DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

I liked HS's combat a lot which I assume is the main reason Capcom wanted them to do it

They wanted them to do it because Inafune is insane and Capcom has hundreds of people doing nothing.

I don't have that HS input lag gif anymore.

not gonna happen. I really don't think we will see Kamiya ever touching the series again.

I only hope that future DMC's they reach out to better talent. Id much rather see cutscenes directed by someone like This guy ,than anything ninja theory has shown. Thats the kind of cutscenes that deserves to be unskippable.
Hm, that's quite good. Definitely in line with what's expected of cutscene direction in the series (if DmC's Osiris worked anything like that, it certainly would've left much more of an impression).

That RWBY clip was stylish and over the top action that is expected from a DMC cutscene. Too bad about the overly ANIMAY style, I would kreygasm if that was DMC5 Dante stylin on demon fools.

Haven't been following this but the overall expectations for this seem to be pretty good now right? Definitely not what it was back when NT was first announced to work on it

General expectations for the title have gone from a confidence rate of around 5% to probably close to 40-50%. It's definitely a huge swing, and what they've shown is certainly better than what most people were expecting.

It's still definitely not up to the standards of the series, but it looks playable, which is more than most were expecting from Ninja Theory.

This is the final stage of grief.

I know this is just a (hopefully) friendly jab at the DMC fanbase, but I'll personally always grieve for the series if it never returns to its roots. I don't think that's unreasonable, either.

Well its only a illustration really. Its clear from the guys body of work, that he knows how to mix eastern martial arts action, with western "balls to the wall" action without it looking moe or too "japanesey"

This guy and people liike tragic, show the the talent to create a kickass DMC does exist in the west, even if the final product has to have a more western style than the OG series. Its just capcom need to to reach out and create a team, rather than contract out to a developer.

Seeing as color coded combat made it's way into DmC, it isn't like Capcom was that opposed to HS combat. And DmC is Heavenly Sword 2.

I'm actually glad in a way that this game has a sex scene. (A nicely disgusting one a that)

The strange taboo of sex in video games needs to go away, as quickly as possible.

Do you want to send society into moral freefall? Those Mass Effect hardcore pornography simulators that I heard about on the news are bad enough! And now we have this D***l may Cry game that's all about the king of the underworld porking his tarted up flesh mannequin. We are teetering on the brink, my friend.

Games need more mature sex scenes not sex scenes for shock value. Mundus boning Lilith doggie style is not what the industry needs.

At first I was going to to disagree, but since Dahbomb beat me to it. I guess you're right.

Most of the times in movies and books, people don't worry about sleaze setting the industry back. So NT is arguably being progressive by being making the sleaziest, scummiest DMC ever. Truly pushing the industry forward like Manhunt and the Path.

Just saw that cutscene where Dante acquires Devil Trigger.

wat the fuck was that

Seriously, how shitty. Though I do like the Akuma-lite look of Dante the whole thing was an underwhelming stinker.

Quite enjoyed the Vergil/Dante one where Vergil explains the 'situation' so to speak on demons, angels, etc. Still don't like the bastardization of Sparda though. They're portraying him as a pussy and getting bitch slapped by Mundus for getting his dick wet.

Worst part of DMC1.

The idea of having an additional trigger is kind of okay.

Well, I for one thought it was fun. To me, it was like one of the top holy shit moments in DMC1. It was like "OH MY GOD I'M FLYING AND THROWING LIGHTNING BOLTS!". It was pretty cool to me.

I think DMC1 might be to blame for "quickly introduced new gameplay mechanic for big set-piece boss fight near the end of the game" thing

blargh

Oh you were talking about DT, I thought you meant end boss thing.

I thought he would go DT when Kat gets murdered, Super Saiyan-style.

...what? Kat dies?

I agree. Alastor has to be one of the best weapons in DMC ever with the coolest DT ever. I'm kind of pissed that they never brought back Alastor.

DT in general was awesome in DMC1. Every blow in DT felt heavy and hard, like a Devil form supposed to and I like how you get a glimpse of his form when he strikes in DT unless you fly.

Definitely. I was surprised when Alastor didn't return in any of the later DMC games. I had assumed that it would be Dante's standard melee weapon throughout the series. What sense does it make to let such an iconic sword fade into obscurity? Alastor is so much more appealing than Rebellion.

I did miss the Alastor, but it didn't really make sense to bring it back. I mean Dante never permanently keeps devil arms that he gets on missions, right?

I kinda like Rebellion, though. I thought it was neat that that DMC2 kept it when they transitioned to DMC3. That's his sword now.

Yup yup. All those throwback stages in Bayonetta. O_O

He also did say one of his dream games would be a remake of Afterburner.

I am probably one of the few people I know who enjoyed those throwback stages.

Off topic but I thought the latest Afterburner was pretty damn awesome, one of the few games I actually keep installed on my PS3 just to play for fun every now and then (along with Vanquish.)

I agree. I think its because of DMC3 is the reason why the Rebellion stuck. Even though DMC2 introduced Rebellion, DMC3 kind of really made it Dante's main weapon before Force Edge in DMC1. And it's the most popular entry to boot.

Dante keeps all his Devil Arms but he doesn't seem to like carrying them with him when he goes out. Every time they show his office in the DMC game he always have a bunch of weapons on the walls, even on DMC1 actually I think. He probably uses them as trophies because he can only get the Devil Arms by killing a powerful demon. Shows potential clients that he means business.

I think the description for Rebellion in DMC2 was even just "a regular sword" or something like that. Rebellion only became Rebellion with DMC3.

We'll likely never know, because Kamiya's Dante (who will always be the REAL one, to me) never re-appeared in any game beyond Viewtiful Joe-PS2.

And for what it's worth, he was still using Alastor there in that appearance, even though it had apparently started rusting out...
because the Alastor in Viewtiful Joe IS confirmed to be the spirit in the sword.

Kamiya's Dante is appearing in that Namco x Sega x Capcom game. He is also appearing in some All Stars mobile game.

The space Mundus and plane sequences were aweful sequences in DMC1 as were the underwater missions. These blemishes keep DMC1 from being a damn near perfect game for its time.

No DMC game has repeated Devil Arms except for Rebellion. Rebellion has become Dante's trademark sword, he will most likely have it in every game just like Vergil has his Yamato. Despite not being a trademark, the Shotgun has been in every game. You know what they say.... Devil arms come and go but Ebony and Ivory are forever.

Capcom should put in legacy weapons as unlockables in the game Onimusha style. They can be palette swaps with some different effects but some altered moves. Of course I can understand why they don't do this, they want weapons that are very different from each other to keep the variety in combat. I respect that, last time they tried it with DMC2 and it was ass.

Games don't need either.

What? You mean the other way around right? It's another weird thing though. Rebellion wasn't even in dmc then it's in dmc 2 and apparently dante had when he was young in dmc3. That continuity.

The throwback part before the final boss of DMC1 was probably the worst part of the game. The throwback parts in Bayonetta are also the worst part of that game (the final fight with Jeanne is locked behind one of these boring sequences to make it even worse).
