Dishonored 2 PC performance thread

what is this 'Adaptive Resolution' setting?...I would think it would be best to turn off but when I disable it then my 'FPS Threshold' setting automatically goes to 30...if I try and raise the 'FPS Threshold' setting to 60 then my 'Adaptive Resolution' setting automatically changes from 'Off' to 'Manual'...

Adaptive rez automatically renders the image quality at a lower resolution to save fps, especially if you leave it to max fps and always on, I gained like 10-15 fps with it set to balanced ( performance is just too much, looks like an x360 game )

at first I thought the 'FPS Threshold' referred to the frame rate limit but there's a separate setting for that...the 'FPS Threshold' only refers to the 'Adaptive Resolution' setting...so I disabled it and set the Limit to 60 and everything seems fine so far

Are these guys even updating the customers that they fucked over? Jesus christ, I can't think of a worse drop off in quality of a sequel in a while. Ones that ive played anyway.

fuck this shit.

The sequel is exelent actually, better in every way, the problem is the pc port that's terrible, the game on itself is phenomenal, i rented the ps4 version and play for at least 6 hours and went and got the PC version and to my surprise it runs very poorly on my 980ti

Let's compare to the previous installment, not other games - AFAIK mission selection was available in Dishonored.

And Dishonored 1 didn't have 2 selectable characters with individual power trees or official no-powers paths. Or New Game+. Dishonored 2 is still a more fully featured game than its predecessor even without the December patch.

The PC version clearly wasn't finished. The console version of the game is perfectly fine by normal standards (ie plenty of games release with framerate drops) and isn't receiving the same negative attention as the PC release. Consequently it's one of the highest rated games of the year on consoles.

I was talking about the performance, my bad for not making it obvious. I'm pretty sure I had a shit PC when the first game came out and it ran flawlessly. I honestly havent played past the first level because the game literally makes me feel sick.

sigh

so i have a 970
i5 6500
and 16gb RAM

can i on high settings, maintain 60?
and no i dont mean flawlessly.
im ok with drops here and there but will i hover around 60 at least?
i ask because im considering just picking up the PS4 version today

I mean, I guess? But the console versions still run at 30 fps and even lower resolution on the xbone, so by that metric the PC version is clearly superior regardless of the issues - at least since the patch.

I have a 970 (coupled with a i7-920 @ 4ghz) and am playing on High; with only 1 of the options turned down to medium (can't recall which). If you're happy with the use of the adaptive resolution setting (which now works), you can play at 60fps with just minor dips here and there. Of course the adaptive resolution does mean a drop in image quality, but I'm finding it a mostly smooth experience now. A nice 60fps in most areas, with some small dips. The sharp drops down from 60-35 are gone with the fix to adaptive resolution and it's smoother with the triple buffering options. If you're not looking for a flawless experience I think you'll be fine.

EDIT- should note that I'm playing at 1920x1080 so do factor that in.

Right but the point is that the console version is perfectly in keeping within respective platform standards. There isn't a giant outcry of "Where is the patch?!?". It's largely just people who have been playing and discussing the game as normal, just like with any new release. With almost no cries of "This game is unfinished" or 'just shoved out the door".

All of that talk is justifiably coming from the PC side where the port is pretty broken even if it still can be brute forced enough to play the game at console level settings. Which could only be done since last week's patch since the original release had bugged loading times when locking to fps.

Worth noting that even at locked 60 fps I'm still getting random frame stutters. Much better than what I was getting pre-patch but still crops up.

Is the game taking about a minute to load every time you launch it a known issue? If so, is there a fix? I'm running it off an SSD so it's kind of a bummer.

Probably already shared.

DF Dishonored 2 Analysis.

The mention of the Titan X not keeping a steady 60fps at 1080p on ultra settings. A card designed for 4k gaming would be a nice reminder to all the people saying that this is not a big deal and they can keep a "locked 60fps" with some drops. The port is not well optimized period.

Even with my 1080 the look of the game to achieve a steady 60 is pretty bad. Its not even a steady one when it drops to 40s at random.

Also worth noting that the PS4 Pro seems to be the only place where the fps is kept at a high 30 most of the time. So yea... i really wish to see a good update soon to help with the optimization of the game. Good thing there are plenty of other games coming out or out already to keep me from this one.

Every time? Like, if you load a saved game, immediately close the game and relaunch it takes another minute to get by that initial loading bar? There's something wrong if that's happening to you.

For me, the long loading bar only happens if I launch another game or two before going back to Dishonored 2.

I should have clarified; this is only when I launch the game. I saw it on my brother's rig and the initial load took less than ten seconds, but it takes me over a minute on the same brand of SSD (Samsung)

Yeah, I know what you meant. When the game first launches, a loading screen appears with Corvo and Emily's face as a bar fills up.

If I launch the game for the first time after a few days, that first load will take about a minute on my SSD. But if I immedlately quit the game after a save finishes loading, then relaunch from scratch, that same loading bar is finished in just a few seconds.

I believe that's how it's supposed to work. The extra long load only seems to happen if I play other games in between Dishonored 2 sessions.

See that doesn't happen for me. Even in that situation you described, I still have a long loading time.

They need to fix the loading bug when you first load up the game ( before the flash screens) sometimes it loads quick while other times a couple of minutes.

I'm not arguing it isn't, but at the same time they removed good and useful parts of the game that were in the first place. Adding cool new thing does not excuse removing earlier cool things - how hard can it be to have a mission selector? It's extremely useful in this type of game so it's really weird decision to remove it.

i'm not. i just dislike people using the word "retard" so flippantly :/

I haven't touched D2 in about two weeks or so because I'm waiting for patches. The last patch made it better but something still feels off.

Keep on disliking then

I've only played it for 1-2 hours after the last patch was released and although it was much better than the first one the game is far from being enjoyable with that retarded fps all over the place

Can anyone recommend an application to record and log the average FPS over time? That I can toggle on and off with a shortcut key and have that session logged somewhere.

I was going to use FRAPS but since one of the patches if I have it running Dishonored 2 doesn't load :(

Take it easy guy, you can express your disappointment without saying rude and offensive stuff, like chill out, it's just video games, they are clearly working on a second patch.

It's not just video games, it's also money. I bought it with my money, I didn't receive a working product; and I'm still waiting.

As someone who got in contact with Bethesda over the vampirism bug in Oblivion, being able to play until completion is considered working.

Afterburner can log diagnostic data, I think.

I understand that, I bought the game myself and am waiting on the patch but lowering yourselves to calling people retards over them working on a patch that hasn't released yet is ridiculous and childish.

From what Dictator93 mentioned in his post on id Tech 5 I wonder if the performance can be vastly improved past where it is now. Will have to wait and see I guess.

How was Wolfenstein TNO perf-wise on PC? It ran on IT5.
Thanks for the reference. I guess I wait for the next patch, then, or play with everything on low. Maybe a refund would be an option, too, to show that this isn't acceptable.

Fine:

But The Old Blood introduced screen-space reflections, which impacted performance quite significantly (I assume everything but MSAA was maxed out as the article makes no mention of it):

Heh, I wouldn't have used the word myself but it is ironic that it describes the situation perfectly. We've indeed received a delayed (retarded) Dishonored 2 experience.
