Destiny and Phantasy Star Online are the same game.

I tanked a considerable amount of hours (still have a ton to put on Destiny though) on both games, this comparison really isn't that surprising since I've been comparing it to PSO since it came out. :P

Don't you ever compare the shitty destiny to my loved to death phantasy star online!

No one can replace my PSO!

except PSO2...:-( i hate Sega

I had this thought when I played the Destiny beta. Obviously the core gameplay is wildly different but the influence of PSO was immediately apparent. I purposely did not do much with the beta so as not to spoil the full game experience.

Having now spent a lot time with the full game, they are not even close to the same. Mainly because PSO is a far better game. The story is better (which is not saying much). The social aspects are better. The loot system and the loot itself is better. The different classes and races make much more of a difference and are far more interesting. The leveling is better. Even the hub/lobby is better, such as it was. There was also much more to do in PSO.

Honestly, I had a lot more fun even with PSU than Destiny. Hopefully Destiny gets some kind of Illuminus level update like that game did because it's on the shelf for me for the foreseeable future.

Couldn't really hold back, had to play at least a little to sate the pull. . .

All these "Destiny is pso" posts have seriously harmed my impression of whatever pso is supposed to be. I don't think that's the intent, but...

PSO still remains one the games I wish I can play :(

you can play offline on DC or Gamecube. Offline on Xbox if you have a gamertag attached to it. or Online on PC or Gamecube with private servers.

i played Offline and put 70 hours going through normal and hard mode on Ep.1. It's kind of a shallow loot grind, but the game has some charm that makes it a lot of fun to go back to. And the music is fucking amazing.

Yup.

Wanna know what's scary? PSO has a better story.

PSO is just an overall better game. Very hard to make something as good as the original. Even its sequel doesn't match up to how awesome the original PSO was, in my opinion. :P

I own both but... I dunno. I really have noticed myself taking a break from Destiny and not having much of an interest in going back outside of the occasional PVP match with friends.

Unsurprising to see this quickly devolve into a hyperbole filled, Destiny hate thread. I won't be coming back.
Uhh no? People are saying that it is very similar to PSO1 in structure. And they would rather play that. Even then some people said they liked Destiny since it reminds them of PSO.

Sorry this isn't a praise thread for Destiny.

Well people did hype it to the moon and are bitter how they fell into the hype. Also I think pso is falling under HUGE rose tinted glasses as well as it being the only game of it's type. It was very good but I think it's being under some hyperbole as well.

Maybe now Sega will realize they should bring pso2 to North America based on destiny sales

If you played pso2 you'd probably give it just as much hate as destiny.

Here's a FoMAR's interface

It's worth noting that PSO wasn't designed around having that action bar at the bottom, it was only added for PC versions. On console, you only had the action pallette on the right, AND two of it's eight slots were taken up by chat functions.

PSO, like Monster Hunter, can actually pull off the repetitive gameplay structure because they're actually fun to play. Destiny, while having solid mechanics, just got so dull after doing everything and realizing all that's left is the same strikes and raid repeated.

How much people in here who wants pso2 to come to the US have even played it?

I played about 100+ hrs then stopped. I didn't really want to get any more invested in it because If that mythical NA version ever dropped, I wouldn't be able to switch over. I never even really got that deep into the item crafting or sub classes, not to mention I didnt raise my level cap beyond 50 either

I got 2k hours in that game. I know for a fact it ain't coming to the US unless two things change. Time will tell if that happens though. They don't see the value of bringing it over and working deals with all that collab shit they have.

PSOW's bullshit borders on Segas sometimes. I think that community is a bit up it's own ass but that's just me. :E

Still you should have known after psp2i the chances of PSO2 dropped preciptously. You should know they are looking for good margins for minumum effort. PSO2 will take a bit more effort to make work in the US. Then they have to liscenes and other things. Then they might have to get some good localization. (More than just voice work, changing some of the gatcha) That shit is too much work for Sega.

I played pso2 on jp servers and I had over 2 dozen costumes sitting in my storage and even a Guld Milla (well it probably isn't that amazing anymore since probably a few patches came out since then). Then they banned locked out people outside of japan many months ago and I can't even play the new patch without going through hoops. I would like to see it come to the West, even though I'm too lazy to set up a vpn or what not to get around the block, and it would be sad to lose any of my 11 star loot and costumes (I only used meseta to get them all through shops too :( ).

You know I was talking about this the other day.

I love Destiny, but I would go as far to say that PSO is the better game.

I really wish that Vita version made it here.

At the time I dropped the game, there was very little in the way of licensed works. Right now though you're absolutely right, there's an insane amount of tie-in content they'd either have to drop completely or re-license and SEGA'd never put that kind of effort in.

You aren't wrong about PSOW, but I've been a member long enough to have seen the rise and fall of Ziggy FKL, Abdur's Law and other stuff and played the games as they have come out. We've been on the battlefield together this whole time. Just not one that's knocked WoW off of its perch yet.

They shit on Guild Milla. That shit ain't even good anymore. And it's not them banning people outside of Japan it's them not contacting ISPs outside their country to remove the backbone. Because they are only working with Japan, anything outside it's not worth it.
