To be clear on this: I don't even have a gaming PC so even if I downloaded it I couldn't even play it. I'm just wondering in case somebody gets to it and we can have impressions from other GAFfers.
It's just a preview build. Plus if the entire game leaked chances are no one would be able to decrypt the Steam encryption.JackEtc said:Holy crap, first Crysis 2, then Deus Ex. This blows =\

Don't you guys know that the best way to minimise the effect on the developer is to not spread the news ?

You aren't checking the right sites, I see it.e_i said:I see only one story on Google news about this...and none of the torrent sites, especially the most famous, have it.
Well that's good. Well, good given how bad a full leak would've been.Exuro said:It's just a preview build. Plus if the entire game leaked chances are no one would be able to decrypt the Steam encryption.
Yes, stand in front of the flood and it will dry up....CaLe said:Seriously, why even post this, other than provide a reason for people to download the leak ?

Super easily, and a number of ways. I would say the easiest is to make a bit of dummy data in one of the files, open it up in a hex editor, and change what it says. All you would need is like a 64 bytes to put a decent water mark in a single file.1-D_FTW said:Is there anyway they can hide code into preview releases they give to journalists and then bust their ass for a mega-lawsuit when they have hard proof about who's copy is being torrented? Seems like it should be simple.
Blizzard said:Aside from Half-Life 2 (servers hacked), no one ever has cracked a Steamworks game, correct? If the encryption is done properly and the keys are not deterministic it should be about as close to literally impossible as you can get.

Ugh, I always find this kind of reasoning extremely flawed: "Shhh, everyone be quiet, do NOT talk about topic X, we might just spread the news." This isn't some 1984-type of forum, this is news that everybody has to know about. The damage has been done, we might as well discuss its ramifications or consequences, instead of trying to ignore what everybody else already knows about.
Yep, I see a 3.95 one. If anyone is dumb enough to download a 4MB preview build of a game they deserve a virus.Keyser Soze said:I see the file - 3.95 GB. I also see similarly named files that are 4MB in size.
HAPPY VIRUS DAY EVERYONE!

Remember when people were saying that the Crysis 2 leak wasn't the full game because it didn't have DX11 settings or anything like that and it really wasn't the full game? Yeah.
DE1 took solid 20 hours or so. Never played IW, though.Zep said:How long are Deus Ex games usually?

What about retail copies? Don't those get encrypted as well?MNC said:I don't think Steamworks games are encrypted right off the bat; They code, they develop... and when it's time, it goes to steam where the files stay encrypted on their servers.
That was a full commercial leak though, right?Zenith said:when Crysis 2 leaked we weren't allowed to link screens of it that others had posted.
It was the full game, but while it was in beta. Still buggy for most, and hard to get running right.FunkyPajamas said:That was a full commercial leak though, right?

You take 25 hours to only complete main quest, 40 for everything, roughly.
No. The difference is that a developer build of Crysis 2 leaked while only a preview build of Human Revolution is out there. Either way it's silly that people are acting as if OP exaggerated or is being sensationalist.Lime said:Crysis 2 did not have DX11 at release. Deus Ex will be longer than 10 hours. Hard to get running in the first hour. People were already playing multiplayer the day of.JackEtc said:It was the full game, but while it was in beta. Still buggy for most, and hard to get running right.
