Destiny House of Wolves will Have no New Raid

Raids are bad game design
you spend lots of time in Single Player and Crucivle learning the game but then the Raid is thrown with weird rules where you go whhaaa?

plus, no match making makes them suck. Like you have to do Online Dating to find groups to go Raid with.. jesus

when I wanna play a game, I wanna play game and no derp around trying find a group OUTSIDE of the game

The whole point is to discover the mechanics as a group and if you don't enjoy that then the raids are not for you.

Neogaf has a great Destiny community and if you think finding a group is a hassle then you should check out the OT in the community section and see how easy it is. There are very helpful people in the community.

The single player doesn't prepare you for the raids at all. No matchmaking still is pathetic. Just because it requires lots of teamwork doesn't excuse it not being present. Having to find ppl that doesn't suck is hard enough.

SO finding people that don't suck is difficult but you are ok with matchmaking which might team you up with complete strangers who may or may not have mics, experience or any skills whatsoever for the raid. Like i stated above, we are lucky enough to have a great Destiny community in this forum. Finding people that know wtf they are doing for the raids is not difficult

I don't think we'll see raids/nightfalls or other high level content besides weekly heroics have MM until later on down the road when Bungie finds a system that works. Maybe with Comet but more likely not until Destiny 2. I'm assuming there's going to be high level armor/weapons dropping from PoE, so I have a feeling they'll go the same route as Nightfalls/Raids and not include matchmaking. Commitment is really the biggest hurdle for MM in Destiny, because alot of randoms try to go AFK or put in as little work as possible for the rewards.

Agree all around, though I'm going to hold out optimism that we see some broader systems to help things with Comet; Bungie has hinted a few times they are at least looking at options.

Destiny combat is definitely similar to Halo combat. The difference is that Destiny is missing all the large scale battles, vehicles, set pieces that really helped make the combat fun and varied. Destiny combat is the same thing over and over and over
I'd agree with this (to a degree) if it wasn't for the awful accuracy penalties they introduced for everything. The airborne accuracy penalty is especially annoying (why introduce all those cool movement options if you are gonna force me to stand still on the ground to hit anything? Ugh) The accuracy penalty when not using ADS is pretty awful too (and the movement speed penalty when using ADS is dumb too, BTW) The game would play so much better if they removed those penalties...

Anyway, I have to agree with what you say about the battles and the vehicles. Destiny's vehicle sandbox is just pathetic, even when compared to Halo CE (a 13 year old game released on the original Xbox) You would expect a co-op focused shooter like Destiny would include at least one vehicle for more more than one person (like the warthog, for example) but nope. Destiny is also missing the epic battles and emergent encounters from Halo, and yeah, the level design is general is just incredibly disappointing. Going from creating levels like Tsavo Highway, The Storm, The Ark, The Covenant, etc, to the the awful levels in Destiny (aka: Dinklage Defender Simulator 2014) is just crazy.

Oh Bungie, you used to be so good at this...

The single player doesn't prepare you for the raids at all.

Actually it does. You are introduced to some of the mechanics during single player.

Eye of the Gateloard introduces the time gate activators, along with opening the vault. Sword of Crota introduces pure melee weapons used in both VoG and in CE.

First Dark Below mission introduces the Weight of Darkness modifier used in the first part of CE.

There are lots of little things, but they go unnoticed because they are sewn into the missions.

Even within the raids, knowing how to use the light shield during the Templar prepares you for how to use it during Aetheon.

How people didn't see this game for the horrible piece of shit it was before it was released is beyond me.

The raids are well designed, especially vog. the game does train you in the skills and roles you need.

destiny raids are the best co op fps anything that has ever been in a game. that's what makes this news hurt a bit.

although, and sorry to repeat myself, I am still waiting to here details about what IS being added.

The Ghost Edition of Destiny is one of the worst gaming purchases I've ever made. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game a lot, and have put many days worth of hours into it. But their post release plan is complete crap.

Just some interesting trophy statistic facts as of today, not trying to argue a point just making an observation:

  • 3.8% more players have completed a raid those who have fully upgraded an exotic weapon.
  • 0.7% more players have fully upgraded a legendary weapon than those who have completed a raid.
  • As for PvP regulars, 16% of players have earned the maximum weekly Crucible marks at one point in time but 3.7% more players have completed a raid.
  • Only 31.3% of players have obtained and equipped a piece of exotic gear
  • 13.3% of players have completed a raid on hard difficulty

Interesting stats. thanks

He forgot to mention the trophy glitch of not neing able to achieve the fully Exotic Weapon upgrade post Crota DLC.

I can't get the trophy even though i have upgraded seceral exotic weapons after dlc

Can we all agree just to quit until Destiny 2 before even thinking that bungie will serve up an expansion with any worth? They're just looking their player base in the eye while shitting in their cereal... my best friend is an environmental artist at bungie and the lack of concern they have for creating content for destiny is asrounding. They've been focusing on destiny 2 since destiny was still in beta. Its a scam more than a legitimate game

I play Destiny for the PVE and the Raids bring so much value to the PVE and Crota's End added a huge value for TDB expansion. I kept saying I felt bad for people who didn't raid, but bought the pass as there just isn't alot to do outside of the raid (again pve centric point of view here) and now that HoW is dropping without a raid, I feel as if I'm in that boat now too.

I'll try not to judge too hard as we have no real idea of the value that Prison of Eldars will bring to HoW, but I have to say my initial impressions of a 3 man randomly generated encounter based arena doesn't seem like it can carry the PVE side until Comet. I hope Bungie proves me wrong as I love the game a ton, but unfortunately it's just not shaping into what I want out of it.

Hope you got the creds for a mod to see, otherwise you might not want to just blurt this out.

I still don't understand why the game was so rushed that the story was completely gutted. Why don't they add an expansion that fixes the campaign lol

I am never buying a season pass again.

Same. I loved Bungie since Marathon. But Destiny is such a huge misstep...

As for the Raid, or lack thereof. One look at the stats is all you need to see why there is no Raid coming in the expansion. They cannot justify, in a game that's already spread too thin content-wise b/t repetitive, bland single-player and mediocre, un-fun PVP, to waste design cycles on a portion of Destiny that only a small percentage of players will even see. Why pile bad design upon bad design?

What they need to do, is improve the game for 100% of the player-base, and leave the bad design decisions on the cutting-room floor. It's like they took all the worst parts of MMO gameplay, melded them with the worst parts of 1st-person shooters and made Destiny.

I can't believe this is the same company that made Myth, Halo, etc. I (mistakenly) bought the season pass, so I'll check back in around the time it pops, but I have zero expectations.

I love that you say all that but you are still onboard for Destiny 2.

Fuck that.
I have over 1000 days played in Destiny. I love Destiny. But I play Destiny for the raids... everything I do is in bettering my position to raid. I've never enjoyed horde modes; that's not going to hold me over. Plus horde mode is only for 3 players? How the fuck is that supposed to go over for those of us who have tight knit raid teams?

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Fucking angry right now... Bungie, I want to keep playing Destiny, and I'm happy to keep playing Destiny, but you need to keep feeding me new raids to conquer.

Sorry, im just as pissed as you, but why pay for and then play something that you don't enjoy?

Why not both?

For 20 bucks I'd be much more inclined to make the purchase if there was a raid and this team arena thing.

I know next to nothing about what it would take to develop that much content but I would imagine that Bungie has the resources to put it together for the $20 sticker price. ESPECIALLY since there didn't seem to be much truly new content in the previous DLC
which I did not buy

I suppose a lot of it depends on exactly what the arena has to offer but it just seems to me that Bungie isn't exactly swinging for the fences lately.

Jesus, when is the Bone meant to get those missing strikes?
I believe September 9th will be the soonest they could come. Of course, Comet #1 will probably just bring more PSN exclusive content along with it.

Yeah, I hope his friend is not mad at him for telling everyone that the games he's working on are scams. I know I would be pissed if I worked in game development and my friends were talking shit about my game on forums, especially while citing our personal relationship.

God I fucking hate moneyhatting. I owned and played Destiny on PS4, but I am pissed that Sony paid Activision/Bungie to actively give Bone users a worse experience.

One of the worst practices to come about from modern game publishing.

I quit this game like cigarettes--basically cold turkey. It was pretty great for the first month or so, but some of the DLC decisions have segmented the community. I don't know if I'll ever go back at this point.

Edit: Does ANYONE have any original advertising for the season pass? All the info I can find now doesn't detail anything. I'm hoping some of the original advertising actually mentioned raids (plural) so that I can at least attempt to get a refund for the season pass since I know a refund for the game itself is out of the question. Fucking Activision (Bungie?)....

If this is true....

They pulled the raid out of this DLC so that they can announce it as the "expansion" this fall.

Fucking hilarious these assholes keep shoveling this shit and people keep playing it. I mean unless you just love the PvP and that's all you play, because PvE the content just isn't there. Yet there are folks that have put thousands of hours into it already and have every exotic weapon in the game, etc etc yada yada. I just do not get it.

To each his own I suppose. I mean hell if they can make money on such a shallow, vapid game and engender a whole community of streamers/youtubers/commentators/bloggers etc about it they must be doing SOMETHING right (hint: keying into the same addiction psychology that casinos do).

This is so shameful. How far you've fallen, Bungie, oh how very far.

This should end well...

Can't agree with that at all. The obtuse nature of raids are the most appealing thing about them for me, and I know alot of people feel the same way. Not everything needs to hold your hand and give you a waypoint to show what to do next. Raids are the best thing about Destiny by far.

Agreed. Once I got tired of Vault of Glass, I got tired of Destiny. Nothing else in the game is worth my time... it was all a means to and end (the raid). Had Destiny launched with 4 or 5 different raids, at different player levels and skill requirements, then even with the shit story and repetitive non-raid play, it would've been a worthwhile first entry in the series.

As it stands, it's a shallow house of cards built on the principle of fleecing its players and keeping them on the treadmill, drip-feeding the content to try and string people along for 10 years. It's a house of cards I sincerely hope topples due to the sheer dishonesty it was built upon to begin with.

Who told you it was a randomly generated encounter? This is the first I have heard anyone say that...

The worst part about Destiny is that it's actually a great game. The parts that are actually good (raids) I couldn't actually play.

Grouping up for anything is a bloody chore so even though I got pretty close to raiding level I never got a chance (or stood a chance) of doing it.

Same with the Nightfall stuff. The story was incoherent at the best of times and just dropped crap loads of exposition without explaining anything for the rest of it.

Why didn't the instances contain any interesting puzzle bosses like from what I've seen in the Raid videos? Instead I have to grind the wait for dinklebot to do something.

Crucible was fun, the gunplay was great and the PvP modes were fun to play but why wasn't more done with the factions than just grind for ages to get their flag then grind some more. Off the top of my head pitch factions vs factions and provide bonus XP for winning those matches. Leagues for factions where points are allocated on faction v faction games and run a season a week. faction objectives (win 4 faction games etc). I feel it could've been way more integrated.

I enjoyed Destiny but it's frustrating that I was essentially locked out of the high tier PVE and the lack of MM really hindered me.

Commitment is really the biggest hurdle for MM in Destiny, because alot of randoms try to go AFK or put in as little work as possible for the rewards.

As a parent, the level of commitment is definitely difficult to maintain. It's definitely discouraging that 3 hours or so of effort can reap very low rewards. The fact of the matter is that maybe this game isn't for people like me. I need to be able to get into the game quickly/efficiently kick some ass and get back out while feeling like I didn't completely waste my time.

I told my dad this last night. He was a huge Destiny player until this month. His reaction was, "And that's why they've lost a good chunk of their dedicated community.".

That last "expansion" was a giant waste of money and time. This sounds like a bigger waste of time.

It's awesome that you have a dad who plays Destiny. The last time I got my dad to play anything it was F1 2010.

Season pass was announced before we knew of raids.

The raid didn't even exist on launch

Before release, when I first heard the raids would have no matchmaking I thought "well that's something I'll never experience" and for quite a while that was true.

I decided to give the unofficial channels a shot when VoG was still current and I am glad I did. I made it perfectly clear I was a newbie and I got a great group who totally walked me through the encounters and I walked away with a shiny new vision of confluence. Ever since then I have raided every week.

I don't personally know anyone else who plays this game so every week, on 3 characters, I go to reddit and find a group. It takes me one post, or one response to a post to get grouped up and going. Literally within 5 minutes I am in a raid.

It's not ideal but it's Very easy and quick to get into a raid. I would highly recommend those of you who say they can't get five friends together to raid, to give /fireteams or lfg.net a try. I banged out two Crota's end raids in an hour last night.

Disagree 100%. You seem to be describing smartphone gaming more than a sit down interactive experience. A genre I mostly find uninteresting.

The best gaming to me is about trial and error, cooperation, and exploration. The Raids fit that bill perfectly. If you just want to shoot dudes and blow shit up, head to crucible or COD.

That's pretty much false. We've always new Destiny was an MMO spin on the FPS genres and that some kind of "raid like" activity would be included. It's one of the first things I knew about the game almost a year before release, and the only reason I was ever interested.

Edit: I mean I'm not asking for a refund, but let's not pretend raids were a surprise

Horde Mode + Raid + New Zone would have more in line with what a true expansion should offer -- especially since the last paltry DLC will have released nearly half a year ago by the time Wolves drops. Yet another example of Bungle staggering content for a content starved game.

Has anyone asked the important question?

Will Dinklebot be mute in HoW like he was in TDB or, even more inexcusably, Vault of Glass? I mean, ,why would our guide say anything here or when shit was going down in TDB? Or with the Vex? Or when Eris insulted Ghosts?

This is one of my main gripes, embarrassingly enough.

Exactly. They could at least write him out.
