Deus Ex: Human Revolution - New Gameplay Trailer

Just get rid of that awful bullet counter, maybe have some levels with someother colour and it's perfect.
They seem to nail the multi-layered game of Deus Ex.

Man, it's like people don't deserve a game this good. What more could you want in a Deus Ex game? A 30 hour game with assets that detailed in an industry that thinks 5 hours with no multiplayer is ok.

There's a "Q&A" included in the PR-material with this trailer.

I like their honest answers:

2.Will we encounter books, news terminals, newspapers, ATMs; and will some even be influenced by your own actions?

You will encounter a lot of things to read like newspapers, eBooks, etc. Unfortunately, we had to cut the ATMs because we were running out of time.

12.Will I be able to pick all pieces of junk and different stuff just like in DX1 and use them to distract enemies or do something else with it?

You'll be able to use different types of boxes to distract NPCs indeed. If you're referring to things like a pencil or a glass the answer is no. We have a very detailed and rich world to discover so we had to make some tradeoffs in terms of the scope of interactive objects in order to keep a smooth framerate.

13.Why were BE cells, lockpicks and multitools removed?

We wanted to make hacking more important and deeper. And since we had so many features to develop for this game, we had to focus and lose some things like lockpicks and multitools.

also this

9.How does health regeneration work? What will trigger it, how fast is it going to be, will it use energy?

When you take damage your health goes down. If you have being hit for "x" seconds, than it starts to regenerate somewhat slowly. It's not as quick as games like Halo or CoD. You really need to stay out of the firing zone otherwise you won't last long. When in trouble, you can use consumables (if you have any) to replenish it faster or to boost your health when it's already full.

works like metro 2033 I guess

and also liked this

Every hacking session is different. Based on your level of hacking augmentations, the chances that the Sub-Routine will detect you will vary.

Which would describe every stealth game ever. Deus Ex also had shooting worse than in Half-Life, but that jankyness was a part of its charm... But I agree that they had to step that up to have any chance on marketplace and, frankly, make a better game.
Yeah, Thief is still my favorite stealth series. <3

That's pretty much the long and short of it, though. They need to make a better core game. Deus Ex was brilliant in how it allowed you to approach every situation differently. There were many options available throughout the game (though you could always count on crate stacking to save the day). The core mechanics (shooting, stealth, etc.) were all pretty poor, though, and would not have worked well on their own. When you stopped and thought about what you were doing in the game world, it seemed like the best game ever, but the minute to minute realities of the gameplay are not great.

This seems to have a chance at delivering.

Aside from the solid looking mechanics here and the beautiful art direction (I love the golden hues), we've seen very large environments in some of the preview material. The massive reduction in, well, everything ruined the second game. The worlds were tiny and simplistic, the gameplay was overly streamlined, and there were loading screens around every corner which completely destroyed the world they attempted to create. Simply removing these issues will make a huge difference, but they seem to have gone far beyond simply addressing problems with the second game.

Who is making this? I've read it's some random team up in Montreal, but I'm not sure if there are any familiar faces working on this. Would be really cool if a new team came out of nowhere and released something that lives up to the original and then some.

Fantastic. I really want this game. It looked a little stiff and unpolished but there's still plenty of time left. Gameplay wise I'm very excited. I like the way they blend the melee with the first person perspective.

What do you want then? They have to do something to spruce up the visuals. The original game was great, but even back then, the animation and presentation was beyond awful. The game just looked terrible in motion. It didn't do stealth gameplay all that well either (worse than Thief by a long shot). It was fantastic for its time, but it has a lot of mechanical problems.

This trailer seems to suggest that there is a layer of complexity which was lacking in the second game along with a lot of the polish necessary to compete with modern day games.

I'm thrilled that the action actually seems to look polished this time around.
How about they take out those super-chilling 3rd-person takedowns and cat-kneeing (MGS) and improve everything else and we call it day?`That's the major thing holds me away from the game. I want them to be minimal as possible.

Looks like you want a different game then buddy.

It is a random team in Montreal! It formed in early 2007 specifically to make this and Thief 4. It's a pretty small group too, I think there's only ~50 people working on Deus Ex 3.

Here's a shot of the team:

You missed the parts of the trailer where the player circumvented guards by going through a hidden path, or when the player went invisible to sneak by security, or when the player snuck behind two guards and took them out unnoticed, or when the player wasn't behind cover and used melee attacks.

I saw him use guns a whole lot. :lol

Maybe its way too early to tell from the footage but I am hoping levels are way more open, so players can approach them in different ways according to their own playstyle.

The only aspect where this doesnt look like Deus Ex is on the art direction, which dropped the whole semi-futuristic aesthetic.
This time around you may even get two whole different running animations.

Wow @ Michael McCann's work.
So far, his music has been awesome, in all of the trailers, and also, i'm seeing a great design in general.

The only issues i have: a bit too yeallowish, still and.. FFS, put some AA in there.

yeah, the bullet counter is the only thing that bothers me, but at times it isn't there which makes me that it can be turned off. Or maybe it just turns on when you start shooting.

well, it is a trailer and some people would want to play it like a shooter. Just go look at LTTP deus ex threads and see people complaining that they couldn't play it like a shooter.

The game does look pretty spiffy, I just can't reconcile that Deus Ex is coming out under the banner of Square Enix.

I like how people are complaining about a action heavy trailer and how that isnt in line with the deus ex they know. Because we all know that a 90 second trailer showing the sophisticated vent layouts of a level and shoddy gunplay would make this a multimillion seller, right? Sheesh, give them credit, marketing a deus ex game is almost as tough as developing one.

From the new EG interview:
Eurogamer: What's the orange line that appears around certain items and enemies about?

Jean-Francois Dugas: It's part of the Retinal Prosthesis augmentation that you get at the beginning of the game - it gives you information on things you can interact with, etc.

This and Portal 2 are the games I am looking forward to the most next year. It looks like they really got this one right. Se Bioware, depth=good.

You know, this vid reminds me that Montrealers make the best _____ . I can be excited about the Mass Effect spin off too.

It certainly looks like it has potential (and already light years behind the game that will go unspoken). I just hope there's an option to disable the interactive glow on objects. If anyone at Eidos is reading this, please make it so. It would be a real game killer and harm nobody by allowing this default to be disabled.

Oh man... That interview and the accompanying footage just made me all sorts of giddy. Guaranteed bought once the reviews confirm the execution of all those gameplay mechanics.

Also, I've been waiting to use mah favorite gun from Red Faction! :lol

First time ever an inventory screen have given me a stiffy.

disclaimer: may in fact not be videogame related.

The interview said it was an augment you get at the beginning of the game. Assuming you can toggle augments on and off, I think you'll be able to disable it.

They've shown the exact right stuff. They have all of the elements in there that made Deus Ex one of the best games ever - I just hope there isn't a load of crap inbetween that stuff!

My hype is growing so fast...

Okay join me in the "holy shit an inventory screen yes" crew.

It may not seem like much of a big deal, but after Invisible War...
