DmC: Devil May Cry - Demo Thread [Demo out now on XBL & PSN]

DMC4 combat is awesome but a lot about the game sucks like the puzzle sections and backtracking. Then you have the weird story and that one level with the fucking disappearing floor sections.

I should do another playthrough of DMC4 this weekend and by playthrough I mean Bloody Palace.

Whatchu waitin' for, dude?

I've never been able to time that damn grab right. Looks so stylish.

Oh Credo, you were so fun to fight. Only reminds me though how much of a cluster fuck DMC4 was considering they had you fight the best boss only once but made you trudge through all the other bosses three fucking times, with absolutely no changes to boss behavior/AI and design.

When was the third time?

The boss fights are required, the enemy encounters aren't during the dice game. So you do fight some bosses 3 times.

So apparently EventStatus has been contacted directly by Greg from CU concerning his feedback on the DmC demo. I hope that some the concerns are related to NT/Capcom although with less than a month until release I don't know if it will do any good.

EventStatus said:
So... Gregman from CU just messaged me via youtube trying to "clear the air" so to say about DmC. Apparently he watched my latest DmC video. Though he is trying to be very respectful and adult about the situation, it's best I answer him later from a less charged place. There are quite a few things I don't think he knows about the situation, which I will explain in a reply. He also talks about sending feedback to a higher chain of command.

Well for a person like me, who people say I'm not a threat or just some crazy person. It's quite obvious people are listening and this is only ONE step to make a difference. Maybe we can help change things from the inside. I will keep you all updated once I answer...

I don't know why are they even bothering with Event. I've never seen him discuss the actual mechanics of any DMC game, he just goes into insane rants.

Because he's the one guy where most of the attention is focused on?

If it is who I think it is the guy seems like a dick.

It's all about who screams loud enough.

Sadly true, I guess.

And he is a dick. And pointless to talk to. His anti-DmC histrionics go beyond the point of ridiculous. That guy couldn't be objective if his life depended upon it. And I repeat, he says nothing of worth.

Finally played the demo...the game wasnt bad...but its not Devil May Cry. Dante acts more like a straight ass than a cocky guy, and the boss dialogue isnt nearly as amusing as the last two games.

Graphics are nice, and the game feels responsive, but I miss the visual look of 60fps.

Ninja Theory should've done the story/scenario design, while Capcom handled the rest imo...but its not as bad as I thought it would be. Guess I could just wait for the PC version...because I do want to see what else the game has in store.

Just got DMC4 again from Gamestop for $5. So good playing it again. It's almost a different game in that my expectation are completely different compared to when I played it back in 2008. Part of me feels weird in that it I decided to replay DMC4 after playing the DmC demo, and not after completing the DMC HD collection. I'm planning on buy DmC and look forward to it, but after recently playing DMC 1/3 and currently DMC4; I'm gonna miss the combat system that I'm so used to.

on the subject of DMC4 ive been going through these tutorials again... i think iI already mentioned them in this thread but the amount of tech in DMC4 that even the expert combo vids dont show is amazing. I love that games combat so much.

People DO use these in expert combos.

He does discuss mechanics, the last video he posted on DMC had actual mechanics discussion especially the style system. It's in the midst of all his usual ranting but it's there, he even used the stats and evidence that I linked him.

He only parrots what other people bring up. I don't think he even plays the games all that much.

At least someone is vocal enough to make videos and compile problems with the game and actual fan concern that is getting Capcom's attention. I have no problem with EventStatus representing the fanbase when it comes to communicating with Capcom directly. He gets the essence of what DMC is, more so than a lot of other people out there on the web. I wouldn't make conjectures on how much someone has played a certain game especially when it comes to EventStatus who would blow people up for claims like that.

Yeah I kept trying to pull off stinger by memory :(

It took me a few minutes but I really enjoyed this demo. This is one of those games I'd get stuck playing for hours without even realizing it. Then play it again a couple years later like - wait...I think I played this

I enjoyed the demo, I just don't get the hate about this game. The 60 to 30 thing don't bother me, and the graphics look better to me than the other games in the series. The way the game plays is the highlight for me, I just want a good action game and they delivered. Now for those dmc fanatics, get over youselves, it's not just about you.

So it's just about pleasing you then?

You'd think that's what people who say the game should be cancelled think.
I don't really see them being much different from the people who take a dump on the fanbase just because they have different opinions and taste. There are a lot of extreme sentiments around this game from both sides but you can't just generalize about a group of people like that and tell them they don't matter or "get over themselves". I have seen this a lot at various locations and it's not just restricted to message boards, the press as a whole has been taking this attitude as well. In fact the first time I heard someone tell the fanbase to get over themselves was from a preview video.

You're way too rational.
Stop it, its infuriating. -__-

Someone posted a link about top 30 US pre-orders for Dec 8th 2012 on another forum but it's from ********. Is that still banned around here? I don't know how accurate those numbers are but DmC is not in the top 30 pre-orders for US.

Last time that happened was Fallout 3, and guess what? Bethesda probably doesn't give a shit what a single member of NMA has to say. Same thing will happen here if it sells well, so it's really a pointless argument. No one's going to convince Capcom this is a bad game until sales happen, and the people in that group decided LONG ago that they weren't going to buy it, so I'm not really sure why they continue to stick around for threads about that particular game other than to nitpick it from a distance with no intention of playing it.

I wouldnt take any stock in that at all. the banned site is bad enough with released titles. The pre-orders is a whole another level of made up numbers.

Not only that, but the bulk of DmC's preorders will come from Europe anyway. It's always been DMC's biggest market.

It isn't legit. If there was any accurate tracker for game pre-orders then we'd have some big thread about it.

Just look at the games listed. That site listed Prey 2 and The Smurfs Wii on the top listed pre-orders recently. But if you need something more concrete, then notice that the site doesn't have data on the increase in pre-order sales that the Capcom USA guys claimed it got after the DmC demo. Hell, it doesn't even have much data on DmC at all!

Stay away from that site. Unless the publisher or gaming store comes out and says they got a shit load of pre-orders, which seldom happens, don't take any pre-order lists to heart.

Alright ignore what I said in the previous post. There was once a time when Kotaku was banned here too so I thought maybe more exceptions were made. I don't really follow game sales much anymore except for DMC games of course.

I don't really know much about the Fallout series but one of the problems with DmC is that both Capcoma and NT have said several times that this DMC game will retain the series DNA in terms of game play and will provide substantial depth for the hardcores. That's what most of the discussion in this thread has been about, its how this game does not live up to that statement. And for that discussion to happen the long time fans have to come in and provide evidence to support how this game does not have the depth or quality that its being claimed to have... which they have done.

Most DMC fans want to play this game and they have by playing the demo. It's a totally different thing when it comes to asking them to buy this game at full price and put money in the pocket of NT and Capcom.

Wait...Kotaku was banned here before?

Man, between Halo, Gears, Ninja Gaiden, Resident Evil, DMC...it's like every series I follow is going through some big change to appeal to casuals that piss off the hardcore fans of the original.
