Destiny 2: Bungie's Vision for the Sequel

What have been the impressions of the game so far? Does it address the struggles of the first game? I honestly haven't been following much of pre coverage this time around.

We have seen and know far too little to really say one way or another.

What we know it looks more the same with some improvements like story missions with more actual story telling and player agency.

Bungie had two options on the table; balance their game or eliminate as many things as they could from the game that could cause imbalance. Clearly they chose the latter and it's pathetic.

Some of the changes that they are making that could limit the sandbox are concerning, but calling their decision pathetic when you haven't seen how these changes play out in the final game is a bit much.

I'll be there Day 1 regardless because I do love the series, but they've illustrated very clearly what their design goals are right from the initial gameplay reveal event. Destiny 1 was already a simple game (especially the subclass perk trees) so to hear that they've chose to make the sandbox even more simplified and limited instead of expanding upon it is pathetic in my opinion. The streamlined things they've shown off don't need the context of the full game to be disappointing.

I suppose it depends what you want out of the game. It's primarily an action game, by design. Its RPG elements were always very simple. Making them simpler is leaning into the action elements rather than the RPG ones, and how positively or negatively that change is viewed will depend on individual taste.

This i agree with and it still has me a bit worried. What attracted me to Destiny to being with was some of the rpg/mmo elements brought over to a solid fps game. They were basic overall, but a step in the right direction. I just assumed with a sequel we would see character trees expanded even further and deeper perks and stuff tied to weapons/gear/character classes, etc... Instead, seems all of that has been simplified and characters wont be too different from one another. (I really hope to be proven wrong on this!)

I hope that the limited and simplified perk trees gives them an excuse to introduce significant game-play altering exotic armors.

Translation: I am an expert in game design, know better than the devs, and think they are pathetic slobs for what I perceive as catering to the majority of people that play the games they make. Also, I am an addict.

Huh. That's a pretty unhinged and quirky post, now isn't it!

Dear LORD haha.

I'd LOVE for some really badass exotics but since they're still stuck with pvp/pve being mixed i feel like that's not going to happen... Which is ridiculous. A game like this should allow some really crazy/fun exotic weapons and gear but pvp keeps holding them back i think... Pocket Infinity always comes to mind. Man i loved that weapon, then they go and nerf it because it was broken in pvp.

Easy solution to all of this too would be to just ban exotics in general from pvp... done!

You called it a simple game that was being made pathetic for simplifying it further. I can only deduce you're coming back to the game for other reasons. Also, he started it :) The namecalling, that is
I'm coming back to it because I find it fun despite its very noticeable flaws? How does appreciating something while being critical of it make me an "addict"?

I don't call devs, or their decisions, which I can't yet understand the full implications of, pathetic. That's crossing a line, so I crossed one back. I'll call out what I perceive as bad decisions, a team putting out less than what was promised, etc...but I won't call them pathetic on an online forum.

So you get to not only decide for everyone what "crossing a line" is but also get to be a hypocrite and do the exact same thing you're condemning? I called the paring back/streamlining of already simple gameplay systems pathetic (not them as developers), which is an opinion that I'm allowed to have. It's not meant to be a personal insult. You in turn call me an addict (out of spite from your own admittance) because there's no way someone could have fun playing Destiny and also have criticisms of the game at the same time!!11

I don't need the full game to be upset that subclass perk trees have been reduced to two simple options, among other things. The implications of some of these changes is immediately obvious and requires no further explanation. You'd think the fact that I'm openly saying I've preordered the game despite my grievances would be enough to illustrate I have an open mind.

Love the idea of locked loadouts. Hope it comes to the high tier PVP.

Love how they say they are making the end game more difficult.

Their vision seems good, hope its executed well. The game is shaping up to be more of what Destiny 1 should have been. Which isn't a bad thing.

Whatever man, I don't have time to debate semantics. You degraded their work without an attempt to understand why they did it. Of course, you're entitled to your shitty opinion, and I'm entitled to think it's BS.

Do you have to say "Duh" like a teenager?

I know know damn well how Destiny threads end up lol, trying to subtly move folks on from bickering.

hahahaha

Don't worry...we will have IGN's first impressions video to beetch about here in a few minutes.

It's not semantics. You got personally offended over me calling a decision pathetic and then lashed out like a child. If you had done the bold exactly as you typed in the first place then we wouldn't even be talking right now.

Glad that's over though.

I'm guessing you purposefully left out of your OP the additions they've made to the game (abilities) which make the sandbox richer. Convenient because it allows you to use what I consider a personal insult to target the devs for parring things back without any real consideration of why they parred things back in some areas to allow for more room in others.

Characters carry over. Gear does not.

To me my character IS a mix of a lot of things, and I don't really know how much, if any, is getting carried over.

Its not just my looks, which frankly I don't care that much about. Its the 5k grimoire score that I have achieved over years, and all those stats like 85000 kills with a handcannon or 844 deaths to Crota. Its that stupid fucking little Tiny Box of Raisins I've had in my inventory for years, doesn't do a damn thing, but hell if I will delete it. Its the Rank 86 I have with the crypto-arch Rahool, which took a lot of goddamn engrams to achieve. Its the 8 items I have sitting in my postmaster because my inventory is full and I am too lazy to delete anything but it feels good when I go to the postmaster and see this cache of items just waiting to be picked up someday, like 10 year old christmas gifts.

THAT trivial shit is my character, and all that will probably be gone when I play Destiny 2. Its not end of the world, but its kinda lame.

This is a thread for discussing opinions on destiny and the interview in question. He's entitled to his opinion without having to be called names or acting like it's somehow invalid because he isn't a developer.

I know they've already confirmed that these emblems won't be coming over to PC but I'm hoping down the road they allow us to get them by connecting our Bungie accounts to our Blizzard accounts. I'm eligible for almost every single one of those so it'd suck to not be able to use them.

It's a shitty critique not just because of the language he used but the limited scope of his evaluation.

Would not hold my breath.

I assume they treat the PC not only as a new platform, but also as a new customer base.

They probably don´t want people to have stuff that is unattainable for others on the new platform.

EDIT: Because we know it technically it would be possible.

The lore tied to exotic weapons sounds really cool. The best bits of story from the first involved the origins of certain weapons.

What are you talking about? Seriously? I don't like that already simplistic gameplay systems were streamlined even further and I called their decision to do so pathetic. That's an opinion that requires zero evaluation. Can you stop the whole "Mommy he saided the bad word i dont like :(" shtick and get over it? Everyone else has and we'd all like to move on.

And yet you keep responding without answering my contention that you really don't have any idea how the new systems will interact with this streamlined setup where "simplistic gameplay" systems ruin your ability to have fun to the point where you called it pathetic. It's not a shtick, and I'm sorry you can't understand why your comment illicited more than a passing reaction.

The thing is though you are saying it's pathetic and it's streamlined even further for the worst but I haven't seen that at all plus by not having played the game there's still a bunch of stuff with each character sub classes we haven't seen.

So I am in agreeance with the other poster that you calling them pathetic is a bit much when there is info we just haven't seen yet.

1. He said of what weve seen of the game so far, not the final product. Why people keep trying to conflate opinions on what weve seen to mean opinions on the final version of the game is beyond me.

2. calling the decision pathetic is not synonymous with calling bungie pathetic.

Like come on.

He is jumping to conclusions for little to no reason. So yes I can call him out and from what I was taking it he was calling bungie pathetic.

Either way he was overreacting with all the missing information on the sub classes.

No he isn't. He specifically said of whats been seen thats his opinion. On what hes seen of the game.

I need to head off but if anyone was personally offended by my words then I am sorry. I truly do not think that what I was saying was offensive but clearly that is not the case.

I'll be looking towards the launch of Destiny 2 with tempered expectations because of what they've shown off, and that was all I was ever trying to get across. I think we can put this to rest now, if that's okay with everyone else.

No one should have been offended over your opinion on a design decision. Theyre stretching what you said to mean something else entirely.

Bungie threads are getting weirder.
Ppl arguing for less subclasses
Ppl lashing out because someone had the audacity to say something negative about the info we have been givin up til now.
