hide it's juvenile humor.

So I wonder if they're making a distinction between Fox's and Disney's movies, or even WB.

I could see a potential backlash from family friendly groups if they confuse this with a Disney movie. Would make a funny news story.

that might be what I'm most looking forward to. The backlash from parent groups. They're the worst, but also supply the most laughs.

"Critics Consensus: Fast, funny, and gleefully profane, the fourth-wall-busting Deadpool subverts superhero film formula with wildly entertaining -- and decidedly non-family-friendly -- results."

Sold! This will be a late birthday present for me.=p

Of course this won't be a great movie by any stretch of the imagination. It'll be hilarious rarely, chuckle-worthy mostly, and have over the top action.

But it's still very unique, obviously. Can't wait to watch!

Kind of embarrassing that people are being mocked for being "too smart" to care about Deadpool. Like anything above 4th wall and poop jokes is the ultimate pretension.

I read the leaked script a long time ago and I very much enjoyed what I read and thought it would make a great film. Everything I've read so far about the movie says it'll end up very close to that original script, with a few characters changed (one wasn't in the script at all, another was swapped out for a different character for obvious budget reasons) and a change of location (for the better, in my opinion). Give or take a few of the more dated references (which I will not spoil, but they're cracks about a celebrity who isn't relevant anymore) and unless something has radically changed (and I don't see it happening based on the trailers / reviews / etc.), this isn't "Ayy lmao: The Movie." There aren't any memes or rage faces or reddit-type humor in the script so I don't think it's gonna happen here.

Let me put it this way; if they stuck to the script, you chuckled at the Jackson Pollock line in Guardians of the Galaxy and think Kill Bill's level of gore (blood geysers and ultra-violent deaths to the point of absurdist humor) was funny, you're probably fine with where this movie is going (though obviously there's more filthy humor and nudity).

I mean it's embarrassing both ways, like who cares if people enjoy shit like this from time to time. So many condescending tones in those posts. I enjoy Deadpool doesn't mean I don't enjoy other more "sophisticated" things.

I think that reviewer is just trying a little too hard to mock demographics; anyone who goes out of there way to single out "white males" in a movie review is trying too hard IMO. (especially since he appears to be white, and male lol)

I don't find the review offensive or anything; I am not a Deadpool fan and I don't post on Reddit or wear cargo shorts, but I think that reviewer is trying too hard to make fun of people that might like the same movie he liked. It doesn't come across as him trying to act smart; more like he's trying to distance himelf from some people who might also like the movie.

You don't have to be stupid to enjoy low-brow humor. Even the smartest of people can laugh at a good fart every once in a while.

I can see where condescension can be irritating, but calling out someone for being condescending doesn't really discredit what they're saying. I agree that stupid movies can be enjoyable and even excellent, but if you just shut down conversion at "you're pretentious!", then there's no dialogue regarding why Deadpool low brow humor is more worthwhile than Adam Sandler low brow humor (just for example).

Have you read Devin Faraci's review in its entirety? Also, have you seen DEADPOOL?

It seems like you WANT to enjoy DEADPOOL and feel like Faraci's review is an affront, or at least the parts that have been quoted in this thread.

Faraci gave DEADPOOL a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. He enjoyed the movie, even if its humor wasn't his speed. You can take umbrage with it, but he's seen the film. You haven't as of now.
