Did Nintendo stop manufacturing Wii's or something?

The end of February is approaching and I still can't find a Wii for sale anywhere, or at least, not in one of those $600 bundle packs (whoops, those are sold out too!)

Are they really that hard to find, or is my luck just that bad?

Frankly, where I live they are an f'n hassle to find. I work like most well educated people, a 7-3, 8-4. etc. job, and every time I went to or called a store I heard they same old story, "we got them in this morning, but they sold out in 2 hours." Luckily, yesterday I went to Best Buy at noon cause I was able to have a short day at work and they got some in. I, according to the guy that worked there, picked up the last one.

In short, yes, it's difficult to pcik one up right now. NES ships them, but the demand is higher than what they're being released at. Most of the stores I was checking only get a few in a time, and even the bigger the stores that get 10+ in a shpment sellout in hours. It's nuts.

Wii's just a holiday fad, didn't you hear? There are so many piling up in stores that they can't afford to make any more. Too bad for them.

Since this thread is awful, my contribution is that you should have written "Wiis" not "Wii's".

Your thread title reads "Did Nintendo stop manufacturing Wii is or something?".

I mean you don't write "I'm sick of all the lame-ass thread's on GAF today" now do you?

didn't you get the memo? Wii production was halted because they were selling too many. You see it's simple supply/demand. you demand it, and they don't have supply. It makes you want nintendo real bad.

I was all ready to go  on your post, but that was a nice touch.

also: artificial demand.

You have to show up at the right time basically. I was at a Miejer the other night, and was roaming the Videogame department hoping to find another damn nunchuck(Okay now, WTF Nintendo. I can understand the console, I can even kinda understand the wiimote. But the damn nunchuck? PRODUCE MORE FFS ALREADY) and I was talking to the guy about videogames in general. I asked if he had any Wii anything, and he laughed and told me about how he stocked 16Wii's the night previous at Midnight, and by 1230 all of them were gone.

You just have to find out when they are getting them, and show up when they stock. Maybe an out of the way store will have one shoved behind some crap.

BTW, is there a damn nunchuck finder website?

Every time I go anywhere selling video games, without fail, no matter what day or what time of day, someone will ask an employee if they have any Wiis in stock while I walk by. It's like a running gag.

do the employees answer with 'no, but we have PS3's available' ?

weak, sorry - but it fits the running gag theme at least.

People were saying this same thing all last month, and the thing sold 436k units. You're just not trying hard enough.

I actually make a point to ask about the availability of the two consoles every time I walk into a game store. It's mainly so I can keep an up to date perspective of what is really going on in the stores instead of reading it all the time.

Hint:
PS3s in stock, Wiis not

Now that I think about it, that means 436 thousand different people were luckier than the OP last month. Talk about unlucky :/

I realise that, I was just making a joke
a bad one to boot :(
. The demand is simply overwhelming for Nintendo, especially since they're dividing their shipments more equally to the three major territories than companies have done so in the past.

I saw at least 3 being sold at a Best Buy last night. One was on the shelf for a while, but I already have mine. I saw someone pick it up later.
Then I made $1200 and bought Lunar Knights. Good times. Good times.

My EBgames gets about 5 each week during a random day. When they do get them, they're sold out 30 mins after the store opens.

So yeah...I can't get one.

I know you were joking! :)

100% agreed on how crazy it is that they are evenly distributing across NA, Japan and Europe. The other systems are extremely different stories in this regard.

People enjoy trolling your ears.

Nice. Finally something useful.

I was quite shocked at how hostile the Nintendo fan responses were, even to a prospective Wii buyer. Must be force of habit, eh?

"Simmer down, sirs."
It's just GAF. Don't mind us.

:lol I have yet to see any of that money. :(

How is Lunar Knights?

When I bought Sonic today at TRU in Atwater Village, (Los Angeles) the employee told me that they got 120 Wii's in stock last sunday, and that becuase of the pouring rain they lasted for almost four hours. Demand faltering, I'd say. ;)

Actually, sometimes in the case of proper nouns (especially concerning specific brands) it is okay to use an apostrophe, despite not being a contraction nor indicating the possessive.

Haha I was there on Monday when they were pulling the homeless couple out of the river.

Too bad I wasn't there a day earlier. :(

Is Wii supposed to change when made plural? I see a lot of press reports where they refer to a number of units but don't add a suffix. Essentially making it a non-count noun.

Nintendo says when referring to multiple wii you say Wii Consoles. So really Wii is single or multiple

All brand names are "non-count nouns."

5 PlayStation 2 consoles
10 XBOX 360 units
3 Wii systems

etc., etc.

Be at the right place at the right time. That's basically it.

Basically. I walked into the Babbages at our mall jokingly asking if they had a Wii. I had been searching for several weeks before at various locations with no luck.

They had 1 left :D

It felt strangely awesome hearing other customers run up asking for a Wii only to be DENIED. It's weird that it made me so happy....

It's funny, I see DS's pretty often at most retailers I go to despite the complaints on availability here, but the only Wii I've seen outside of my own since launch is the one I have.

Yeah, the major DS shortage of early January seems to be pretty much over. I hope the PSP enjoyed its rather close look at the DS's ass in January, as that will be the closest it gets for sometime.

:lol It's just that this is like the 10th thread of this type, and the same advice is always given. However, this one had the misfortune to arrive after the NPD numbers, so we actually have concrete evidence that things haven't become a trickle in the new year as some imagined.
