Tangentially related but do we have an updated time frame for the Mac version of Torchlight?

January 21, 2010: Update From Runic

travisbaldree said:
Hi everybody! I just wanted to make a quick post to let you know what's up with Runic these days, and what's in the pipe.
Our post count has been a bit low lately as we gear up on lots of other tasks, and as we catch up on things after returning from Winter break.

We took a much needed two weeks off this winter, which allowed us to recharge our batteries a bit - however, since we were on skeleton crew during that time, and since that also coincided with winter sales events, we've been digging out of a lot of correspondence since then. You have my apologies for some of the slowness - we're doing our best to get on top of things.

So, here's what's up right now with Torchlight -

* We are in testing for a new patch for Torchlight, for all vendors. This will include several bugfixes and tweaks, and a few small goodies.
* We are endeavoring to get our Mac port toward completion - we ran into some schedule snags and are currently getting them sorted out, and think we are getting this on the right track to finish up.
* We are beginning translations to various languages for international release

Apart from Torchlight itself we are....

* Moving heavily into preproduction on our next game.
* Getting ready to move our offices ( Sublease is up in just 4 months! )

As far as the next project goes, we should have some interesting announcements about that in the next few months I think.

At any rate, we're still actively supporting Torchlight and trying to finish the rest of its release as far as other platforms and languages go, while still addressing some existing issues with the game, while at the same time moving forward on a brand new project.

Thanks all!

Travis

Amazon at least has Starcraft II on sale for $49.99 :lol

though for some reason they still haven't adjusted my order's price on it...

War3 was $57 at release at Costco. Anyway, some things are worth 60 bucks. I am happy to pay 60 for Diablo 3 and as much as I dislike Activision I can't be angry with them because D3 will easily cost them much more to make than the average 50 dollar game.

I will hand the money to Kotick myself.

Even when they start charging $4.99/month for a Battle.net account to play it.

Thanks Flyin, that reeeally helpsssssss

Thanks Flyin, that really helps!

I hope people saying they'll pay for this at $60 weren't bitching about CoD at $60.

It's also funny that anyone would blame Kotick or Activision for this. Blizzard gets to do whatever they want. They are as autonomous now as they were with Vivendi's management. They set the price. They decided on always connected battle.net

Worth it. The big reason MW2 and AC2 are rip-offs at $60 is because the console version was also $60 including what they had to pay Sony/MS, a fee that wasn't required on the PC. Diablo 3, so far, doesn't have any other versions, so it seems more fair. plus Diablo 3 will make me drive less, eat less, do anything other than play it less. I'll save money in the end.

The fact that in 2010, there are people on GAF that don't understand what a placeholder price (or date) is, is worrying

It won't be out until at least 2011. There is no set price.

Blizzard games coming once every 12 years are worth more to people than annual cod releases.

This and SC2 are worth 60. I pay that for some console games.

But few other pc titles are worth that, Id maybe pay that for a new Anno since I fell in love with the last one. But thats about all.

I've payed $60 for games I'll get much less playing time on. They'd be dumb not to price it at 60.

Hell, make a sweet CE and I'll pay even more. :lol

The question on my mind is when the heck is Diablo 2 and its expansion going to cost less than 40$? Hasn`t it been like 10 years now?

because everytime blizz shows new media on the game it sells another bizillion copies.
bizillion x $40 = youdothemath

Isnt the battlechest like half that price in most stores?

Also, obligatory rage about price.

Thats true, but I still think they would sell more if they lowered the price. Maybe a gabizillion.

Also, I would buy it in a store, but I don`t live in an English speaking country, so costs begin to escalate if they`re not DD.

Even at 59.99 I will still be playing Diablo III for 100's of hours, so I really don't mind. Just release the damn thing already!!!! :lol

It always amazes me that gamers are seemingly willing to part with more and more cash because "It's better than other games so it's worth more" instead of the more obvious "It's better than other games which really should be much less".

Ah well.

Hopefully there will be key resellers where I can get the game dirty cheap. I'm not paying that much for a game, even if it's a blizzard one :(

Not paying that much for a PC game. It'll be on sale at one of the major retailers most likely anyway.
Same! No way in hell am I going to pay that much for a game, a PC game.

I loved it how people were all "RAAAAAGE" with MW2 about the same issue

but now that it is blizzard?
"no problem guys, here have 20$ extra, kotic I am your bitch use me in any way you like"

I kind of expected them to drop as we develop better tools and more automation...
I guess expectations are just rising faster than the technology can keep up.

Oh wow.

Ah well.

Actually we're parting with less and less cash because of inflation.

But nice try anyways.

I just love when people come and say "Id buy this game for 40. Not for 60 though".
I wonder how they are interested to play the game in the first place when paying a few bucks less would suddenly be worth it.

Blizzard games have to potential to stick you in front of your pc for MONTHS, let alone YEARS. If you totally hate their style/genre, do not buy it, fine. But 20 dollar difference to suddenly change a deal to a no-deal is kinda...dumb.

Just imagine a Shenmue fan saying: "Id buy Shenmue 3. Not for 80, though....yeah, for 60". My WTF-O-Meter is going crazy!

It really is a subjective sense of what is worth what...even if it's just a strong feeling based on history of a franchise and its developer, the type of game experience it will offer, or whatever. There just isn't any benefit or logic in trying to enforce some arbitrary hard 'n fast, one-size-fits-all rules for price and value. People will pay whatever they think a game is worth...just like buying anything else. If you want it for less, you'll wait for price drops and look for aggressive deals. If you don't really mind paying whatever for it, you will. Simple as that. And, yeah, like others have said, Diablo III is probably not going to hit until next year sometime...so, things are still up in the air...so, no reason to rage just yet.

Man, Activision. :/

srsly, it's fucking embarrassing.

As much as I hate Kotick, this is not really the same thing as the MW2 fiasco.

In that case, they were charging more for a downgraded product. As long as the quality matches the price, I have no problem paying. When publishers think they can get away with a sloppy console port selling for a premium so they can pocket the extra 10$ is when I have a problem.

Either way it's premature to get all worked up over a posted price on a retailer website for a game that likely won't be released for over 2 years.

Im loving all the outrage over the lack of outrage, the idea that some people might be willing to pay more for a game that think is worth the price over a game they think it didnt seems very hard to grasp for some people here.

Its the same thing, people that think the game is worth $60 will buy it at that price regardless of the lack of exclusive features, if they dont think its worth it they will just avoid the purchase until they think its worth it. Fuck "Sticking it to the man" I didnt get into gaming to make pointless rebelious statements.

Well, considering how much MW2 sold, even on PC, maybe they're just being honest this time?

Or, just maybe, this is a different set of people (Blizzard fans=! COD fans) and considering that - WoW Aside - we haven't seen a Blizzard game in nearly a decade, we just want to see Diablo 3 (And SC2) actually out?

Personally, I always go by £/hr when I buy my games, if I can see myself playing a game for a long long time, I will be happier paying full price. So if Diablo 3 is £40, and I play the game for the rest of time (I still like to play Diablo 1!), that makes the game cost me....

Wait, how do I divide £40 by infinity?
