[DF] - Minecraft Dungeons - The 30fps/60fps Divide - Every Console Tested

Developer Mojang makes the jump to Unreal Engine to create a brand new dungeon crawler based on the Minecraft universe. The console ports, handled by Double Eleven, are in focus here today though, where base PS4, Xbox One and Switch run at 30fps, while the X and Pro get 60fps. We dig in to find out what else divides the machines.

- Developed on UE4, performance is divided
- Base PS4, base XBO, and Switch target 30fps
- Base XBO has odd stutters, flashes of odd frame pacing
- Base PS4 holds 30fps more often and has less stutters
- Switch has more stutters than XBO version, erratic frame pacing, swamp areas lower FPS to 25 fps
- One X and Pro target 60 fps
-
- Switch docked is 1080p, portable at 720p. both use DSR and drop when under heavy load
- XBO and PS4 are 1080p locked
- One X targets native 4k but slips in heavy scenes
- Pro runs at 1350p max and slips in heavy scenes as well
- Settings are same across XBO and PS4 systems
- Switch settings are scaled back compared to the other consoles, shadows are much lower on Switch
- AA is less effective on Switch
