Did anyone actually like Jet Set Radio Future?

Damn, I'm at home right now due to a comp day for working on the weekend and have to resist the urge to try to beat his time on the Dogenzaka Hill race. Watching it, I saw so many turns I could have cut better and jumps I could have hit better. But right now, my wife is babysitting and I don't think the kid in my living room who is asleep right now would want to be awoken with an "UNDERSTAND, UNDERSTAND!!!"

Do it at, the very least, he can listen to some great music....

I liked it. It controls much better then the first one that's for sure. I don't have to do those annoying "QTE" paint job things in the middle of being attacked by a helio. But the first one does have a better mission structure and feels like a much more focused game. Both are great though.

Pretty much my thoughts on both. I also felt that some of JSRF's "races" were actually more conducive to good racing levels, unlike the original.

But both are great games with different strengths. I don't get the hate for Future.

I loved JSRF and preferred it immensely to JSR/JGR. Certain aspects of graffiti-ying weren't as involved, but the game didn't feel as slow and laborious to me as JSR and it had a better soundtrack IMO.

Latch Bros FTW.

I once worked for a developer who pitched a wii version to Sega, where you had to hold the remote like a spray can, shaking it now and then... they didn't go for it.

Game was and remains utterly amazing, fact.

Super bonus points for being a very long and content filled game. So good.

I hope not.

Remaining respect for you gone. :3

Yeah, it was a more primitive version of Jet Set Radio,

If by, "primitive," you mean "made the gameplay better." Then, yes, it's very "primitive."

JSRF > JSR. If only because you didn't have the fuck about with spraying controls in addition to trying to land the grind while spraying.

I loved JSRF, but I didn't like how they closed you in when fighting the cops. It was so much better in JSR where the cops (or whoever) would raise in difficulty the more you painted the area. This one difference it why I like JSR better than JSRF, but JSRF was still great.

Damn I really miss this franchise. It would do great on the Vita with touchscreen controls for tricks and graffiti.

God this sucks.

Loved both games. The Sega games were the main reason I bought an Xbox. JSRF, Orta, GunVal and Shenmue 2, it really felt like the successor to the DC.

I freaking loved the game. It was amazing. Freaking wish they would make another. Everything about it!...man, brings back so many good memories. Loved it.

A brilliant game. Truly amazing. I put like 100 hours into it. So so so awesome. That, Shenmue 2 and Outrun2 were the only reason I ever played on my Xbox.

*Also, did anyone ever play the GBA version?
Same here, along with Gun Valkyrie and Panzer Dragoon Orta.I had the GBA version it was surprisingly close to the DC game in some ways, the even tried to keep the music.

It wasn't really "more primitive," it just had a different focus. Rather than time-attack stages, it was more of a leisurely roam through the environments. Beautiful game.

seconded.

If anything i felt JSRF was a more accomplished game.
JSR was more 'shallow' in comparison, much shorter and much smaller, with a focus on time attack and score attack. It was great too, maybe ultimately more fun, but in a different way which i don't particularly appreciate.
JSR is to JSRF what The Club is to GeOW...more or less.

Also, JSRF still looks plenty good on a sdtv at least.

Best fucking game. Birthday Cake and Allison was awesome too so deal with it haters.

I really should pick up a single copy of this game. I only have the SEGA GT 2002/JSRF bundle pack.

OT: How is the OG Xbox softmod scene? Is it possible to Install games to a HDD like the Wii & PS2?

While I did like Allison despite how everybody else hated it, I would have to equate Birthday Cake with Stockholm Syndrome.

See what I mean!?

I will literally pay the mods money to ban anyone who hates on JSRF. What a fucking cool game :lol My best friend from elementary school and I spent SO much time on the game, unlocking everything and finding all the hidden stuff. Man, the soundtrack was killer, too. One of my favorites.

Incredibly, it's the game that made me want an Xbox because I freaking loved JSR. I remember watching the trailer hundreds of time in my 8th grade computer class anxiously waiting for my birthday to get my Xbox. When I finally got it I really enjoyed it, not as much as JSR but it was still worthy of the Jet Set Radio name. Then one night a friend spent the night at my place and he brought a little game called Halo.

Both games had their own flaws and strong points. I remember struggling with the camera a lot in JGR. However the dumbing down of the graffiti mechanics really sucked in JSRF.

One thing I bet no one will argue is that this series has one of the best atmospheres of all time. I was obsessed with the world of this game when I was younger. The art style and the music just made it seem so damn cool. I doubt anything will ever make me feel like playing this game did as a young teen.

Yeah, they had great atmosphere.

Loved a lot about the game (music especially), except for the controls and a couple of cheap levels (looking at you Skyscraper level).

Still hold JSR in higher regard (mostly for controls), but this was a good sequel to a great series.

I think Jet Set Radio Future is actually a better game than Jet Set Radio in a lot of ways. Jet Set Radio has better level design and better music, but Jet Set Radio Future has immensely improved controls.

Speaking as somebody who played both games within the last year or so (infact, I just replayed Jet Set Radio on September 9th), the original JSR is an extremely sluggish game. Characters move slowly (even when dashing), and controlling where your jumps land can almost seem impossible at times. For a game that has a lot of jumping, the amount of air control you're afforded is practically zero.

Jet Set Radio Future is way, way, way better in this regard. Controls are much tighter, it's considerably easier to regain lost speed, and air control especially has been vastly improved. On that alone, it's far less frustrating and far more playable as a result.

If Sega did a third Jet Set Radio game that combined the best of both games, I would eat that shit up like nobody's business.

I like the lack of air control in JSR.

you must not like Makaimura much.

Oh god i loved the game. my dumb ass sold it though, don't think it was one of those games that was backwards compatible with the 360 though. :(
Music was great and the exploration for hidden stuff was awesome!

...damnit i want to play again

I love it. I keep seeing this boxart for Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters, whatever the hell that is, and having a moment of dyslexia in which I think JSRF is coming out on 360, then that's followed by crushing realisation.

I've done it about ten times now, I'm not even joking.

that logo font is hilarious

I loved it. I like it more than the original because the levels were huge and it didn't have a stupid time limit.

I actually kind of hated it the first time I played it. I wanted more of Jet Set Radio, and Future was far more of an adventure game than the comparatively arcade-y original. Eventually, I came to appreciate it for what it is... and I actually love the game now.

And yeah, that soundtrack is nuts.

Yeah, I prefer my games less focused and easier.
I'd rather have broken controls and having to pointlessly waggle a joystick around to accomplish something that should have been handled by pressing a button, myself.

I remember playing Jet Set Radio on Dreamcast and my friend and I were obsessed with it. I never had the opportunity to play JSRF but from the videos it does look like it was faithful to the original which would be a good thing considering the original was awesome!
