Despite How Feasible it is For You, Which Dog Breed Would You Like?

People posting Shibas.... I'd be careful. My GF has one and they have a ton of energy and don't really like people much. It's like a super energetic cat.

My choice is a pit bull. I always liked how they look, but the fact that they've been selectively breed by alot of assholes makes me very weary of getting one from a shelter.

Old english shepards are beautifyl, but I wouldn't want to deal with that much brushing.

I have a Shiba and can attest to this. Hes cray cray and doesnt like people for the first 5-6 meetings then he warms up.

Oh, also. I'm somewhat against buying (I don't even like the word) a dog while there are so many in shelters or abandoned out there, so to be honest that rules out most expensive or exotic breeds. It's unfortunate because I'd really like one, but I wouldn't feel good knowing that I paid when I could have adopted and use that money to buy toys/food for a little guy or girl.

I love medium/large, highly active breeds but I live in a small apartment with two cats and work 7-5 Mondays through Fridays. There is no way I could take proper care of a Saint Bernard or a Collie or a Rottweiler (not to mention that my poor cats would freak out). :(

There are some small breeds that I like as well (Jack Russell, Corgi) but they're still somewhat active so it would be a shame to have them locked up five days a week.

I'm hoping I can move to a house or a cabin in the city's outskirts (hopefully in a few years, we're saving up for that!) so we can adopt.

We've also talked about adopting a Retriever (since it's a very gentle, noble breed and we figure it'll minimize potential issues with the cats) but still, it would not be fair with the little guy (or girl) to stay locked up in an apartment five days a week.

lol. nice.

get a dog that's a few years old from the shelter. they'd love to be in a loving home and sleep around all day.

Poodles and golden retrievers are both so awesome.

My friend has a Labradoodle and he is the sweetest dog! He's such a goofball.

I've always wanted a Great Dane. Scooby doo, the Ugly Dachshund and other books and movies have portrayed them as so lovable that it would be great to have one.

But they live such short lives and need lots of space. So we'll see if it ever happens.

My family's dog is a border collie. Kindest dog I've ever met...though she is a tad neurotic.

I would love a corgi, they seem very fun.

I could never get a dog from a breed with a life expectancy of fewer than 10 years. Having to deal with the heartbreak of losing a dog every 6-7 years would be devastating.

It's unfortunate because almost all of the giant breeds are such sweet, good-natured dogs.

There's some farm where the owner was able to breed wolves, and he actually had some good success in terms of behavioral traits (friendliness, reliability...as in not going to snap in a second) a couple generations in. He then crossbred with German Shepherds. He has "Shepherd Wolf" dogs that you can get that have varying % wolf vs shepherd. I've seen this mix at least once before and the dog looked really cool, but wolf hybrids are not known for being safe to keep as pets. I think the ones I mentioned would probably be fine. Due to the risks involved, my state (and others) have outright banned wolf or wolf/dog hybrid ownership.

From your description, I believe You're talking about the Saarloos wolfdog, which is the breed I would really like to get. From what I've read, they're aren't aggressive at all, and are in fact rather cowardly.
There's a very similar breed called the tsecho-slovakian wolfdog that's a little smaller, but more aggressive than them.

The really sad thing is that once they're over four years old, no one wants to adopt the poor beasties.

I kind of want to adopt them out of love and to give them a few good golden years.

Well, I guess it's not feasible to have my old little guy back, right? :(

He was maltese + poodle mix and I doubt I'll ever have a dog as awesome as him.

I adopt older dogs, I got my Maltese when he was 8 (he's 11 now) and my jack Russell when she was 10 (12 now). They have some weird habits that I can't train them out of due to their age, but I love them both to bits.

Bernese mountain dog, but they have a shorter life span =(

As do a lot of the larger breeds I like. I wanted a Lab or Golden, but we ended up just getting a rescue.

Amstaff/Boxer/Lab mix according to the "DNA tests". He's full Amstaff on one side so that is probably spot on, the other side is boxer for sure, and most likely mixed with Lab.

If given a choice I would want a Lab, but I'm pretty allergic to dogs so I could never have one of my own. I enjoy the small amounts of time I get to play with my sisters dog and stuff like that...

Bouvier Des Floundres.

Too expensive to get one right now but some day I will. Grew up with them and then my family just stopped buying them. Bummed me out.

I always wanted a German Shepherd. My girlfriend and I got one a few years ago. He's a handful, but we knew that going in.

The next dog we're getting is a Corgi for sure. My favorite breed.

My last dog was a Corgi and he was the best dog I've ever met.

This was in the U.S., but yeah, I suppose it would be pretty similar. Despite being a breed, they would still be banned here, probably. I guess it would depend on how many generations down the dog was.

My wife wants a great dane, and I'm not totally opposed to it. I just know that I'll be the one cleaning up after it. We'll probably get one in a couple of years after we move into a new house.

Siberian Husky.

I love anything that looks like a wolf. Hell, if I knew for a fact that I won't be eaten, I'd get an actual wolf.

Edit: Just saw something called an Alaskan Husky. Looks even more like a wolf. <3

I'll always have my mutts. Mutts da best. BUT, if I could have any (other) dog breed in the world, it would have to be a Bernese Mountain Dog. Totally not feasible for Georgia in the summer... but they're just so dang awesome lookin'.

But I have allergies to long hair... so I'd go with the short hair version... Greater Swiss Mountain Dog...

Cockapoo like my family's dog Benji, who died last year. But he was such a sweet dog, it would be hard to replace him.

I don't have a dog right now, even though I love them, because I have allergies. But I've been on allergy shots for a couple of years now. Might be able to get one in another two or three years if my wife and I agree to it.

Newfoundland. At the moment I'm not willing to put in the time or effort that is needed to care for a dog. I'm also hesitant to get a breed with a relative short life span.
I had one of these growing up in Alabama. Not the best environment for it with how hot it got in the summers (we trimmed it pretty constantly), but that dog was fucking wonderful. I was a little kid at the time and it was practically a big brother for me growing up. Incredibly loving and basically the definition of a gentle giant.

it's seriously like picking up after a horse

dachshund.

biggest gap of pride vs. actual patheticness.

generally, dogs with long faces that just make them look at you as if they felt guilty for something.

that or a Corgi.
Or a beagle.

just any dog that's not miniature horse sized.

edit:

just look at him, proudly strutting ... WHOS A PRETTY DOG YES YOU ARE YES YOU ARE!

You underestimate these little shits. I have seen them used as hunting dogs, and they will drag shit 3 times their sizes out of a burrow because they're nuts.

My grandma has one, most loyal dog I have ever seen.

I really like big dogs, especially Irish Wolfhounds, but after the experience we've had with the Jack Russell Terrier we rescued three years ago, I really can't imagine ever having a different breed. She's an absolute sweetheart with tons of personality, she's been a very welcome addition to our home.
Here's a crappy cellphone picture of her standing on top of the fence to our neighbors yard:
