Dear Criterion - Burnout Paradise, my beef.

I rented it, got my B license then sent it back for the next title in my Q. They would have had me with a sale at day one with a retry and crash option.

Again, to each and every person defending this game... would you still have bought the game if it had a retry option?
See at least you rented it.. you didn't like it so you win you only lost 5 bucks. And I know you at least enjoyed it right? But some of these guys didn't even do that.

Some of you guys need to buy the game.. then bitch about it. You can't bitch about something you don't own :/ I for one would have been pissed if all they did was make Burnout Revenge with HD graphics. They took a chance and tried something new.. that's how you innovate.. you take chances. And all you really need to know is the general direction of where your going. The game tells you turn right and left when you need to.. you don't really have to look at the map at all while racing.

Is anyone really asking for Burnout Revenge with HD graphics? I think the free roaming stuff is great and is a fun direction to take racing games in. However, there is really no reason for them not to include a retry option. Now I know that during most of the game there will be another challenge you can pick up near the end of your last challenge, but there have to be times when this isn't the case.

The place I found this most annoying was when I finished a race out in the mountains where there really aren't that many intersections to start a new event at. Admittedly, I haven't finished the game, but I imagine there has to be some point at the end where there will only be a few challenges left you can possibly do, thereby forcing you to drive back across the city to retry the race.

Even if there was a retry option you would still have to drive to every new challenge you wanted to try, so you would still have plenty of opportunities to learn the city.

First I would like to say I really like your demo, I like it so much that I play it weekly just to blow off some steam and I love the driving and crazy voodoo stuff you have created.
I'm just going out on a limb here, but ...

If you play the demo weekly, and continue to do so, there's a damn good chance you actually like the game. Rhetoric and your ideal design aside, I don't follow the logic of not buying a game you obviously enjoy just to make some point that it's not designed just as you would like it to be.

If the lack of retry was actually preventing you from enjoying the game, why still play the demo?

My main problem is. the races don't seem like actual races. It's more stare at your map and hope you don't miss a turn.

:lol
But kinda..
It's more similar to street racing.no rules, just arrive at the finish line first....no matter how, or from where..
Heck, I won my first race in the game..by arriving to the end, in the opposite direction.... :D ..but it was that I found a shorcut and just made it there first..

Back to the OP, I also wasn't a big fan of the demo (but mostly because I thought the feeling of the previous games was lost)...but recently (2 days ago) I just got this game..and darn, it's just amazing..

So, what if you fail a race....when you lose, you just continue playing and you could just pick any other race you see around..or event..or anything..heck, in most cases..near the finish line, there's already another event..just waiting..so if you lose, you just start a new/different one.....heck, just click the D-pad twice to the right..and you're already online playing with random people..

Well personally..I LOVE PARADISE! It rocks and to me is one of the best of the series. The no retry stuff is not bothersome to me what so ever, play the living daylights out of my copy all the time and i got it on day one. Its also well worth the price brand new but even better buying it used is a killer deal now days.

How can some still pass this game up over the retry thing is beyond me..but those picky people are the ones that always seem to lose out on some great great videogames. To each is own.. there are tons of things i dont care for with games i buy and play all the time but it dont stop me for enjoying them for what the are STILL worth....

And i also praise Criterion for the modes they keep giving out free to the people that bought the game.. thats very cool of them.

Just remember people.. the MAJORITY of people liked the game then not liked it..
