Digital Board Games Thread: Async Multiplatform Meeples

I spent 3 hours getting an emulator with play store on it because my iPad 2 can't keep up with it lol. Kinda neat you can purchase things with earned gold but if you want things in a reasonable amount of time get the bundle. Finishing prologue and adventure 1 only got me like 2000 gold so if you were f2p you would have 3 playable characters! (Two of them free lol)

Sometime when I'm (trying) playing Twilight Struggle I feel like I should be wearing The Ledgerman's cap. Any tutorials out there for dummies like myself on strategy?

It is a bit overwhelming and whenever I play I always feel like every option I choose will lead to disaster. I'm at -10 as USA in RD6 against the AI at the moment.

If you can grab the newest version of the rules PDF for the physical edition it has a walk through of the first few rounds of an actual game.

The Twilight Strategy site has a lot of posts you might find useful.

I'm probably going to get lost in there at lunchtime again :)

Thank you!

Yeah, that Twilight Strategy site can be a good reference. But you won't really pick stuff up until you try to put it in action in live games. No real substitute for playing a lot of games from both sides.

I think I've gotten every possible win in online games so far - autovictory, final scoring, Europe control (this actually happened in Final Scoring, so I got both of that at once in the same game), wargames, and forfeit.

Asking for +10 for the US is beyond insane, LOL.

I guess it's because there is the OT that it's very active, but I'm surprised there isn't more love towards Pathfinder here too.
Despite some bugs (notably quest mode) it's phenomenal, personally it dethroned all my other fav digital board games and deck building games.

It's so good (and very very generous in its model).

Thanks! Played halfway through the tutorial mission but I must have skipped some guidance somewhere because I'm not quite sure how to get to the big bad. It's 'weird' to me that you can close locations and then re-open them? Did this by accident a few times hahah. Seems well done, though I don't know how the IAPs are implemented. Also personal preference but I find serious generic fantasy insanely boring so probably won't play around in this too much.

Hmmmm you can't 'reopen' a location?

If you aren't familiar with the game (the tutorial isn't that great IMHO) I highly recommend watching this video.
It's a bit longish, but after watching it Pathfinder won't have any more secret.

Also, many suggestions in the OT:

Thanks!

D'oh, two timeouts in Twilight Struggle. I was taking basically daily turns but I don't think I can hack the 7d timer. Definitely need the longer one to confidently get through a game.

Yeah, unless you can check in daily 45d is the better option.

So I just got my Surface Pro 4 and want to install some board games to play. I've got Warhammer Quest (which is still one of my favorites), and will be buying Twilight Struggle. What other games would you guys suggest that work well solo? I have Talisman, just need to install it.

Elder Sign: Omens
Pathfinder
BattleLore

Is Pathfinder out on Steam yet? I don't see it.

Oh sorry, no.
Later this year I'm reading, out only on iOS and Android so far.

But keep an eye on that...the 'just one more quest to grab some loot' factor is pretty similar to the Warhammer Quest one while different games (WHQ still one of my fav games too).

Will do.

Are there any other games that have a similar feel or vibe to WHQ out?

Not really, but Rodeo following game (Deathwatch) was similar (WH40K setting).

But Warhammer Quest, for a number of reasons, was pretty unique (and I still play it despite over 300 hours and 3 complete succeful runs at hardcore).

White Wizard games has released another deckbuilder - Cthulhu Realms!

It's only out for Android at the moment, but iOS to soon follow along with, from what I can tell in game, a PC and Mac version to follow eventually. 4.99 to unlock all content across all devices including the full campaign and online play. Free to try and play with, though.

It's not as automatic as Star Realms, from the little I've played thus far, but the art and mechanics look great, some of the same from Ascension and Star Realms and some new stuff too.

On another note, but still on topic, I'm also still loving Star Realms (thank YOU for the continuing series of games, Czar Tim!) and am also really really digging the depth and variety in Pathfinder Adventures.

Yeah noticed that release on Twitter! I actually have the tabletop and it's interesting that it does feel a decent deal more complex than Star Realms. Maybe just because I'm not used to the actions yet. Will be easy in a few days I'm sure. Art is top-notch though and so is the implementation.

Cathulu Realms is great! I'm usually not a big fan of Lovecraftian theme game as I find it really heavy and stressful. Cathulu Realms is fun and light-hearted. Even the story makes fun of itself. I think I prefer this over Star Realms TBH.

The artstyle really reminds me of the first Plant vs Zombies PC game.

Twilight Struggle should be at the very top. ;P

Quite a bunch of new releases that's not in the OP. However, maintaining OP to contain every game sounds like a full time job to me LOL.

Honorable mention: Steam, Brass, Patchwork, Tsuro, Splendor, Cathulu Realm, Pathfinder, Galaxy Trucker.

Also, Castle of Mad King Ludwig is coming out this week. 7 Wonders is coming out within the next century as well.

Haha yeah. I'll try to get around to it but wife + 2 kids + job get in the way. :P If someone wanted to make a new thread that's cool by me too!

To the earlier recommendations, I generally stay away from digital-native games even if they're board-like. It would make the universe just huge since card games are such cash cows and this thread I intended to be more about here's where you can play these cool tabletop games digitally. Probably messed that up along the way or just added stuff b/c people asked but honestly never liked those dens of IAP. Personal bias. :P

Really want to try out Castles of Mad King Ludwig but it keeps crashing on me. :/ (iPad Air 2, so not used to having issues with games)

It's been working on my iPhone 5c. Got past the training and the first campaign mission. It's a well done app. Works fine on a phone despite the lowered screen real estate.

Looks like there's a fix up. Stoked because I own the game but haven't learned it yet and I LOVE Suburbia (though don't get to play it as much as I'd like).

Castles is a very solid app. I think it is the type of boardgame I would never get to play, so glad to have a chance.

Now ticket to ride. Anybody else get the new european expansion for free notice but still have them locked?

Road to Legend is pretty neat. It's a digital companion Fantasy Flight put out for Descent Journeys in the Dark 2nd Edition. Add's more coop content

Throwback here but I just wanna say the Ithaqua mission in Elder Sign is complete and utter BS.

:))))

I LOVE it!!!
So harsh! Especially if you don't cope with wolves early and you aren't packed with provisions.
Be sure to have a lot of hmmm...how they call those...the magnifying glass icon items before the last fights!

All I remember is even when I was overflowing with provisions I still didn't have enough because there was an event that basically reset you.

Yeah if you beat it lmk how, esp. which team. Right now I'm using guy who turns terrors into skulls, girl who turns items into yellow+red, girl who gets y+r in other worlds, and guy who turns y into anything (except terror..bleh). I have gone to the wilderness with 20-25 provisions but still crap out in some way (though I have made it to the boss a few times). What probably gets me the most is that all the missions are super hard so you can be playing and building up for 15-20m and then all of a sudden just get wrecked by a few draws that start locking your dice and spawning midnight effects.

I almost use always the same team, I've beaten all the campaigns with them several times.
Actually just beaten Itaqua again, best ending too :P

Sister Mary as first (for locked glyphs)
Joe Diamond
Mandy Thompson
Gloria Goldenberg (for outer worlds)

When I can I try to get clues whenever possible.

Always go for Elder Signs unless there are nasty midnight effects, like in Itaqua for monsters respawns.
As soon as I have 10-15 provisions, I try the ice map, praying for some provisions along the way.
