DF: Dark Souls 3 Xbox One Frame-Rate Test

From really needs to work on their engine, If their games weren't as awesome as they are no one would be defending them.

wtf is it with FROM programmers!? hard to believe none of them have noticed the frame pacing issue even when it has been widely discussed by so many outlets, disgraceful

Frame pacing really killed my enjoyment in Bloodborne, so I guess I'll have to wait to build a new rig. Oh well.

Please release a new generation of consoles! This trend is horrendous!

This has less to do with the hardware itself and more to do with the fact that From has and sadly is looking to always never put a premium on performance.

Will play on PC only and it was never an option to play anywhere else with how shitty this developer is at locking down performance on fixed hardware. I expect both console versions to be a bit of a mess. Don't expect a patch either. They only patch things when they fuck up DLC.

Love their games but absolutely hate the way they shit games onto platforms with little to no regard for how their games perform or the quality of their ports. There are enough examples on every platform that this cannot be disputed. I thought they had turned a corner with DS2: SotFS on console but I guess not.

Well, both Xbox One and PS4 are very underpowered. If not, most games would run at least 1080p at 60fps. They managed to get the PC version to 60fps with all bells and whistles at least.

I won't dispute that, but From having performance problems is nothing new, and frame-pacing issues aren't super common across the board on consoles, even in games that are doing more than DaS3.

People like to throw around the word 'unplayable' for framerate drops in a lot of games, but that particular part in NG2 was unplayable. Though i remember when the X360 finally allowed installing games to the HDD, it really helped it out.

I had a friend who suggested the same, and this argument is nonsensical. When other games (like Max Payne series or Cave shoot-em-ups) deliberately go into slow motion like the staircase does in Ninja Gaiden 2, it makes things easier. Because that's what slow motion does, and that was also the obvious intention with the NG2 staircase. Team Ninja threw dozens of enemies at you with place to hide because with slow motion they knew the player could handle that. It's supposed to be a breather, a place the player gets to kick ass and enjoy it in a game that is otherwise trying to murder you non-stop. That's why so many players love it.

It's not ignoring your inputs or skipping frames, which would make it hard. It's just slow motion, everything else is still going on normally. Why would having more time to react and plan make anything harder?

It's also not bad frame pacing, because the pacing is just normal but slower.

HDD install probably didn't do anything, it's that later patches massively toned down the number of enemies in that section. A shame, launch staircase fight was one of the best gaming moments of the seventh gen.

Anyway, on-topic: while I know we can probably fix this on PC, but I'm still worried how easy that's going to be. I notice this shit really easily, it gives me headaches. Wish the game supported above-60 framerates, that would make it so much less of an issue.

No they would just up the graphics more so it still runs like shit. Every generation is a big jump in power but do games ever really run better?

Welp, I guess that's that. I was seriously considering double-dipping and grabbing the Xbone version right away with that JP shop trick. This news isn't really a surprise I guess, but it's still pretty disappointing.

Three weeks for the PC version. Come the fuck on, Bamco. ( ._.)

Well they are going to keep getting away with it as long as fans keep bending over and saying, "sounds like a souls game!" And they buy it anyway.

From Software valuing pretty stonework over framerate like always. Bloodborne was the first title that I felt they got their shit together but even then there were frame pacing issues.

The hardware is a joke tho. Both the Xbox and ps4 are weak. Games look ruff abd run poorly. I love my consoles but it is something we need to accept. We wouldn't be hearing of rumblings of new upgraded systems if this wasn't the case. Anything that is true Llysfaen next gen and not cross generation is sacrificed in some way. Especially compared to pc

Lol blame "weak" hardware all you want, they have been releasing shittily optimized games for years. It's them, not the hardware.

Glad I didn't cave and order it early on the consoles. Waiting for the PC version. Although wouldn't that be some shit if it had similar performance issues?'

Good thing they had the A-team on this game!

That theory was already debunked with Bloodborne. It had a ton of problems too (although according to the average GAF poster on the subject it didn't).

A-team/B-team stuff has never been about the technical stuff, just designed.

That's entirely untrue. In fact, it was about an equal split when discussing the overall design of the game and the hitbox/hurtbox problems. Let's not start revising history just because a new Miyazaki game has been released.

i7-5820k and a 290X in 1440p max. details -> 58fps avg.

Why show just the average though? Lowest framerate is more important IMO. Although, unless you're using something that displays framerates as your guage while you actually play, benchmarks can be horribly misleading at times, especially with transitions. Unigine Valley for example tanks minium framrates every time it switches scenes, even when you're able to run it at 60fps flawlessly.

This is irrelevant.

There are exceptional console ports this gen from other devs.

Lay the blame on From Software, who've had an extensive history of releasing poor console ports.

+1

So glad I preordered on PC. It's hard to believe this old ass PC with a 680 that I bought used off a friend will play games better than this 2 year old console. While I agree that both consoles appear to be a lot weaker than the same points last generation, at least the PS4 is able sometimes hit the 1080p target at 30 fps.

Sounds pretty terrible. Much like DkS1. And their inability to sort out the frame-pacing is honestly a bit pathetic. I'm still getting the game, but man, From kinda suck and engine development. They should just use UE or something.

It's not really a travesty, it's better than normal console souls.

It also looks a fuck ton better in every way.

But it's apparently much worse than BB. Why? Is it doing that much more?

You don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm saying Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1, and Bloodborne all had bad performance issues (some moreso than others, but still present). Hitbox issues is tangential to my point.
