Didn't even think of that. Thanks for the enlightenment, but I'll still prob just be pornin if 360 gets Divx support.Deadly Monk said:Anime.
beermonkey@tehbias said:It doesn't have 5.1 or Dolby support, and that makes it far less useful than it could be. Better audio support for the 264/mkv and better support for MPEG-2 transport streams is just as important as the DivX support IMO.
Competition FTW, though in this case I see no indication that Sony was doing it first.
that is retarded. please someone tell me you can actually have video from your PC saved on your 360. via usb stick? through the network? i use this all the time for my ps3.mr_bishiuk said:you cant copy it to the 360 (i think) but you dont need too, it streams it

i don't put everything on my ps3 but for things i plan on accessing later, i usually just copy it over. especially things like images. it's fun being able to throw up a funny image during video chat. i treat the ps3 almost like an ipod for music/movies in that i'll put my current favorites on there. i value network performance and even the slightest delays in fetching/browsing my media can be very annoying to me.Psychotext said:Terabyte drives in your well organised and catalogued media server?![]()
you know what's better? being able to stream it and save it. i don't know how this is even an argument -- it's not like i'm arguing against streaming. i just think they should let you copy. i mean, why not?watership said:Oh come on, it's not remotely retarded. The best media centre on the planet, XBMC, does it that way. Slingboxes do it. Media usually comes from your PC, which can have huge drives and you can serve various devices. Done correctly it's better than keeping it local on your console.

i just shared my personal experience and how i frequently copy stuff over. it's a feature i already utilize. it's not like it is hard to figure out how to let people copy stuff over -- copying files over a network is easier than streaming them. it's a feature that should be expected on devices with a hard drive. it's one of those "why not?" sort of things.watership said:It's just not necessary. If it was a portable device, it would be must. Its just like content on demand vs TIVO. Tivo's were fine when you needed to keep stuff on your local box, but if TV content was readily available on demand, you wouldn't need too.
he posted two images. he didn't say they were "copying." he was responding to your trolling statement about how you "see no indication that Sony was doing it first." even though we do have evidence of them doing it first. those images are pretty old, and we also have this - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=206663beermonkey@tehbias said:And we know that MS has got stuff they've been working on for a long time that hasn't yet made into a spring or fall update. Some stuff is just logical. PS3 support of iPod AAC wouldn't necessarily indicate copying the 360 just because 360 had it first. Eventually I'm sure we'll see TV shows that you can buy through PSN but I'd suspect that they were planning it or at least considering it before 360 even launched, I wouldn't call it copying.

what happens behind closed doors isn't really relavent to this discussion. sony's interest in divx support was put out in the open, and only when it's out in the open can it potentially influence competition.beermonkey@tehbias said:Some people don't know the difference between earlier evidence that somebody is doing something versus evidence of somebody doing something earlier.
I'm sure MS and Sony are toying around with all kinds of ideas and even doing development and prototyping on lots of them (some of which may see light of day and some of which may not). Evidence of some of these things will leak out and some will not.
The real trolling of course in this 360 thread is the original out-of-place Sony comment to which I responded, but of course you have no issue with that.
it was just a matter of time when will vista be available to users around the world. linkWindows Vista will expand the Xbox 360's viewing options. Using a Cable Card-based digital TV tuner, you'll be able to watch digital SD and HD cable via a Vista MCE PC. Vista will also add support for DivX-encoded content as well, says Dave Alles, general manager of the Windows Media Center division at Microsoft.

i'm not saying microsoft is copying sony. it's just silly to think of microsoft as some sort of pro-divx party that is bringing it to their console way before anybody else. it's obvious sony is interested in doing it around the time home is coming and that could very well be putting pressure on microsoft to support it too. beermonkey@tehbias was acting like it hasn't even crossed sony's mind.Tk0n said:so what youre saying is, that microsoft is copiing sony, because they dont support a video format yet that the ps3 isnt supporting yet either?

you're an idiot if you're downloading 10GB TV episodes. but again, i'm not saying get rid of streaming in favor of saving. once again, i'm saying it's retarded that you can't save anything when you can already stream it. there's no reason not to allow it. and somehow you make a drastic jump in logic and think that you'd always save everything you would otherwise be streaming. and who's limited to 80GB?tinfoilhatman said:For starters 80 gigs is going to fill up awful quick when one TV show in HD is almost 10 gigs.

that is a video streaming in a public space in home. i really doubt they get their own videos second hand from random people on the internet.beermonkey@tehbias said:Ditto. A watermark in an image only means that such an encoder was used somewhere along the line in a who-knows-now-many-generations-old video. Somebody throwing together a demo might use videos from any old source.
