Love the way it ties back to the two fan-favorite seasons. Cliffhanger caught me off guard. This could be good.

That was pretty great. The final scene was brilliant. All the scenes between Dex and Debra were well made.

Showtime released the full episode on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S4Cn7xeiUY&feature=g-all-u&pxtry=1 The question is, will they do it with the entire season.

I think they have been doing this for the past few seasons. I don't have Showtime, just watch on Netfilx, but I remember watching Season 5 episode 1 on youtube, and that was the only episode. I think its a teaser to get people like me to subscribe....

This felt like a direct follow up more to season 4, than to the last two seasons, which is a good thing. I really thought they were going to drag out the cat and mouse game with Deb and Dexter this season, which is why the ending surprised me a lot more than it should have.

The one thing I miss is the intricacies of the killings. In the first few seasons, the code was ultimately about not getting caught, and Dexter even admits that he should have followed the code by killing Travis when he should have last season. Just threw me off, I really hope the writers start getting better about where he is killing, and how the killings are made.

surprisingly decent opener. sure, it's a low bar after the last two seasons but i really enjoyed it last night. i actually put down my phone and magazine to focus (usually only happens during breaking bad, boardwalk, etc) .

I did not expect that cliffhanger. Would have guessed that writers would never venture into that territory this soon, but glad they did. Liked that it went back and referenced season one, also this season looks more like a continuation of what happened in seasons one and two. Will see how it pans out, but seems like it is off to a good start.

Kind of surprised at how much story related development there was in this season opener, I hope it doesn’t get to convoluted down the line.

Wow, best episode in a long ass time. For the record i love seasons 1-4, and hated season 5 due to lumen. Finishing season 5 took a toll on me in that I had to force myself to keep watching the show, and as a result i skipped season 6. I'm hoping the series ends next season on a high note.

While I thought the episode was pretty good, it just doesn't grab me like the show used to. It's probably just a product of this being the seventh season. We'll see. I'm glad that the Showtime team has said that this is the "beginning of the end" for Dexter as a series. I really hope they keep things moving.

After the last two seasons, its understandable. Wonder how the show would rank, if lets say Deb caught Dex killing
Trinity
, and the last two seasons never happened.

I'm not trying to get my hopes up, but as you said, with the end in sight, it should really cut down on any sort of filler. Everything has to build to an apex that matters for the overall arc of Dexter. I'm certainly hoping for that much.

Aside from the big cliffhanger ending, that was a near total waste of an hour. I'm glad they aren't dragging the Deb crap out for a whole season, but I'm not desperate enough for this to be good to start considering it quality television again. Was it better than this show's worst? Definitely, but what kind of watermark is that?

Huh, that was actually good. I like theyre actually treating Deb like a human being. Some stuff needs working on, like the stupid airport kill. All in all..Dex is back?

I'm just worried that after the cliffhanger, they'll drag out the dexter/deb stuff all season, have them talk about shit for 10 episodes, then have the hammer come down as we watch dexter-houdini magically escape

Damn, that was actually pretty good, apart from the whole airport kill shit. I'll be surprised if they can keep it up, but as it stands I can't wait until next week.

Airport nonsense not withstanding, that was the best episode in the last few years I think. Nice to see they don't make Deb the typical dumb cop and drag her figuring this stuff out. Going to be interesting next episode to see where this goes, but im still hoping it goes down a weird brother sister love thing that has her protecting him.

my main worry as well, but like I said, hopefully the beginning of the next episode is where everything is put on the table. And then things can get as crazy as they want from there.

Things that annoyed me:

- Dexter super copping the fingerprint but forgetting the blood slide.
- LaGuerta randomly finding the blood slide.
- Dexter doesn't have a password on his computer.
- You can't just 'delete' bank accounts.
- Deb always being on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

And worst of all:
- THEY FUCKING KILLED DOAKES 2.0

The only part I liked was Dexter's dad manipulating him about not ever telling Deb the truth.

^
What deleted bank accounts?

From the credit card scene?

You can easily disable your own credit cards within minutes.

- Dexter doesn't have a password on his computer.

He does have a password. Louis has been established as a computer expert, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he could hack into Dexter's computer. Would take longer than it would to "get a glass of water" like he told Batista's sister.

He closed the credit and debit cards (I think) which is something you can do at any time. Again, it's hard to believe he could do it so quickly, but his obsession with Dexter runs deep, so we can assume some preparation.

Dexter has been sloppy since Season 5,
in Season 6 his sloppiness increased 10 folds and right away on the 1st episode of Season 7 his MO is way sloppier than in previous seasons.

And what is up with Harrisson? he is like a prop in the background LOL

I will still watch Dexter but I recognise that the series is not as good as it used to be.

AFter the the big dumbing down of Batista and Quinn in Season 6, I don't expect any good from these writers

How about the police chief filling up gas cans at the nearest gas station right before a church is burnt down? That seemed like a pretty sloppy scene.

There's another season correct? In that case, heres how I see this season going down :

Deb simply won't let this drop. There will be back and forth for a while, with Dexter finally deciding to flee. But before he does, Deb conveniently gets killed by the dude who sent him the hand.

Was it? I don't remember him realizing that his cards were declined, that was only in the flash forward.

Pretty sure it was just a fakeout to make it look like he was running after Deb found out. It was just a flashforward to him trying to get to the airport to kill the guy. Pretty sure it was just bad writing that the cancelled cards didn't seem to phase him at all. If it went even longer without him realizing his cards are cancelled for this to be a flashforward to some other time it would be even worse.

I actually chuckled out loud when they cut to the overhead shot of Dexter's setup in the airport backroom. Oh well, it's Dexter.

There was a time when Dexter was a black comedy and not just a shitty soap opera about a deranged guy. The entire airport sequence was just about the funniest thing in the show since season 1.

Then you fucking stab him in the eyes with a pair of icepicks.
No one touches my computer let alone hacks into it.

I don't just give them a pass.

Guy is just as suspicious to Dexter as Dexter should've been to LaGuerta 5 season ago.

Entertaining episode. Love that they've already had Deb finding his slides. That was quick!

I'm glad they didn't shuffle their feet with that. When I saw the footage in the promo of Deb finding the slides and whatnot, I figured, "Okay, that's either later in the season, or some kind of misleading daydream sequence." Glad I was wrong.

The Dexter/Deb kiddie flashbacks are probably going to lead to the idea that she has known and been kinda ok with Dexter being a weirdo all along.

If you watch this new look forward (again, spoilers), you'll see that
Deb seems to be trying to curb and control Dexter's urges by having him move in with her
.

I'll bet she starts thinking back and realizing the signs were always there, but judging by
her reactions like throwing up and slapping him
, it seems unlikely that she's always known, at least on a conscious level.

Bet her therapist is going to have a field day with her now.

I can't believe it. I was so ready to give up on this show (again), but shit. Aside from you typical dumb Dexter moments (the strip club, the iphone fingerprints app, etc...) it was really good. The start of the episode had me fearing for the worst. Were they really going to let him get away with it again? Thankfully no. That ending gave me goosebumps. So glad that Deb has finally found out the full truth!

I also just realized: the girl I've been seeing briefly this summer, and may or not be seeing again soon (complicated) looks a lot like Deb. Not quite as lanky, but their faces are quite similar.

I didn't think the episode was particularly good, just more shocking than anything that they actually went through with the whole Deb thing. It could be really good (Yvonne <3) but... it's still Dexter. Whenever they play it straight, it usually falls flat on its face.
