"Paid for by the Concerned FPS Pwners of America"

"I'm Phil Spencer and I approve this message"

Haha. I still can't believe MS let this game slip. They obviously should have estimated that FPS Pwners would gravitate to a new and shiny shooter for the next gen. If COD sales start to dip as compared to last gen, then they backed the wrong horse. I think they would have been better off having procured Titanfall dlc exclusivity, rather than title exclusivity. Titanfall would have been a bigger hit and it would have benefitted Xbox in the long run.

I can't believe they did this. Hopefully Sony sues these fuckers back into irrelevance. Really deplorable behaviour from Phil and co. I expect a public apology before Tuesday when the effects of this act of disrespect and malice start to show.

Kudos. +100 points.

They may not have had a choice.

Activision already has a huge marketing deal with Microsoft concerning COD.

They need to be a bit balanced with their partnerships as it's not like Activision wants to piss Sony off too much.

Thread summary

MS made an add being salty about the exclusive Destiny marketing Sony has.
People then became salty about the ad in which MS was salty.
Some more people became salty that those people were becoming salty about the ad in which MS was salty.

Now we are all salty. Someone pass the chips -__-

I think my favorite part about this thread is the people talking about breach of contract and lawsuits. Are people on retainer or something? I'm also reading words like "disgraceful" and "disrespect," and the troubling part is I can't even tell if people are joking or if they are serious.

Are you serious? How could Bungie/Activision not like this? More free advertising for their game?

This ad is spreading all over twitter. Guess their plan worked.

Lmao you think Activision and Bungie care about this? If anything, it just gets more people who own an xbox to buy the game day one.

LOL you think they are going to be upset if their game (potentially) sells more (than it would otherwise) on another platform? they are probably thrilled that MS worked around the exclusivity deal. the only benefit that deal gives to Bungie/AV is straight up cash. Sony gets the strategic win for it.

They wouldn't be upset about the game selling more but the fact is there was a contract & Microsoft acknowledged the contract as they stepped on it.

This is pretty funny.

Also kind of extra funny because MS really pioneered the "exclusive marketing" stuff.

Fun fact. The old COD deal had a part where Activision couldnt sell COD avatars or custom themes on PSN.

Sony pulled "money hatting/exclusive marketing" waaay back when with Rayman for the original Playstation. The Atari Jaguar version of Rayman was ready for release and then Sony came in at the last second and made a sweet deal with Ubisoft and the Jaguar version was delayed by like six months and they made sure both the Saturn and Jaguar versions were released a week after the Playstation version. So this practice is nothing new and even goes back to the 8-bit days. At least money hatting is better for developers than when Nintendo had like 80%+ market share during the NES/Gameboy days and they would bully and threaten developers to not develop for Sega and Atari consoles and handhelds.

News outlets are reporting this also: http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/5/6109861/microsoft-mocks-sony-with-destiny-fragrance

Microsoft isn't allowed to run commercials for upcoming first-person shooter Destiny because Sony has an exclusive deal on the marketing rights, but that's not stopping the software maker from getting its message across. Microsoft has created a fake Destiny fragrance, and the company is surprisingly upfront about it. "Thanks for smelling that something was up," jokes the site that includes a mocked up bottle of the Destiny fragrance to bypass Sony's marketing exclusive. The real Destiny will make its way to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next Tuesday.

I chuckled. More at the nice gif but still. They know what a viral marketing campaign is and this is probably up there on who ever came up with its' idea list. Hell, I'd classify it as an advert since it's very clearly what it is, being MS made. Not even a big enough offense for a slap on the wrist or anything like that but it's pretty icky.

I'm assuming some of those are just joke posts (like Kade's), at least I hope so. The "desperate" comments are pretty lame tho. It's clever and worth a laugh. Twenty-four pages for a harmless joke, yikes.

E: People saying it's "disrespectful" too? :lol good lord

Why are some acting like exclusive content/marketing deals is a Microsoft thing? The practice actually started with Sony in the PS2 days. Also, nearly every AAA game that comes nowadays has some type of exclusive marketing or DLC. Sony isn't just doing this with just Destiny. They also have deals for Diablo III, Far Cry 4, Shadow of Mordor, NBA 2K15, GTAV, Batman Arkham Knight, Battlefield: Hardline and many other games as well. Stop acting like this is big bad Microsoft trying to take away the one deal Sony has or something. All it is clever marketing to raise awareness that the game is on Xbox because believe it or not these types of deals do work. That's the reason that eventhough XB1 is being doubled in sales by PS4, the XB1 Advanced Warfare is still leading in pre orders.
