Dennis Rodman is in North Korea

Got to melt the ice before seeds can be planted, but that is waxing positive. Rodman does make a point, Un is only 28. He's been to school in Europe and I'm sure he gets a lot of pressure (guidance) from the North Korean generals and recognizes the State he's living in. The human rights violations are not something to dismiss but I think what Rodman is doing could create a thaw that might warm relations. Say Obama calls Un and they develop a process to reduce hostilities: this would be a good thing. Its up to the Administration to make that call (it easily acts to legitimize the regime and could backfire as useless propaganda material). You can't walk up to a Dictator -in his own house - and wave the Human Rights Watch Violations in his face, it will fall on deaf ears, blind eyes, and you'll be shown the exit. It would be pure comedy if there were not so many people suffering. Rodman seems burnt-out but was able to speak toward the culture Un is living in and how it has shaped him. The US might not be populating concentration camps but the prison industrial complex disenfranchises many citizens from the political process. This is not a one-to-one correspondence of both abusive policies and corruption.

I guess my position is that this trip is better than nothing, but time will tell. I would pay money to heard the CIA interview/debrief Rodman, he doesn't seem to be holding anything back. Rodman is unaware but honest.

NK cannot survive a thaw.

Rodman was completely dismissing the human rights and continued to call the guy cool and a good guy. I understand what he was trying to get across that you have to start somewhere but still Rodman isn't the brightest

You can say someones friendly but you get disqualified for being a "good guy" when you have hard labor camps and starve your people.

The most interesting thing was the admission that Un doesn't want war. It's obvious all of this stuff is for show to prop up his regime but Rodman did seem to insinuate it was sincere (probably because he knows war=end of regime).

I would laugh if this is all a CIA plant though. Get someone they would never suspect to become friends with a crazy homicidal dictator

It's Jong-Un, not Un.
Sorry if I offended you. Un is easier to type, I will correct.
NK cannot survive a thaw.
I agree but considering the War has been on pause for almost 60 years, I'd favor small incremental changes over a war of liberation. To paint the long-term with a broad brush, it would be his successor that opens relations, incremental changes. Again, I'm trying to cast a positive light because the alternative is horrific, and so is the status quo.

Dennis Rodman, through the powers of friendship, will be the one who finally establishes peace and frees the people of NK.

You'll all see!

Maybe not, but calling a man who has such terrible record on human rights a "great leader" sure isn't helping.

I don't think it is hurting considering the standing of the Democratic People's Republic of [North] Korea (for Computer). I doubt Dennis Rodman's ignorance is being factored into your assessment and the statement he's "not helping," let alone Rodman's ability to influence peoples opinions' of Kim Jong-Un. What would help, an incident that [re-]starts [the] war? Tell me Vulcan-avatar, what would be the most logical course of action?

edit: I see it is not a Vulcan (witcher2)

I talk a lot of shit about NK, but I actually see what Dennis Rodman is saying. Man to man, despite what his government does, and what policies from the past still persist, he's a human being, just like us. And as we know, Rodman knows what it's like to be forced to pretend to praise a twisted psycho; to praise a man who has been told his whole life that he is the greatest on Earth and has had his image so well guarded by those around him that he has had no accountability for his inhumane actions, thanks in part to a biased media with an agenda that shields the public from his true nature, on and off the court.

I think this is an important first step in repairing our relationships. Trust me: 30 for 30: Rodzilla Reunites Korea. If Kim Jong-Un can befriend a person from an enemy nation, maybe there is hope. Maybe it sets a good example for his people. I dunno, I'm an optimist. I think it's foolish to expect anything more Dennis Rodman.

I think Obama should call. Have a conversation about basketball and nothing else. I don't see how it could make the situation worse.

It'll give fuel to his idiot critics. Dennis Rodman can do what Obama can't. What are you going to say about Rodman, really?

I really love this posts.

It is one thing to say to a 3rd party hey I want peace and to talk.

To actually sign a peace treaty is a whole other ballgame. He would be in effect revoking his God card.

I'm not so sure he feels so secure in his position anymore. Does he feel like he's in charge *Bane Hand on the shoulder*? If I recall correctly, his father actually didn't have any power in the government. He only ever spoke once in public, and it was one sentence. Instead, military leadership took control of the country when Kim Il Sung died, reportedly. The North Korean people credit Kim Jong-Il with the creation of a representative government with a name like "The People's Great Council" or something ridiculous like that. In reality, he didn't create it, but rather never had a choice in the matter, reportedly. (reportedly, as who the Hell knows what's what in that place)

If things get rough, I think they wouldn't hesitate to kill Kim Jong-Un like they would his father or especially his Grandfather.

The media is so jealous that Rodman went over there and got two days with the leader of North Korea. They'd all kill for that access
