will this game have steam achievments on pc?

I assume so. If its Steamworks then I'd say definitely.

Nice boxart.

A huge step up from this:

If this is the hacking in the game, I would be happy.

Hopefully they follow Just Cause 2's example and release all pre-order DLC at a later point for purchase/dirt cheap.

both are Eidos and steamworks, so hopefully they share that model

Eidos Montreal community manager Kyle Stallock here. This is just a bare version of the hacking minigame. Glad you like it. :)

will some kind of explosives be available to non-preoders?

I mean I'd have preordered it but all options on the site aren't available to me. Will these promotions be available on Steam?

It feels so surreal that this is actually coming out, and looking pretty good to boot. Bring on Thief 4.

Thief 3 was amazing, despite its flaws. Especially compared to what DE:IW was to DE.

we're officially in an age where such 1-9 stalwarts as "grenade launcher" and "remote mine" are now cordoned off behind the velvet pre-order rope.

so much caustic feeling generated just because some guy standing next to a white board woke up that day with a bad idea.

Can you clarify the pre-order situation? That is, can you tell us whether the pre-order content is accessible through other means, and what the main differences between each version (PC, 360, PS3) will be?

I'll get the collector's edition for sure if it comes out in America. I'm assuming that "la bande-originale du jeu" means the original soundtrack, which I would have picked up on the side anyway.

Great news. As someone who plays through these games hacking every computer, I'm glad that it is a fun hacking minigame. I like that it feels like you're searching for files in a computer rather than playing a loosely connected minigame (like the pipes in Bioshock).

and go tell the guy who came up with the idea to take the sharpie he wrote it down with and lodge it in his throat next time he feels like contributing to the project.

at least the PC version will have both packs unlocked.
Is this for sure? As in, everything will be included with the PC version without having to unlock or download anything? If so, I'm not so bothered... to be honest I completely forgot there was a console version. :lol

Since when is this sort of language permitted on NeoGAF... ?

Goddamn.

My apologies. I'm more of a lurker here. I'll do my best to fix this.

Edit: Sorry if I don't answer all of your questions. I'm very busy today, and on top of my usual activities I'm monitoring comments on a few message boards. Also, as much as I'd like to respond to particular questions, sometimes my hands are tied.

This won't work. They need to sell to MW crowd as well, all the 12-year olds will remember the sneaking trailer and refuse to buy the game. They need to advertise run&gun while at the same time giving clues and pointing to the fact sneaking and covert ops is there as well.

P.S. Hacking minigame is ace.
if that's the case then their targeted audience are those 12-years old boys or trailers are highly misleading, which means either way they fail to provide an explanation what the game is about.

Understandable. But I think it's safe to say that the game IS coming out early next year, right on schedule. That's the only reason I could think of for your sudden awakening :lol

Nice to have you on this board anyway.

A couple of comments:

I would like to see some more PC version footage if possible.

Also, I will be getting the CE version which I assume will get me all the bonus stuff. Can't say that I am not disgusted with the whole exclusive content deal but that is not up to Eidos to just decide I am sure.

Just because of 2 weapons and a mission..? Really....?

... Wow.
That should be in the game, full stop. Even if a single texture, which should be on the game, is a pre-order bonus, that isn't acceptable.

and you say only 2 weapons now. well that is just a start. I can't wait till 2012 when iit becomes more than that.

The point of the remark might be legitimate, but the way it was written wasn't very civilized.

GAF? Civilized?

Their target audience is 18-35 year olds, the hardcore gaming wheelhouse, not 12 year olds.

Does covering your lab coats in olive oil protect you from all the dangerous chemical weapons research they were undoubtedly doing?

I just realized Kotaku got blocked in my country. Doesn't matter though :D

Sounds like a reasonable deal. Hopefully it includes the full soundtrack.
Where do you live? Sounds like a wonderful place.

Let's not kid ourselves anymore, shall we? Majority of people in 18-35 bracket have jobs, families, kids = LIMITED TIME. Why is every game always filled with tits&ass + violence? So that teens can play it.

Even if devs want this to appeal to Deus Ex fans, the publisher wants this game to sell, they are already talking about this game being the first in new franchise. Meaning you have to sell to MW crowd, which is composed a lot of times of unemployed 12-20 year olds.

That's why the trailers are "omfg, I'm awesome, one click = 5 kills".

When will preorders be available on Steam?

not in any official capacity but like how all th preorder bonuses in NFS and Force UNleased 2 were all unlocked with a bit of editing.

you never read GAF before? that's tame and completely acceptable given the content-gouging.
