I just don't get the constant penis battle about power. Everyone knows the ps4 is more powerful. There has to be a more powerful console. It would be weird if they were completely identical. Yet people claim we should string up ms for the weaker console. Would we be stringing up Sony If theirs was weaker? It didn't get you anywhere. There literally has to be a less powerful console. I just laugh at some of these comments now. People are funny

On topic tho. Resolution doesn't impact my enjoyment if a game. Mario kart looks better than anything on my 55 inch brava. That's 720p. I don't get it

I think that's probably the thing I want to see the most.

It's pretty obvious that resolution doesn't change the intrinsic enjoyment of a game but I think the same can be said for a wide variety of things. It does however effect enjoyment a bit. Just like graphics, just like a stable FPS, just like the presentation of a game, just like a wide variety of non-gameplay oriented things that go into the making of a game.

Is is ridiculous, there is always going to be a weaker console in a generation, its impossible for there not to be one. Unless they colluded and made exactly the same system, but what the hell would be the point of that. There are reasons to prefer one company over an other but acting like a marginal power difference is some massive error and betrayal is just silly.
 
Dark10x, try not to let this get to you. As much as I think you are very straightforward and open with your comments, it is a dead end trying to cover off DF related topics really - sometimes you're better off avoiding confrontation (and even then it'll find you if you aren't careful)

Please don't stop posting the stuff you post, many of us find it genuinely interesting.

Well here is great example for u Bayonetta 2 had massive frame rate drops running at an average of 45fps yet hardly anybody complained here, many thought it was a solid 60FPS and it didn't effect there enjoyment of the game, it easily won goty here. so I'm sure 900p won't bother most people much once they start enjoying the game it will easily forgotten.

I would argue a lack of AA has hurt quite a few Wii U games unfortunately and Mario Kart's artstyle is arguably ruined because of that defect.

People care about power, graphics, and visuals either on console or on PC. It definitely has always played into a segment of the market's purchasing decisions no matter how small.

I think mostly people in this thread are rankled at the though of someone supposedly tech savvy going out of his way to dismiss that based on a Nielson survey, and then bringing up the 'fun' angle, as if people can't have fun and look for decent hardware/technicals at the same time.

It isn't as important as some people in this thread make it out to be in knee jerk reactions. But yes it is important. More important however is IQ (of which Resolution is an important part) and Frame rate. I would settle for 900p if everything was 60FPS, it just looks so much crisper and more fluid in general.

So let's forget about resolution being the main issue of these two, and focus on framerate, another advantage for the PS4 I am sure, but at least one that matters a lot more to me :D.

The thing is Xbox One was made weaker in order to have Kinect bundled with each system and to have those non gaming focused features built.

Don't you have to manually disconnect from XBL/your network connection to prevent it forcefully updating before launching the game?

Well, yea I mean that's undeniable. Even on GAF, some people just don't have an eye for that sort of stuff.

But I could easily tell that Bayo 2 was dropping frames. In fact, it was so noticeable that I thought it was dropping FPS more then Bayo 1 ever did. That turned out to be faulty memory at work though (since I had played Bayo 1 so long ago) because when I popped in Bayo 1, the FPS dips were drastic and extremely noticeable.

But again, I enjoyed my time with Bayo 2 tremendously and might give it GOTY. However, there is absolutely no doubt that I would have enjoyed Bayo 2 more if it was locked 60 or locked 60 and higher resolution. That's what I was trying to get at. Resolution and the other graphical features obviously don't effect the intrinsic enjoyment of the game, however it can add or detract from it.

My counter example would be Dragons Dogma on PS3. The game is one of my favorites, tied with Dark Souls as GOTG last generation. However, the inconsistent FPS clearly hurts the game along with the blurred look.

The game at a locked FPS with higher resolution would actually increase my enjoyment considerably, given the underlying gameplay mechanics.

Well yeah, but the point was that you can still notice larger resolutions on smaller screens. It becomes diminishing returns at some point, of course.

I'm curious. If people care so much about 1080p, why don't they just build a PC? Or even just buy an off the shelf pc. I'll never get it, xbone and ps4 are (to me) weak ass consoles. 1080p might look great, but the beauty runs in sixty frames.

Yea I saw Df thread it was discussed, and debated, but after it came out, only a handful of posters complained about the frames drops in the OT. many were saying how smooth it was and didn't really effect there enjoyment of the game.
 
Variable 60fps is always going to be an issue with some people and not others. Some said Tomb Raider's PS4 'variable 60' made them sick and they could not stand to play it anymore. While others like you say, take Bayonetta's variable sixty and dont see an issue. It depends on the person, but its hardly a case of not mattering.

Because even if you dismiss the people who are 'console gamers' and have no interest in PC. You also on the flip side have the PC gamers buying consoles for exclusives who are used to higher res having their eyes burned by sub FHD resolutions with weak AA, AF and who knows what else

Consoles are easier and everyone gets a similar experience. There is solidarity in that and makes online multiplayer more fair I think. Also, until recently not many hooked up their PCs to a big screen. People also enjoy the consoles online infrastructure, friends lists and chat. Also achievements and other social functions. PC definitely has a place, especially for RTS, but consoles are just easier. I'd love to get a good gaming PC though.

Yea, and that point is dependant on the TV size, and the distance the user is viewing it from, along with the resolution itself. So that statement really isn't BS.

My TV has a native resolution of 1080p. I want my consoles to offer native 1080p.

I agree with everything you said. I love my bone for the ease of friends, achievements etc. but if I'm dead set on having the best quality of fps or res, I would,which I just did, uprgrade or buy a PC. I wanna go off the limb and say the people who are bitching are only a one console owner. And that's bs.

I upgraded my PC instead of buy an Xbox One, it just felt right for me.

But PS4 has so many games I can't play on PC and they are not just first party games. It doesn't matter horsepower if the games you want to play are not there.
 
It was important last gen when xbox 360 games were native 720 and the PS3 wasn't, but now that it's the xbox that is lower resolution, suddenly resolution doesn't matter.

I don't think people really care that the x1 is weaker. For me personally it's the reason why it's weaker. All the focus on things I couldn't careless about like kinect and snapping stuff. X1 would have been a complete beast if that money went towards gaming hardware.

Makes you wonder how it'll be the next round, if the next Xbox is more powerful than the PS5. I kinda suspect the articles would return to the last gen's form.

Thing is the overwhelming majority were not complaining, sure it matters but the majority said it didn't bother them, and this is a neogaf. Just pointing how silly the article is, cause in real life most people don't care, Df is made for the picky gamer that wants the best console version.

The only game which has remotely interested me in PC gaming in the last several years is Elite Dangerous.
There is nothing else about PC gaming that even interests me.

I have a PC which was fairly high spec when I built it a several years ago. I remember playing Company of Heroes on it. It still has XP on it and I haven't turned it on for probably more than 3 years.

I still like technology and I still want my console of choice to be the best choice available.

I wasn't interested in Kinect or HDMI pass thru. I am interested in the best graphical performance which meant migrating from Xbox 360 to PS4.

I don't want a PC. That's it. It's not a cost thing in any way shape or form, I'm just not interested. I prefer the lifestyle convenience of a console. I enjoy getting games like Bloodborne.

Building a first time PC costs a bit more, there's an entrance fee for sure, but once you have a rig set up you usually only have to replace your parts one at a time. I just switched out motherboard, cpu ram and GPU and it cost me about $400 and I'm fairly certain my rig is more capable than the Xbone and the PS4. (Mainly going by maxing out newer games that manage to run better than the PS4 versions). Couple that with how much cash you can save on digital deals and yeah. Not gonna get a console any time soon.

What most people forget is that PC gaming just isn't for everyone, having to deal with replacing various components might be considered something that's just not ideal, easier to set up a console I suppose.
 
DF spent time trying to establish themselves as a go-to place for graphical comparisons, who would nitpick the smallest of details, and now they want to start saying that doesn't matter anymore.

They are bound to lose readership as it seems like they've lost their direction.
