i have thoughts which involve murdering or severely maiming men who are able to get (attractive) women to want to be with them for casual physical intimacy (sex, making out, heavy petting, etc.). certain things can trigger these thoughts such as reading a guy's claims about how good he is with women, or observing in real life a guy trying to pick up a woman, or seeing a guy with a woman or interacting with a woman in a non-business related manner. etc., etc., etc...

this has been going on for about a year and a half.

can anyone relate?

how did you get over it?

i don't like feeling this way. i'm wondering if it's possible to get over it *without* professional counseling.

No
But today while driving to work I came up with a wonderful idea.

You could dress babies in furry costumes and put them in the middle of the road.

yeah.
I dont get it either.

Talk about a first post...sheesh.

With all due respect, you're thinking about KILLING someone, and you think there is something short of professional help which is warranted?

Go to your physician and get a referral TODAY to talk to a mental health professional. It's not normal, it's not insignificant, and it's not going to go away unless you seek treatment.

We'll get Olimario to hook you up with a zesty new wardrobe and you'll have no need for those pesky resentments and murderous thoughts.

Quit being a pussy and blaming others for your failure in attracting women. Instead of looking in hatred, pay attention to how these guys handle themselves, or even make friends with them and learn the tricks of the trade. Don't waste another year and a half.

do you have sex with your pillow? if not, you should

It's all in your head, dude. Want to get over it? GET THE FUCK OVER IT.

It's that easy, I'm not kidding. Also, I suppose you can do other things to take your mind off it. Start working out, interact with more people, new friends, positive thinking.

Actually, I think all you need is some love. Sounds to me you lack a whole lot of self esteem, and that's not good. Just get over it and live an eventful life.

*hugs*

Ah geez, the old 'get over it' phrase again. Anyone else find that phrase offensive? Some people's problems cannot be reduced so simply. I think it's obvious that one should 'get over' any and all of their problems in life, but simply saying that doesn't really do any good, does it? So no, sometimes it's not always 'that easy'. But that's just my opinion...

I dont think its a good idea to tell him that Im surrounded by silicon tits...jk

Its a lack of confidence. Just feel more confident about yourself. try working out, playing sports, going out more. All of that will help your self confidence.

If he truly feels that way then I respect him for taking the first step towards help by posting thread... seriously things like this just don't go away seek help

Actually Ted, it is that easy. It's clear that this guy is suffering from lack of self esteem, he should just feel better about himself and stop thinking these crazy thoughts. I assure you, it's not hard.

Oh and,

I dunno if "respect" is the right word. I mean, would you respect someone who posted a thread titled "My hair is literally on fire and the smoke smells funny -- HELP ME GAF!" How about putting some water on it and going to the hospital? I respect common sense which tells you when a problem is way out of your league to solve.

Having a serious thought about killing someone, in ANY non-survival context, should be a no-brainer sign that you need professional help.

Yes Cubsfan, the way to deal with a deranged person is to GIVE THEM THE CONDENSED VERSION OF YOUR DATING TIPS! :lol :)

Assuming this person is serious about what he claims (which I'm skeptical of for obvious reasons), the only relevant, proper, and useful response in this thread has been -jinx-'s. Sociopathy-- which his behavior meets several of the criteria for-- and/or murderous impulses are not things that one just "GETS THE FUCK OVER". I'm not naming names, though... ;) :P

well yeah respect is a little far :)

Shoot if you have $5,000 invest in a realdoll

definately the most sensible reply. You need professional help, no question.

that was quick. :) hey loki, havent seen you in a while.
while i cant relate to wanting to pulla ghengis khan on every guy i see with a girl (yipes) i can relate to being angry at lots things at one point or another in my life.
if you are strong in mind and spirit (i'm thinking no) then talking to someone or a proffesional is usually the best thing to do. it's helped me to cope with things. go out and meet new people, take up a hobby.

You are assuming all people's minds function like your own. Compounded issues of self-esteem, depression, whatever aren't things toggled on and off like a switch. (Although I'm sure those who are bipolar feel their mind 'switches' quite abit.)

Who's to say he hasn't tried to feel better about his self? Completing major personal changes simply aren't as simple as you're trying to make them. Hell, overcoming life's great obstacles would lose all meaning if it were so effortless.

Yeah, but there's a huge difference between being angry/frustrated and legitimately entertaining homicidal thoughts. If he's lucid enough to relate to us the fact that he's struggling with this, then I'd tend to take him at his word when he says that it's a bit beyond generic "anger". In other words, I don't think a hobby would help in this instance. ;) :P

Again, if his claims are true, seeking professional help is the only sensible (and ultimately the only productive) recourse. :)

Good to see you too, Carlos. :) I haven't exactly been scarce, though... :D

Get you self into a fist fight with these guys, and you will be over it. Best damn cure for male psycological illnesses.

Dude, seriously. Don't. It is easy and you know it. You just have to think positive. Lack of self esteem always makes your mind wander, it can be either a good experience or a bad experience, or both! But in all seriousness, when it comes down to it, it's just a matter of self esteem in this case.

Shawn, I suggest that you start thinking that this is life and you have absolutely nothing to lose. Just interact with more people, be happy. I assure you, your weird ass thoughts will eventually disappear.

Um, as a schiso depressive, i feel i must say something. IT IS NOT EASY TO THINK POSITIVE! If you think negatively for a long time, it becomes a habit that is very hard to get rid of, and if you don't have any self discipline at all like me, then you are completely fucked.

With all due respect, unless you have a degree in psychiatry, I strongly suggest you stop advocating this kind of bullshit advice.

No offense, but you really can't be this dense...

Look, self-esteem is important in life, and its effects on our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us are well-documented. Trying to distill everything down to "self-esteem" smacks of simplistic thinking, however-- not to mention that it's factually inaccurate. Pick up a psychology book sometime. Please desist from posting further nonsense in a (potentially-- I'm still skeptical) serious topic. :)

EDIT:

With all due respect, unless you have a degree in psychiatry, I strongly suggest you stop advocating this kind of bullshit advice.

Yeah, what he said. :P

Shawn came here to here people's thoughts about his problem. I'm only telling him what I feel about it all, if you don't agree, tell him your point of view. I mean, after all, this is a forum.

It's all good though, sorry if I offended anyone, at least I tried helping someone instead of making not so funny remarks.

Easy? My opinion of myself fluctuates a great deal, just as it does with anyone. If it were 'easy', we'd all be wearing grins on our face 24/7. Our emotions, confidence, etc are not t-shirts, to be changed according to our whim - they are at the mercy of innumerable factors in this world, several of which are beyond our control. Just because you WANT to think positive doesn't mean you're automatically capable of doing such. Certainly you have to take actions towards such, but I've never considered them to be easy and I think it would lessen the significance of happiness if they were...

Very true. But Shawn's problem will go away with some self esteem. I never said emotions were easy to control, plus I'm only typing all this because I'm bored.

Lighten up dodes!!

The problem is that your advice is not helpful.

If a friend of yours came to you and said that he thought he had a drinking problem, would you tell him that he was a pussy for not being able to handle his liquor and drag him out to a bar to show him how it was SUPPOSED to be done?

There are certain kinds of situations which are WAY beyond the "ask your friends for advice" category, and -- if serious -- Shawn's situation is one of them.

No need to apologize-- as long as you come away with the knowledge that "self-esteem" doesn't determine everything in life, and the humility to defer to the opinions of those more knowledgeable than you. :) The latter, in particular, is something we could all stand to exhibit more of, myself included. :P

EDIT:

Very true. But Shawn's problem will go away with some self esteem

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! And here I thought we were making progress. :D

Bah!

lol, even if I give out what you guys call "the wrong advice" to someone. It'll still help him, after every post Shawn reads in this thread he will think about his problem and how he would be able to solve it all.

I'm sure he'll solve it eventually, OR end up killing someone.

We will just have to see what happens. My bet is that he doesn't end up killing anyone, takes alot of brain activity to actually kill a person.

A person would have to be crazy to do that. :lol

The best way to deal with your homicidal thoughts is to carry them out in reality. Once you go through with it, you'll soon be over this minor problem in your life and be able to move on.

That was fucking horrible advice. I have good self-esteem, lots of friends, a good future ahead of me, and consider myself to be a popular well-liked guy among people I knew. But despite all those things, I still suffered from chronic depression. Your advice to "be happy" is the same bullshit advice I got from friends who also suggested to "just get over it." Sorry pal, it's not that easy and I'm glad I went to see someone. And this doesn't mean you have to see a psychiatrist or take medication. See a psychologist or see a therapist if you feel you can't talk to anyone. Talking to a professional who doesn't have any ties to your life can do wonders.

edit: And how does my situation relate to his? Well I also had similar thoughts but they were more about hurting myself than others.

this guy even posted again? Joke post.

Besides it's normal to want to kill the guys scoring the hot chicks. Until you get to be one of those guys.

Shrinks should just tell their clients to post on GAF and take the advice of the people here. The world would be a better place.
