Did the PS3 version of MGS3 (hd collection) ever get its frame rate patched?

I just played through MGS3 on 360 and was experiencing some weird frame rate issues after playing for a while. Everything was like slow motion and the game was pretty much unplayable. I had to turn off the 360 and turn it back on for the effect to go away and the game speed to return to normal.

Not sure if OP is experiencing the same thing or not. When the game is playing normal, it's pretty close to a solid 60 fps for me.

The framerate goes to shit during alert phase in certain areas. Just played through the PS3 version the past week.

It doesn't actually skip frames, but it literally runs in slow motion.

It runs fine when sneaking around though.

I've not seen a single slowdown at any point on my Legacy collection in MGS3, my only complaint with the HD Collection is that the goddamn splitter facepaint isn't using new textures, it's like the one facepaint they forgot, drives me crazy.

Yeah but dropping from 60 to 40 isn't terrible when compared to the original release and in no way would make it seem like snake is moving in slow motion as the OP states.

MGS3 HD does play in slow motion when the framerate drops. That's an unarguable fact. Groznyj Grad's outdoor areas, Volgin's electricity and the flowers in Rokovoj Bereg all cause slowdown; not just framerate drops, actual slowdown. The final bossfight is particularly bad for this.

I imagine it's due to the game's internal logic being tied to the framerate in the original version, or something like that, which Bluepoint wasn't able to get past. Their Metal Gear HD Collection is like 99% perfect, with a few unfortunate niggling problems (Codec calls lagging, slowdown in 3, missing Snake's Nightmare, that kind of thing). The Dual Shock 3's face buttons are much 'clickier' than the Dual Shock 2's were, which makes the pressure-sensitive shooting controls a real pain in the HD Collection, though you can always just unequip your gun to put it away without firing (how did they get around that on the 360 version, out of interest?).

Despite all that, they're still by far the best way of playing the games, though. You could make an argument for the PS2 version of MGS2, since that game still looks amazing and that gorgeous sloshy rain on the Tanker doesn't quite translate to 720p, but MGS3 benefits so much from the higher framerate (and with Peace Walker they actually tripled the original framerate :P). I just hope the Collection makes its way to PC one of these days, because I'm sure you could cure that slowdown with brute force.

It slows down so bad. Seriously. You easily see the game time slowing down when more than 2 enemies are on screen and some action kicks in. At several points it happens even while there aren't any action as well. The one and only (?) patch for this game on ps3 takes it to 1.03, but that's only related to the transfarring feature if I remember correctly. This issue is one of the biggest arguments as to why Bluepoint should not be handed the task of making HD ports of old games.

uh what?
the only issues in that port are when volgin uses lightning in cutscenes
its rock solid everywhere else, for the most part

What's interesting is that, the Vita version is actually pretty good in the end. It's capped at 30fps instead of 60 but, from what I recall, it holds that frame-rate very consistently. With the PS3 and 360 suffering from slowdown, the Vita never had a chance to run this at 60fps so a solid 30 makes sense and it's still much much smoother than the original PS2 version.

I played a lot of MGS3 in its various forms. It's not like the PS3 version is anything close to unplayable, but I don't know what's up with the wave of responses on the first page acting like there weren't performance quirks. I remember slowdown, depending on the scene/action going on.

Uhhh the vita slows down crazy from Volgin and has slowdown At times during gameplay it was the main reason that led me to buying a PS3 last week. PS3 gets slowdown is n Grozny Grad, especially the inner area where you need to find Raikov, it's not franerate issues, but the game itself actually slows down

No it really isn't. It has consistent slowdowns in numerous areas and situations.

This is sadly so true. The swamp just after meeting Eva is a good example. Make it past the lake to the electrified fence and it slows down to the extent that it's just silly. Snake and everyone else runs in slow motion. Instead of having about 0.5 seconds between each step he takes it takes about 2 seconds for each foot to reach the ground.

Lol no. Slowdowns occur elsewhere in the game.

Also, the amount of defensive fanboys in this thread is laughable (though OP is exaggerating with "at no point is it 60fps").

I recall it had some when I recently played but it was never bad enough to effect the game really. I thought MGS4 was more noticeable with it's slowdown.

I'd say altering game time/game speed or whatever you want to call it is as bad as it can get. Ruins timings for input. Ruins your own skills etc.
