Digital Foundry Jedi Survivor PC Review

Here We Go Again GIF

I like this game a lot. But why is it so ugly and has so extreme Hardware Appetite at the same time? And i am playing it on 1080p Ultra Settings.

I like this Youtube comment:

"The worst PC port of 2023 is a heck of an achievement! The competition is fierce."

  • Menu has graphical options that don't explain what they do or their performance impact
  • Mouse controls don't seem to properly work navigating the menu
  • Game compile shaders on every boot there there are shader compilation stutters every time
  • Also awful traversal stutters
  • Toggling options on and off can sometimes tank the fps, forcing you to relaunch the game
  • On a 4090, or any system, it's basically impossible to run this game properly without massive performance lurches
  • Impossible to lock to 60fps no matter the resolution or settings
  • FSR looks terrible and always leaves a ghostly smear on the character when moving
  • Poor CPU utilization no matter what you do, resulting in subpar performance
  • Toggling settings on or off barely does anything as you're heavily CPU-bound, but the CPU is barely utilized
  • Unfinished and broken
  • Worse than Gotham Knights
  • Alex is about to cry
  • Port sucks

I'm second guessing Armored Core already.

If that arrives broken as well then I'm done. It's probably the game I'm most looking forward to for the rest of the year along with Final Fantasy and BG3 (although I know BG3 already runs well on PC hardware thanks to early access).

I want Digital Foundry to do a worst top 10 video every now and then. Just so everyone and the developers know that releasing rubbish ports gets them into the hall of shame.

Who's next?
Wait, among those games, I'm pretty sure only TLOU and Jedi Survivor were broken at launch. All the others performed poorly on every platform as I recall. They were all playable from start to finish but just looked and ran badly.

Yes! Finally good to see DF going in hard against these poor ports.

Yeah, I'm no fan of DF, really. But more pro-Consumer stuff like this that doesn't pull punches and makes them more a Consumer Reports-style outlet is precisely where they should focus their efforts.

Less speculation and ass-kissing; more "this is pure garbage and don't buy it."

Imagine putting in the herculean effort of making a AAA game with a good story and fun game play and then totally ruin the experience behind horrible performance. It's like falling in front of the finish line. Such waste of time and effort.

I heard there a hidden graphics settings that make your game render at 50% native res at low settings , and 100% res at epic settings .

6800XT here but yeah. I'm actually thinking about selling the GPU and leave PC gaming for good. It's getting annoying.

I don't get it, it's not like the consoles are exactly offering stellar performance here or in any of the other games that have released broken this year (with the exception of TLOU).

Can't say about the other games on this list, but I played Hogwart's Legacy on a PS5 3 days before launch.

It was a near-perfect experience.

If I recall correctly, most of these games ran very good on the PS5.

Sell GPU because of hitches but at least good image quality to this…

Big brain move

The performance on PS5 isn't stellar but it's better than the PC port. Same happened with Calisto Protocol and Hogwards Legacy at launch. I'm just tired of shader compilation issues and AAA PC ports. It just isn't worth the money anymore, imo.

I havent played Star Wars yet, but Wild Hearts was the worst, way worse than TLOU imo. Like more than twice as bad for me. 20-30 stutters per minute, below 60fps. Definitely not playable from start to finish (just like wo long with keyboard, but whatever). Whereas i finished the last of us the first week at 80-100 ultra, just with textures on medium/low (it made my CPU cry though).

That's only when you go way above consoles setting is that you start getting these issues, if you downgrade PC settings, frame rate and IQ to those on console or a little above you're mostly or absolutely free of issues unless the port is completely broken like TLOU which has problems beyond performance.

In most games having issues at launch you disable RT, cap frame rate to 60 (which is most of the time still way above consoles) and not do things like forcing ultra wide and you're set to play still better than on consoles.

Worst pc port? Nonsense. Tlou will not be topped for a while. Completely unplayable at launch on 8-10 gb cards with massive stutters and crashes. 2 hour long shader compilation. Stutters in the single digits. Broken medium textures that made it look like a ps2 game.

This game has bad performance and a stutter right at the start of the game is hilarious, but overall it's in much better shape than tlou.
