Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

f6c6d5f13554b1e2a69f371833c1560c

mine disappeared, or do I have to literally type it in? Hopefully it's not a retarded question

Mouse smoothing thing? Line should be there, but if it isn't you can just add it.

Well that made a huge difference lol. Is that ultra textures? 6gb of vram?

Ultra textures yeah and 980Ti has 6GB of VRAM.

Pre-rendered setting has interesting impact on VRAM and CPU usage. Could be also game doing something weird with caching data. When I took "No setting" pic I had moved around in the map little, but "With setting" shot is without me moving at all.

This is the kind of shit that made me buy a Pro. Maybe I'm getting old but I'm tired of having to spend hours tweaking every new PC release to get it to run straight.

Someone on reddit said that changing it 0 gets reverted back to 1 when in-game, may have to set the file to read me in that case.

Stayed in "0" state for me. Started game twice since changing value. Still setting file to Read-Only is good measurement if you want to play it safe.

Edit: Also possible it gets swapped from 0 => 1 if you change in-game settings.

So the 9gb patch was included with the steam download? I hope they release another one soon.

Feels sluggish at the moment, controller wise and performance wise. Still playable but could be better.

Gotcha. Does it make a noticeable difference though?

edit: I guess I'll find out in 10 minutes edit-edit: Or not.

I am currently using a Haswell i3 and 750ti, as my gaming rig is out of commission. Will it play this OK? What sort of settings, medium?

I'm sick of it too. Problem is 60 fps is the reason I keep a PC, and the Pro isn't doing much as frame rate goes.

Did some testing with the tutorial level using 3 separate forms of frame counter software, it says the game is rendering at above
70fps but to the naked eye its doing at the most half of that figure, its especially notable when moving up and down the stairs before the first crouch tutorial.
If I had bothered to read up on D2's engine of choice I wouldn't have bothered with my pre-order
I just assumed it was going to be on UE3 or any of the later variants, Fuck IDtech5.
I brought the cdkey from a legitimate re seller site so I cant even refund this,

am getting constant 60fps on ultra with 6700k and 1070...but i just started...2 hours in, so i dunno. so far so good. game looks like ASS though.

Is it because you are sitting closer to your monitor, but the resolution scaling looks HORRIBLE on PC compared to consoles? I couldn't stand Quantum Break non-native scaling at all and it sounds like it shouldn't be enabled by default here either ;p.

can we agree though that the game doesn't look good enough to justify running so poorly on modern rigs? I mean it looks alright with the artstyle, but its nothing mindblowing.

why the shit is fps tied to mouse movement too? If I do a fast 180, fps dips noticeably

Dips to the 40's in certain areas (most notably the tracks near the dock looking back at Dunwall) with an i7 6700k and a GTX 1080 at 2560x1080 on ultra settings 100% resolution. Not even the high end is enough to brute force it 100% of the time, hopefully it can be patched to run smoother.

I agree,it looks a few years old.

honestly when i saw the graphics i was expecting this to run at 144hz since doom was at 200. What I got was a weird fluctuating 50-140 even with vsync on

I know I shouldn't say much yet but just messing with the menu's I noticed the mouse acceleration/input lag.

Borderless Window Mode fixed that pretty much. Hopefully it's fine in game.

friction - no
friction level - 0
mouse smoothing - 0

*mouse smooth is still set to "1" in the config file though.

I prefer no AA when it comes to the implementations featured here.

Load times are super quick on SSD, like 4-5 seconds to load a different area.

I wouldn't say the game looks like ass though. The image is soft yes, but everything else to me looks very good.

Insane amounts of aliasing and very dodgy rendering distance drops quality of all of that so hard. You need to be very close for stuff to look good.

How image quality deteriorates;

It's really as if there's a WarpSharp-like filter applied to the entire image. Anyone know if there's something controlling this in the config options?

Exaggerated WarpSharp filter comparison for reference, using one of jim2point0's TW3 screenshots (brightened a little to reveal details):

Original (left), WarpSharp on high settings (right)

Noticeable in general adding to the blurry appearance but especially on thinner objects like wires and trees. When comparing to the pre-release screenshots there's a hint of it but since they're downsampled substantially the effect is minimized, bringing out the sharpness of the textures.

I didn't test it and will play more tomorrow, but Conkerkid11 reported improved control in-game.
Yeah, problem is that the in-game settings has a slider and toggle for everything related to your mouse but mouse smoothing, where there's no toggle, and only a slider from 0-100. I have no idea why turning it to 0 doesn't actually remove mouse smoothing, but it doesn't. Hopefully they add a toggle as well. Dunno why devs default to having it on for PC games. That and the game's sensitivity is incredibly low by default. Seems like those would be pretty easy things to get right.

Changing the cfg settings worked for me, but as I said, I still feel like there's mouse smoothing in the menus that can't be toggled anywhere.

If you dont care about framerate and its consistency then yeah, consoles are a good choice.

It's a shame since the first game was one of the best out there. I had an 8800GT at the time and it still ran perfectly other than a bit of stuttering for 2 seconds after loading. This one feels entirely awful on a GTX 970.

O_o

What a clustefuck.

DOOM is a much better game in terms of optimization and it even runs perfectly on a hardware from 2013 with Vulkan.

I think I'm going to wait until they patch this up or improve it somewhat, because the micro stuttering is making me feel nauseous now.The actual game is very good if you can look past the technical issues.

so the games fucked right now? i guess i'll just replay dishonored 1 in preparation i guess, is the DLC for dishonored 1 worth buying btw? its the dlc or tyranny which comes out in a few hours

I think most here will agree the DLC for the first game was really good. Given the focus on Delilah for this game, the DLC can give you some additional bits of her backstory. Go for it!

Sorry if this has already been posted before but what's the VRAM usage like? I'm considering getting it for the PS4 but some gameplay footage makes it seem like my card (Nvidia 760 GTX 2 GB) can handle this at high-ish settings.

Of course I'd be playing it at 30 fps locked but that's what I'd be getting on the console version anyhow. Is it worth taking the plunge or is the VRAM usage something to take into account here?

I really dislike this more realistic look they've gone for. Despite having much sharper textures and fancy shaders and the like, I think it actually looks worse then Dishonored 1.

That's not hazy nostalgia either, I just replayed D1 like 2 months ago.

Holy shit, framerate is hilariously bad even at 1080p, turning off graphical settings changes nothing, this is definitely not normal. GTX 980TI here, @ 1080p dropping to low 30 FPS INDOORS.

Exactly how I feel.

Performance-wise, I'm having flashbacks to Dark Messiah's notoriously bad release.
