DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

Seriously, at this rate, Bayonetta 2 is gonna have some new touchscreen combo-enders you're required to do to finish enemies or required stealth sections in the real world, as Bayonetta tries to understand the humans who fear her. Ya know, really flesh our her background.

Man, between Halo, Gears, Ninja Gaiden, Resident Evil, DMC...it's like every series I follow is going through some big change to appeal to casuals that piss off the hardcore fans of the original.
Gears has been made more casual? How is that even possible? I have played Gears up until the third one and they all appeared to be within the same level of mechanics with each game building upon the previous one.

Some of the changes they're making in the new Gears: Judgement are...questionable.

I was lukewarm on the first few playthroughs of the demo, but now that I've played the levels ~10 times a piece I couldn't be happier (with the combat aspect at least). It really does feel like a modernized DMC3 with a hint of Bayonetta.

Originally, I hated the idea there was no hard-lock mechanic, but the game does a good job in going after the enemy you want it too. Switching between weapons using the triggers took a while to get used to, but after it becomes 2nd nature you can absolutely destroy enemies in a flash.

The platforming and adventure elements have improved for the most part. The exploration aspects of the first stage are cool and the bonus rooms seemed more fair than DMC4. My main gripe is that Dante moves slowly out of combat, but I think aside from Bayonetta this has always been an issue to me.

It baffles me that they didn't include the full movelist in the demo. After finding the one on GAF, my combos actually started looking like DMC3. I'd argue that stylistically, this and rising have the sickest looking combos in the genre.

Needless to say, I'm completely on board at this point. From a gameplay perspective, this seems like the DMC3 sequel I was looking for. If there's a difficulty mode akin to vanilla DMC3, I'll be set.

I'd like to think that Hashimoto and Kamiya (who's still supervising the production of the game) won't go THAT far.

At worst, Bayonetta 2 may suffer its own version of the Viewtiful Joe 2 affliction of "not being as fresh and ground-breaking as the original". Or possibly not streamlining/removing the QTEs or Vehicle sections that a number of us didn't like from the original game. But to say that I don't think P* is any position to start "experimenting" with what people come to have expect from what is easily their most valuable property at the moment is an understatement, I think.

I didnt pay attention much to the whole ordeal with the new DMC but I played the demo the other day. Wasnt a fan of the narrative but the combat felt pretty solid and fluid. Last dmc I played was dmc3 and it felt fairly similar. The dialogue in the boss fight was pretty childish but I never let those things ruin my overall experience

Wow, guys.

Man, that reminds me: Donte Must Cry doesn't have the style switching of Devil May Cry 3-4. :( Dante would completely decimate Donte with tablehopping/Trickster and Royal Guard and Donte couldn't do shit about it.

Reason #3409850405830805438058340985082405209458021 that Donte Must Cry is gonna suck. :(

Really, the only way this is going to save itself is if when the game ends, it cuts of Dante waking up with a start and uttering something about a bad dream and leads into the opening scene of DMC 3.

But it ain't going to happen, is it?

I just realized that a Nude Dante mod is inevitable.

And I think the cut-scenes were pre-rendered(like Heavenly Sword and Enslaved) at some point because they decidedly don't look as good as in their past trailers. Wonder how that change came about.

I think the narrative is frankly terrible from what we've seen so far. That Dante and Vergil cut-scene was weird and unnatural.

DMC3 Dante doesn't have in-game style switching, you can only switch styles between missions or at the statues. DMC4 Dante despite being able to switch styles on the fly is quite simply a poor man's version of DMC3 Dante. Besides, Donte's demon dodge power boost alone would be enough to put Dante in his place, lolz. Have you even played the demo? Dante has an innate dodge ability(two dodges in fact), air dodge, air boost and parrying. You can do what you just mentioned without switching shit.

Im trying my best not to bitch, but this is atrocious.

Dante has just acquired what is probably the most important upgrade of the game in terms of lore and narrative and not even a quip?

Say what you want about DMC3 cheesyness but this scene is far far far better in terms of explaining the significance and impact of just acquiring DT.

Just mentioned this in the youtube video. It's incredibly lame how Donte gets DT.

If there's one thing I thought NT would nail would be cut-scene direction, but it seems like very few fucks were given. I liked the demo, I'm hype for the game, but I fail to see exactly what they have brought to the franchise.

I agree. This scene is much more tame and safe, which is a bit disappointing.

so far no upgrade pick up we have seen has been written with any real impact. IMO.

Even cerberuses "take my soul" and this cringeworthy monologue Give the player a sense of progression and show that obtaining these weapons is an achievement.

Donte just kinda picks things up, shrugs his shoulders and walks on.

Both DMC3 and DMC4 Dante have Royal Guard which would own DmC Dante.

There hasn't been really any cutscene in DmC that made me go "that is some boss shit!" Just a lot of cursing and boring exposition. Best thing action wise from DmC was that cinematic trailer in front of RE:Retribution.

Finally played the demo. I thought it was excellent. Gameplay clicked for me immediately and it's nice to look at to boot. Would have liked a higher frame rate but I suppose that's what the PC version is for.

to be honest, i didn't think that their ever would be some amazing cutscenes in DmC action wise but I did expect Ninja theory to play to their strengths in terms of writing emotive scenes.

But that Dante and Vergil one was just bad, not only for the graffiti, but by the way vergil repeats himself as if he hasn't even remembere what he said 30 seconds ago. In the same deadpan tone as well.

wel weird.

Look at that stylish motherfucker. DMC4's cut-scenes still look really good.

Yeah, shame the sound-mixing is so fuckin' horrid, lol.

I played that scene the first time without subtitles and I didn't even know/hear half the words he was saying until "In the end, we are all satisfied"

Wasn't that better in DMC3, either. Music always drowning out the dialog.

This is basically what I've been saying since day one. A bit of a fresh take on the lore and characters but otherwise, the reboot seems pointless. Good game but pointless.

"A fat man with a symbol on his head (who is presumably Mundus) is ******* a woman who is in a skin-tight suit, named Lilith. He mentions how his succubus was killed. I’m assuming the larvae boss was his succubus, but it was not clarified."

This leak has just been proven true.
From the looks of it, you also gain the Eryx gauntlets just before that. Rather disappointing after the scene with Gilgamesh in DMC4.

Either way, said scene from the leak is just as gross to watch as it was to read about.
