Destiny looks pretty active even when there is a content draught atm

I'm not 100% sure but I believe in Activision's latest investor relations call it was mentioned that RoI has higher pre-orders than TTK.

Still the best gaming experience of this gen for me. I think I am close to a thousand hours since alpha and to me that's crazy. Never have I put in that much time into one game...not even when I was playing WoW back in the day.

SO hyped for ROI and eventually Destiny 2.

There's nothing else quite like it. It's been a relatively long time since I've played, but I constantly feel that pull, and I'm very much looking forward to the next big update.

Fantastic game. Glad the thing that I was once super excited for when it was still "Bungie's Unannounced MMOFPS", but then ended up finding kinda underwhelming from reveal to some time after launch, turned into something special after all.

30M sales and you have 1.6M logging in. How does that prove that most people are still engaged in the game?
1.6m logging during a content dry phase like right now is big regardless of how proportionally small that is compared to total sale of the original game.

"Most players" does not includes people who bought the game near launch but never played it past a month or two or people who only played the campaign and there are a lot of them. Basically the people who dropped out before even the first DLC hit for whatever reasons, this is important because Destiny today is a different game than it was when it was released.

Not being able to retain those people is not important since you can't retain players who move on quickly, what is important is that it retains the players who are willing to spend time with it.. who are the players that make up for the target audience...and 1.6 million in a dry phase is big.

Still bummed that they haven't done a PC version.

Not bothered or afraid it'll fail and damage the branch?

I have a feeling that it was partly a labor/time issue since Bungie was already developing and maintaining all four versions by themselves. There's also the fact that aim assist isn't really a thing in PC shooters, and the weapons all have aim assist as an actual stat that varies and is used as a balancing factor. Activision-published games usually get released on every platform that's even remotely feasible, so I don't think it was entirely by choice. I hope the next game has one since they only have to develop for two platforms this time instead of four.

It's mind boggling to me that Bungie can't supply this game with more than 1 paid-content drop per year, even though they have 500+ people plus an additional studio working on it.

I remember when Titanfall was gonna be the next big thing and Destiny would bomb. Lmao. Polygon were one of those.

A lot of us thought that.

It's the same for me.

I still fondly remember fans of The Division proclaiming Destiny to be dead upon its release.

fun memories
I think I actually liked walking around Division's setting more, but Destiny just has the gunplay that makes me keep coming back. And I really only played the beta and a rental copy anyway for Division.

dunno, bungie said something about not wanting to spread themselves too thin....well we know destiny 2 won't be on PS360, and rise of iron won't either. so that's 2 fewer consoles to work on, and so now maybe destiny 2 will be on pc?

I'm guessing a majority of those people have been working on Destiny 2 since TTK released.

I got Destiny when it launched, had alot of fun with it. I was also in the alpha and beta with alot of gaf players and it was super fun.

Unfortunately it took a while for more content to drop and it just wasn't fun to keep on playing the same things over and over so i traded it in.

I don't regret that but i am tempted to get it again with all the dlc and stuff. What edition would i be best getting?

The gunplay is practically faultless.

I think they would have higher numbers, if they offered matchmaking for the end game crap. It's kind of bizarre how they put that burden on the player.

Anyway the game is the shooter modernized. It's cool as hell, all the sci-fi themes and crazy guns. The artists are amazing. It's lame that Marty M. left the team, he brought something special to it. If only he had his hubris is check. If any game will keep me gaming into my late 30's and early 40's, it's Destiny.

Get Destiny: The Collection, it includes everything.

I think so. They're dropping last-gen consoles and there was a slip-up on an official stream when someone asked about a PC version and a developer responded "The first game? No."

Just got a PS4 with vanilla Destiny on disc.

I used to play it on the PS3, so I hope that I will don't have to buy all the DLC again. :P

I'm in the same place as you. I imagine getting the Collection depending on what DLC you already have. Though, I did the math for me and it looks like I might as well buy the Collection even though I have the first two DLCs already. And that 40 character boost...

Though, here's a quick question: Does the game hold characters on its server? I deleted my Destiny save, but would I be able to get access to my previous character if I pick the game up again?

Yeah i'm not sure either, I know i definitely don't have my old destiny save. To be honest though i'd probably just want to start a fresh.

That's the thing with Destiny.

It has great gunplay, graphics, multi player etc but not enough actual content to keep most players engaged. It's like it takes them 6 months to design two new missions which are just mirrored versions of existing ones.

It's been resolved IMO. There's new leadership at the studio.. It's just going to take some time to recognize the fruits of their labor.

2017 will be a good year for Destiny.

Yes, Destiny characters are server-side and shared within a console family, though they no longer share progression after this month.

You could get The Collection on PS4/XB1 and pick up where you left off with the vanilla version of the game, including if you were on a last-gen console.

Those stats prove the opposite of this statement.

I think you may be missing my point. Destiny could be doing 3 times those numbers easy if new (not re-hashed) content was made available.

Take king was not a lot of content and the other two expansions were just laughable if it did dent hurt so much. All the DLC was mainly QOL improvements over new scenarios to play through.

Don't get me wrong, I love destiny. It's why I purchased a ps4 and I got my money's worth.

I just struggle to understand how a 500+ man Dev team can sit idly by making destiny 2 when they should have supported D1 much more.

Anyway, let's hope they can carry the momentum through to D2 and it turn out to be the game we all hope it is.

Destiny has a huge problem with content droughts, but the moment to moment gameplay is the best in any AAA FPS, 30fps or 60fps.

Yeah, that's the thing with it for me. It's fun enough, but doesn't last long. I beat Kings Fall last night because some friends wanted to do it and thought "that was okay." I have no desire to ever run it again. The current endgame setup just still feels like garbage to me. Will probably pick up Rise of Iron, play it for 10 or so hours to finish the content, then move on.

Indeed. The vast majority of the team moved on to Destiny 2 right after TTK and there were some developing it even before that.

I think Destiny 2 will launch with a significant amount of content

Destiny is so much fun to play. Between all the PVE and PVP modes and all the hidden content and missions, there is tons to accomplish and master in the game. I'm closing in on 1,000 hours and my Year 2 Moments of Triumph t-shirt is in the mail. I'm geeked for Rise of Iron and Destiny 2!

I hope Bungie is working on some more lore content outside of the game. A pulp sci-fi novel here and there set in the Destiny universe would be nice.

I agree current endgame is shit. There's really nothing to come back multiple times for except pushing the number closer to 335, since all the weapons are useless. PvP is an unbalanced mess too.

Yeah, I fucking loathe Destiny pvp so that's out. As you said, all that's left is to just grind the content repeatedly for small upgrades or to have enough mats to get/make a slightly different gun.

I'm hoping Destiny 2 is a huge jump and not just more the same. It would be great to have reasons to make multiple classes or stuff like that. Right now, they all play basically identically with a minor grenade effect or melee buff tweak to separate them.

Lots of people getting ready for the new expansion and finishing their moments of triumph.

Destiny is great. A lot of the content complaints come from those who treat it like WoW and want it to be the only game they play. In fact I like Destiny because it I can invest deeply in it while also playing singleplayer titles like Fallout, Wolfenstien, Doom etc as well as multiplayer titles like Halo, Battlefield, Rainbow Six, etc

I don't get destiny. I beat the campaign on release and didn't find much joy in the crucible.

What keeps people playing?

It always makes me want to go back to see if it will eventually click for me.

There have been huge quality of life improvements and most of the post-release content has been way better than the vanilla game.

I just wish the world of Destiny wouldnt be such a empty, boring and lifeless world with a terrible generic story and dozens of asset reuses.

Hope they fix this with "Destiny 2: No early access this time".

A week ago I fired it up after a 4 month hiatus. Been playing it basically non stop since. Glad I took the break, I'm really enjoying it again.

Funny about the lack of content complaints. I thought the same at first, and for the first year. But comparing to similar games that have come out since (Division and NMS in particular), Destiny is content rich.

Other than the Raid, there are Dailies and weeklies everywhere. Bounties, strikes, test weapons, even triggered events in the Dreadnaught. Then you have court of Oryx and I guess they've improved the reef since I've dropped out.

They've also fixed the progression. I was stuck at 290 Light for months because I was never able to get a group to do the Raid. That's actually why I dropped out earlier. I just came back recently and in a couple of days I finally broke the 300 barrier.

But all that stuff is the same. It's just the rewards vary whether it's the daily or a weekly. The weapon tests are just running those using a slightly different gun. Court of Oryx is like half a dozen short, incredibly easy fights. It's still just the same small handful of assets and missions. For me, none of it feels meaningfully different in any way. I'm just literally grinding away at the same dozen or so missions for no reason.

There have done a much better job on progression though. The leveling up is much smoother now.

I've also been playing some hours in the past days. PoE, Steike Playlist, some previoulsy unfinished exotic quests, Court of Oryx, Leveled some Weapons. There is plenty to do if you look deep enough.

Why do people say shit like this? Destiny has more content that any other FPS I've ever played...
