I miss the Soul Nomad/Makai Kingdom days of risk taking.

they were trying the branching out stuff more recently to mixed results. zhp became guided fate paradox. battle princess arcadias and htol#niq: the firefly diary are also attempts at new kinds of games (for them). none of those are srpgs though.

i really liked soul nomad too. i wish that had been more warmly received.

we still get games like Z.H.P. or the god one whose name is escaping me and various other spin offs on the psp. aka they mostly experiment on the handhelds, and play it safe on the consoles at this point bringing successful experiments to the consoles.

I don't really disagree when it comes to the disgaea series but at the same time disgaea 3 was quite a bit different from 2 gameplay wise... there is a decent chance 5 will be decently changed again (we will have to wait and see) they aren't going to make it a radically different game though as it's their biggest series.

edit: man I don't even think I have ever heard kawaii so many times in a 30 second window before lol.

personally I hope they never go to 3d models.
especially if they decide to go with chibi models... as that would potentially get me to stop buying one of my favorite video game series as chibi 3d models make me want to vomit :/

I'm finding it hard to imagine how they could go 3D myself. They'll have to ask Gust or Arc System Works for help. Unless they can reproduce the feel of the sprites while making them 3D, they shouldn't bother.

That's... not bad actually. I don't mind chibi but if they can keep the sprite propotions, it could look great.

Agreed. 3D chibi models are a huge turn off for me.
