Digital Foundry: Face-Off - Wolfenstein: The New Order

I'm not trolling guys.

It was a serious comment... I'm avoiding every non 1080p game from the new systems... I played BF4 on PS3 due this restriction and I will do the same with Watch Dogs.

Every non-1920x1080p game I will buy on old gen consoles.

I expect to not do that this gen but I was forced because the games are not reaching this level.

It is my money after all ;)

This makes absolutely no sense what so ever! But more power to you i guess o_O

Alternatively, just force 16x AF through console and never worry about it again.

I addressed the console in the very post you quoted. From comments in the PC performance thread it seems that the game resets the AF value every time the megatextures are re-initiated.

Edit: If you're referring to forcing AF through drivers, see my previous post. My point wasn't "Higher AF can't be reliably forced so it shouldn't be considered".

I was really expecting parity between both PS4 and XBO for this game. No such thing, so I guess the trend continues....

Can't wait for the Watch_Dogs face-off....

I admire a man who stands by his principles - at the same time, one shouldn't cut off their own nose to spite their face. Avoiding a game outright is one thing, but choosing the lesser version because the better version doesn't run perfectly.... :)

This runs at 1920x1080 most of the time. I'd take dynamic resolution @ 60fps over famerate drops or a consistant 900p, the other two compromises we tend to see.

Hope for you they will support the old consoles for a long time or you will only be able to play indi titles. (or buy a pc)

Why would you expect that? the memory and video card are weaker so unless there is a unbelievable lazy dev X1 wil always be (slightly) behind

If we're really anything below 1920x1080p is sub HD but the marketing girls and boys got 720p to be recognised as HD sooooo anything below 720p is sub HD now.

sub-HD is anything less than 720p - that is 1280x720.

Right, but 576i is standard, so anything above that is beyond SD...
So we call higher than SD, but lower than 720p Standard Def?

That seems odd. I would personally consider anything above SD to be HD, just not 'full HD', that being why that term seems poor for measuring.

But WHY? It just makes no sense that the PS4 version of a game not being completely optimal would make you prefer getting an even worse version. Really, no sense at all.
If I buy a expensive machine then I have a quality level to maintain... it is the same to say if you have a horse power car and just drive it at 60mph... I will want over 100mph.

I bought my PS4 to give to me the 1920x1080p that PS4 era missed... to be fair I expected this gen to even ahead but well they choose to stay on 1920x1080p limit (sad)... so I won't give my money to support sub-1920x1080 games... it is my own decision... nobody needs to follow.

Might as well just buy a PC if you strive for 1080p everything.
I don't like PC :( so much trouble to play games.

Hope for you they will support the old consoles for a long time or you will only be able to play indi titles. (or buy a pc)
I just will miss games... I'm fine with that... I never played all games in any generation... they just will make my choice easy.

@eveybody else... I won't reply to everybody because we are getting offttopic here... it is my own decision and the games that didn't reach my own quality level will be out of my list or I will play then on old consoles... I don't thing the gamers that accept that are wrong but I don't thing I'm wrong too... personal differences... it don't need to make sense to everybody but needs to fit my preferences... I won't support sub-1920x1080p games own my "next-gen" platform.

Why? Were the devs touting parity?

The devs promised 1080p60 on both consoles (never claimed parity as far as I can recollect). Technically even 960x1080 and 1760x1080 are 1080p. It is kinda disingenuous since they didn't talk about the dynamic resolutions, but that's not something which can be explained easily to the layman. Personally I would have preferred locked 1920x1080 at 30 fps with extra bells and whistles (AA, better effects, more light sources, better material shaders, etc.) particularly since it is a single player only game. There should be an option to turn off the noise filter (film grain effect).

Is there a way to turn of the auto aim and cross hairs (ps4) auto aim really pisses me of.
Any way OT the game does run very well surprised how fast it felt when first playing it, it does look quite bad sometimes but that's fine when its a solid 60 which is the most important thing for a fps like this.

But you realise you're giving your money supporting a game that is sub 720p right?

And your speed analogy is weird too, since it's like having a Ferrari, but you're choosing to drive a crappy fiat punto instead.

Does not compute.

So we call higher than SD, but lower than 720p Standard Def?

Well, 480p/576p is called ED (Enhanced Definition). Guess you could go with that for everything lower than 720p, instead of "sub-HD".

You won't spend your money on sub-1080p games for PS4, but you'll happily spend it on far, far worse PS3 versions of the same games? Still makes no sense. To each his own I guess, but I think you're being slightly insane.

It's like declining sex from a hot girl with sharp knees, and banging her ugly smelly obese sister instead.

I'm giving my money to a game released in a platform that is supposed to not reach 1920x1080p. I'm fine with games in 720p or so in old-gen but not for new/current gen.

The Punto give me the 60mph... I won't use my Ferrari to drive at 60mph... I don't want to use my PS4 to play sub-1920x1080p games.

Each to there own but your gonna miss out on some very good experiences because of this.

Without the DF article you probably would have never ever noticed that the resolution is dynamic. Also isn't it arbitrary to just set 1080p as the mark? Why not boycott all 30fps games as well?

seriously can't believe what i just read. instead of playing games for oh i dont know...game play some gamers are more worried about resolution?!? so to protest they play the less inferior resolution version even though they want the max resolution from said game???

i can not wait to show members at work this logic.

But this game isn't even 720p on PS3. Why did you suddenly develop standards/principles with PS4 games where you had/have non in regards to PS3?

ethomaz, it is your decision in the end and we're not here to question it.

It's just your reasoning that baffles most of us.

On topic, it's pretty scary that at times there's a huge resolution disparity in TNO between the two consoles, I was even starting to warm up to the Xbone but multiplats seem to suffer on it from a technical standpoint

Tons of people on GAF / Online seem more bothered about the resolution or the texture quality than if the game is any good. Really sad these people call themselves gamers.

This shouldn't bother you if you only have an Xbox One.

thats the problem here....they aren't gamers. they fell for the media resolution war thats going on. the only reason why this is happening is because everyone thought that MS was going to go all out and spend big bucks on xbone. when sony came out with the better spec console and cheaper the media jumped all over it because it was easy coverage on a per basis AAA game.

if DF never existed then these gamers would have no idea what these engines are operating at.

That analogy still makes no sense. If you set up an arbitrary limit, you will never use it. You can have a better experience but you are saying "no I want a worse experience cause I'm not getting the best experience" you might be a masochist.

I'm fine with that ;) I know I will miss games or play them in old platforms but it was my decision before the gen started.

Guys, just move on... I didn't know a simple opinion can cause so much buzz ;)

Better hope games like Arkham Knight don't let you down, since it's PS4/XB1/PC only.

BTW, Wolfenstein is 1920x1080 on PS4 probably about 99% of the time. Kind of silly to avoid the game because of that.

This has to be one of the dumbest things I've read in comparison threads. People who are interested in technical issues aren't gamers? Good lord.

I think its great people know how a game performs even someone who has no technical knowledge can see/tell a very bad running. If its terrible to the point of unplayable it will save people money or hassle of finding the best version they can get, nothing wrong with informing the uninformed.
