it was pretty much exactly what i expected
It had absolutely zero unnessecary filler. It was tense, dark and threw some good twists out. It also had the best ending to a premiere since Season 2's discovery of the bodies in the ocean.
So, the gigs up. Own up, you murderers. Yeah, the members of GAF who kidnapped and killed the writing crew and replaced them with people who seem to be somewhat competent.
You know who you are.
No no no no no no. That entire arc was completely forgettable and had no lasting impressions whatsoever.
Lumen was absolutely, eye gougingly, ear piercingly unbearable.
Ruined S5 for me more than anything else. Absolute joke of a character.

I am in the unique position of only having watched the first and second season in their entirety. I sorta skimmed through season three and skipped 4,5 and 6. Seems like the consensus is that I didn't miss much right?
For what it's worth, I YouTube'd the recaps for 4, 5 and 6. Is there any reason to go back and watch the previous seasons or should I just ignore them?

Season 4 is the best in the series. I'd watch that and not bother with 5 and 6.

Lumen had no redeeming qualities as a character or as a looker. Dissapointment!
Season 1 is my favorite by far. No question. Lila was sexy as hell but she murdered Doakes, so fuck her. Also no one questioning why Doakes would kill himself by explosion is fucking stupid.

soo much tension...man its really gonna suck for me if we don't get some 'feel good' moments going forward and its all just this tense abyss between Dex and Deb. i really feel bad for Deb
i don't wanna see Dex go down either, but he should really scale back some of the careless/stupid shit he does. Last season i was really hoping, that just once, he would help out his recently promoted sister with his detective skills, instead of going after the suspects himself.
what i liked about his character originally was he went after people that slipped through the law and justice system, but nowadays he just goes for anyone. i had hoped that his character was going in the direction of where he finds the criminals who escape the system, and using those skills hands the info off to Deb, who is now in a position to do something about it legally. perfect team right there.
also, Quinn needs to go. doesn't need to be killed off but he just needs to be gone.

All first episodes are good and the show drops off from there. Lets hope this doesn't.

I thought that was an excellent episode. Best in a while. Hell, they even had the balls to kill off a character for once. Granted, Anderson wasn't a major character, and yeah he was ultimately just moving to another show, but still it's a nice change of pace.
For a Dexter episode, it was refreshing in the sense that it had almost no filler, and was much darker overall than recent seasons. I just hope that they really know where they're going with this over the next two seasons. While I was surprised that they went as far as they did in a single episode, I'm afraid that this means they'll hit the brakes and start to dawdle as they often do.

I thought it was funny that Quinn said something about Angel still riding his ass about his drinking and stuff. It's supposed to be like 2 days ago that Angel almost got killed by Travis because Quinn was late :lol. You should really get over these things Angel.

Extremely promising start. And I HATED s5 and s6.
Its obvious that with a definite end in sight, they have everything planned out.
Dexters downfall is going to be glorious. As long as they don't fuck up the excellent start they've got now.

That was a fucking good episode. Compared with the downgrade in quality, and the generally shit seasons 4-6, this was fantastic. Back to seasons 1-2 quality. There was no filler, none of the shit pacing of earlier. Most of all, the arc is actually related to the rest of the show, rather than "what does Dexter learn this season?" (which is good and all, but should never be a season arc).
...so, you've seen the preview but not the first episode? If you mean the ep 2 preview, then well, I haven't seen it yet.
Anyway, this is probably the first overwhelmingly positive GAF consensus on Dexter for years. Its like I'm in bizarro world.
Heh, pretty good episode. About the ending, I didn't expect that they would actually go there (at least not in the first episode). I seriously hope this will put an end to that horrible Deb - Dexter romance plot.
However, I will remain sceptical, because I also liked the first episode of season 6.
When I saw Ray Stevenson's name in the opening titles, I screamed like a little girl. I totally missed that he was confirmed for this season.

Yeah, that was pretty good. Deb was there to finally keep the heat on Dexter, and not too much Dexter doing crazy shit that no one notices. Though it was colossally stupid to kill that guy in the lost baggage room.
Dat ending. I had no idea they'd do it that fast. Thank fuck. Also, for some reason, Deb looked really fucking hot there. They probably upped the makeup because of the close ups in that scene.

Loved the ending, they could have dragged it forever but they got it done in the first episode!.
Yep, and they FINALLY went back to deb being on the table in s1.
