#DEFLATEGATE: Goodell never had any balls

That's what makes it even worse. They didn't need to cheat at all. It shows their true character.

This is Pro football. You think these players aren't pumped up on something?

It's like baseball in the steroid era. No one wants to know. Feels better that way.

There's no integrity in the NFL.

This is probably a really stupid question and I'm not trying to defend their actions but would the constant squeezing of a ball and the tackling of a player holding the ball have any effect on this? Most likely not but I'm curious.

Balls use the same concept as the valves on your wheels. It's a one way valve that let's air in but not out. Theoretically, unless you've got a needle in the valve, it shouldn't be possible for it to lose air. They're never perfect, though, especially as they get older. There's usually going to be a very slow leak, but you're going to lose noticeable pressure over weeks to months, not hours. Same concept applies to what happens during a game. None of it should cause a significant amount of lost air.

I thought as much. I have to refill my soccer ball about once every couple weeks due to the usage but I'm assuming kicking is different than what occurs during a football game. Not to mention that there are specialized kicking balls just for this reason.

The fact is if Aaron Rodgers knows half the league like underinflated balls, then it is a good bet that a lot of balls on game day are not exactly in line with spec.

There is a range on the legal levels. How do you know that these QBs who like a less inflated ball don't just use a ball that is near the minimum legal inflation level but within the limits? Seems like an unsupported logical leap to assume that they are using balls that are outside of the allowed limits.

I'm in tears at all the defensive FB posts from my friends (I live in Boston). Just own it for once. Your team cheats. Lots of teams cheat. Some more ridiculously than others.

The self-righteousness makes it really hard to root for them, but I cannot abide another Seahawks victory.
Well the seahawks are going to beat the Patriots and I'm not a seahawks fan. I have no doubt about that. It doesn't matter that the Patriots cheat constantly or not but I look forward to the majority of Patriots fans crying.

If they're ashamed over something so minor as this, I don't think the Patriots were ever "their own team" to begin with. It's just someone being over dramatic on the internet.

Not only are you saying cheating is fine you're saying that objecting to cheating is worse than cheating.

This whole thing is crazy to me.

If it were one pats fan, ok, but it's dozens of people in this thread alone. This is some Penn state level shit.

I'm literally embarrassed to be a football fan right now.

Disgusting lack of sportsmanship or even the basic concept of it.

This is aimbot mentality writ large.

Really going to go there man? I had no idea raping young boys was anywhere near the same level as deflating footballs. But then again we are talking about the AFC championship game...

Even if you are on the lowest range, the ball could be below that by game time. QBs obviously talk about this stuff or Rodgers is just pretending he talks to other QBs. Given what we have heard from Johnson, Rodgers, and Brady on this matter, balls are big deal with QBs and I don't think that this past Sunday is the first instance of this happening and given this old report about Brad Johnson, it is something no one really gives a shit about.

I don't support cheating in any way. People who break the rules deserve to be punished. If this was my team I'd care a lot

The comparison is about the mentality not the severity of the crime and I stand by that.

But cheating is cool right? And complaining about cheating is lame?

So you are comparing child rape to a few deflated balls? Lmao

This post is disgusting. It is easily the worst post on this thread and that is saying something.

The mentality is mainly derived from being insulted and labeled as cheaters for almost a decade no matter what happens during the course of the season. People get tired of hearing the same shit over and over. There absolutely is some merit in it only being a huge thing because it's the Patriots. Everyone knows it's wrong IF proven to be intentional. The cheating, however, is not why the reaction is what it is.

New York radio hosts are saying this is blown out of proportion. New York. That says it all to me.

Of course this is blown out of proportion, welcome to 2015. I bet a lot of these outraged people cant even name 5 players on "their" team.

So.

whodunit?

of course it is. But haters need something to feed on and it's a slow sports news day. Also, Pats have plenty of history with skirting the rulebook.

Is there any effect on air temperature, air pressure, humidity, etc. when tens of thousands of Pats fans in a concentrated area are simultaneously engaged in the act of grasping at straws?
I'm not familiar with the physics involved to state one way or the other ... but has anyone actually vetted that info?

Or are we just assuming it's wrong 'cause it's the Pats?

Umm just to be clear... people saying under inflated balls might not have been done intentionally is as bad as supporting child molestation?

Bills conference is going to be epic. So much lip smacking will be heard.

Whatever they do to the pats, they better first set the precident by penalizing green bay. Rogers has already admitted to purposely cheating.

I care allot about us winning another super bowl, I just talk to the haters to pass time and its entertaining. Could really give two shits about how a hater feels. I like talking football and hearing other peoples points of views but it won't make a break me that they feel stongly about something.

Do you think there isn't anyone on your team that isn't using PEDs? I'm not saying getting caught; I'm saying to you truly think your team is 100% clean of PEDs?

The same with this instance. Do you really think every ball out there is within the properly inflated range? That this is the first time it has ever been out of acceptable range?

Umm just to be clear... people saying under inflated balls might not have been done intentionally is as bad as supporting child molestation?

No, just to be clear, I'm comparing cognitive dissonance in sports team fans not severity of crime and I am going to retype this every time it comes up.

I'm comparing cognitive dissonance in sports team fans and you're deliberately ignoring that to draw a comparison between severity of crimes.

People need to stop down playing every shitty thing their team does, regardless of the thing. Just admit your team is cheating, has cheated, is staffed by cheaters, is manned with cheaters, and will most likely cheat again in the near term so we can all move along.

No, just to be clear, I'm comparing cognitive dissonance in sports team fans not severity of crime and I am going to retype this every time it comes up.

It was a terrible analogy and not appropriate, it happens. Just be prepared to have it quoted a lot, it's going to get quoted a lot.

Yes there is some cognitive dissonance, but a lot of Pats fans are also tired of the Pats being called cheaters constantly even though a lot of people don't even know what "Spygate" was about, illegal sideline recording, not about signal stealing. Just the location of the recording.

Impossible to say but if they are I don't want them on the team no matter how good they are.

In regards to the balls, no I don't think that but that doesn't make it acceptable.

That post must have flown over your head then.

He's saying that people acting super defensive are acting tone deaf to the reality of their team's misbehavior, just because they care about the team above all other things. It is okay to express disappointment in your idols. They aren't actual Gods.

Still very wrong to use to as a analogy. I get what he meant, but he could have used something else.

Right, I'm not saying it makes it acceptable. Rules aren't guidelines. But, I just think when it comes to integrity, I can't see how anyone can support the NFL, period. From the top, to the bottom.

I watch it because it is entertaining, and my moral compass for "entertainment" only kicks in when children are being exploited, or cock fighting is involved. Plus, in 15-20 years, maybe less, football won't be around in the same way it is now. I might as well enjoy it, right?

The NFL still hasn't proven anything yet. Many of us would call them cheaters if they are guilty of subterfuge, but as of this moment, the nfl has not said shit. There is no word on how the balls were underinflated. So by not denouncing my team right this instant, I am compared to a fan base who still defends an organization that protected a convicted child abuser? Ridiculous and his statement is a good example of the mindset that sports fans have that any infraction by another team is some massive injustice when actual league people and players who actually play the sport, couldn't give a shit about it.

The reality is that even if they are guilty, it's a minor infraction worth a $25K fine. People talking about how the Pats are cheaters seem to forget Aaron Rogers mentioning he's always trying to get over-inflated balls past the refs and they have to deflate them to meet regulations. Is Rogers a cheater too?

Right there has been no official statement from the NFL regarding the matter but the cesspool of haters who already convicted them have others diving in with there stones ready to crucify. Its guilty until proven guilty and nothing else with the haters.

Following the confirmation that the balls were underinflated, my first thought was "fuck, not again." Now I'm not sure what to think. I'll have to wait for all the details to come out to know how I feel about this.

The confirmation from ESPN's Chris Mortensen that he got from a colts insider?
