Also, is this the first time we have actually had confirmation of Un's actual age? He apparently told Rodman he was 28
Got to melt the ice before seeds can be planted, but that is waxing positive. Rodman does make a point, Un is only 28. He's been to school in Europe and I'm sure he gets a lot of pressure (guidance) from the North Korean generals and recognizes the State he's living in. The human rights violations are not something to dismiss but I think what Rodman is doing could create a thaw that might warm relations. Say Obama calls Un and they develop a process to reduce hostilities: this would be a good thing. Its up to the Administration to make that call (it easily acts to legitimize the regime and could backfire as useless propaganda material). You can't walk up to a Dictator -in his own house - and wave the Human Rights Watch Violations in his face, it will fall on deaf ears, blind eyes, and you'll be shown the exit. It would be pure comedy if there were not so many people suffering. Rodman seems burnt-out but was able to speak toward the culture Un is living in and how it has shaped him. The US might not be populating concentration camps but the prison industrial complex disenfranchises many citizens from the political process. This is not a one-to-one correspondence of both abusive policies and corruption.
I guess my position is that this trip is better than nothing, but time will tell. I would pay money to heard the CIA interview/debrief Rodman, he doesn't seem to be holding anything back. Rodman is unaware but honest.
Sorry if I offended you. Un is easier to type, I will correct. It's Jong-Un, not Un.
I agree but considering the War has been on pause for almost 60 years, I'd favor small incremental changes over a war of liberation. To paint the long-term with a broad brush, it would be his successor that opens relations, incremental changes. Again, I'm trying to cast a positive light because the alternative is horrific, and so is the status quo.NK cannot survive a thaw.
Dennis Rodman, through the powers of friendship, will be the one who finally establishes peace and frees the people of NK.
You'll all see!
Considering Foal Eagle is underway, at least someone is trying. Anyone have any better ideas or the means to make a difference?
Maybe not, but calling a man who has such terrible record on human rights a "great leader" sure isn't helping.
I think Obama should call. Have a conversation about basketball and nothing else. I don't see how it could make the situation worse.
I talk a lot of shit about NK, but I actually see what Dennis Rodman is saying. Man to man, despite what his government does, and what policies from the past still persist, he's a human being, just like us. And as we know, Rodman knows what it's like to be forced to pretend to praise a twisted psycho; to praise a man who has been told his whole life that he is the greatest on Earth and has had his image so well guarded by those around him that he has had no accountability for his inhumane actions, thanks in part to a biased media with an agenda that shields the public from his true nature, on and off the court.
It'll give fuel to his idiot critics. Dennis Rodman can do what Obama can't. What are you going to say about Rodman, really?
Why should he care? It's not like he can run again.

I think this is an important first step in repairing our relationships. Trust me: 30 for 30: Rodzilla Reunites Korea. If Kim Jong-Un can befriend a person from an enemy nation, maybe there is hope. Maybe it sets a good example for his people. I dunno, I'm an optimist. I think it's foolish to expect anything more Dennis Rodman.
It is one thing to say to a 3rd party hey I want peace and to talk.
To actually sign a peace treaty is a whole other ballgame. He would be in effect revoking his God card.
