Because they're not saying no. All I said is that it's surprising, in a western majority poll for the "no" number to not be even higher, given all the hate you see in comment sections.
If Toriyama has a cameo in mind and 40% are fine with it or don't care either way, I just find that number to be surprisingly high; especially on a site with most of the votes coming from the west that also gave the latest game a "NO" review score. If you factored in polls on sites in other languages around the world where the FF series sells, it would probably about even out, or even tip it in SQEX's favor.
Seems like a vastly inflated controversy on this site. A large chunk of people don't seem to mind it either way, or are okay with it, and I think that number would only grow with more balanced global representation in the poll.

I rather her be in a something like Dissidia in which they can make a new but familiar story like they did in 012.
I wonder if what happened then will happen again with a new Dissidia. She was going to be in the first one, but since it was coming out before XIII, they didn't want to introduce her and her moves in another game.
Maybe the next Dissidia will come out before XV(sadly)and then they'll do another one and add Nocto.
Or maybe they can do Dissidia: Lighting Ed. and Dissidia Noctis Orgy Ed. ala Pokemon.
As for KH. I was never a fan on how some FF characters were portrayed in them. Zack being the exception. I would like her as super boss though.

I played 13 and thought it was fun ( But yeah I powered leveled and sort of rushed through the game), I have been wanting to pick on 13-2 and eventually lighting returns but yeah at this point they need to move one. Honestly I think they just re used models from 13 just to have a FF game out on console (also merchandise... in Japan :O) while they work on KH/FF15.
As would a prequel to FFX starring Aruon followingon his pilgrimage. I didn't care much for FFX but that would be great. Especially since Tidus and Waka would not even be born yet.Jecht

It has. The official Roman translation has been Aerith since the beginning. Just like the N.A. version the Euro had several translation errors (Aeris is only one of many) so it doesn't matter what was said in your copy.
Unless you want to try and argue Nojima always intended for "this guy are sick".

In NA she was initially Aeris, but changed to Aerith in the PC version. Note that Square felt it necessary to fix the name.

In the original English releases of FFVII and Tactics, her name was mis-rendered as Aeris. The official spelling, and the spelling used in games since then, has always been Aerith. I don't believe Europe or NA has anything to do with it.
She'll always be Aeris to me! Aerith sounds... Urgghhhhhh no.

In a popularity contest "I don't care" is no where near yes. There's a reason why it's not "Yes/don't care". Fine, they aren't against it, but SE is saying "Lightning is extremely popular with the fanbase". "Don't care" =/= "I want her". Context is everything.
And Shinta, those are some hardcore assumptions you are making. And nearly 60% for anything is generally considered to be a majority.

The tough-girl thing wears thin on me. I know it's part of her character, and that she puts on this whole Lightning facade because of her past, but I thought she didn't shed it enough throughout the story. She always came off to me as annoyed and unemotive.

No, the original translator changed it because he personally liked Aeris versus Aerith. Even in the development room (which had early/rough English translations for a lot of things) properly uses Aerith.

I do enjoy the 90% no! poll in this thread, which (+/-5%) seems fairly representative among core gamers and longtime Final Fantasy fans, the main GAF crowd that would bother to vote in such a poll.

Hell no. I don't actually dislike the character as much as I'm apathetic, but the last thing Final Fantasy needs is her as a staple. Let her rest and get better characters on the spotlight.
He did the right thing in changing it. Aeris>>>Aerith.

Exactly, they're why I dislike FFX. Tidus might appear briefly but he wouldn't go on the journey.
I don't need to see characters from my favourite title in the series(which is 9) so why would I want to see someone from a game that I didn't even want to finish?
A Dissidia/Theatrhythm/KH3 entry as a normal side character is fine to me. Anything else needs to stop. No more side games and absolutely no entry in FFXV because it would be just silly.

"Don't care for it" is wrong. They don't care either way. They would be fine if it's there, or not there. The option to select "no" is right next to it and they didn't.
Hence why I said I was surprised the Kotaku poll was that high. This poll also doesn't have any 3rd option, but it wouldn't matter much anyway on this site.

I dunno, thats why i asked. I have played the game to completition but its been a long time. Also the decisions people make to different situations are very reflective of their personalities
I can see this, but doesnt that act almost completely go out at half the game mark? If i remember correctly this is when the game goes in full japanese "shounen" mode and everyone is powered up by their friendship and shit. She even accepts snow i think.

1) She does not receive any significant role in a future mainline game. If you HAVE to drop her in there for God knows why, have her on a street as a random civilian spouting out some meaningless one-liner for fanservice. Or a DLC boss fight if they still want to do those. Otherwise please piss off.
2) There is not yet another game starring her. I trust there won't be, and even if there is one, I know I'm not obligated to purchase it, but it would be another staggering kick to the balls because it would be so undeserved it's breathtaking.
3) Finally please fucking shut up about how great and popular she is. Yeah, "popular" maybe in a manufactured sense. Stop shilling her now.

You do understand the point of these kinda cameos are fanservice and to help sell the game?
So even if we use your argument and these people don't care about her, they have essentially said no because Lightning has failed at her job in this senario.

To be honest I'm kind of surprised for the poll results. Pre-release for FFXIII had the official thread here with people fawning over the characters more than any details that were released concerning gameplay in general.

Why is there no option for don't care like the original poll? I don't care.. Lightning is a lame character but I wouldn't really care if she showed up in another game as an npc or something. At this point I think it'd be funny just to see everyone overreact to it.
But "no" is one of 3 options, and they specifically didn't select it.
They're saying it's not "yes," and it's also not "no." They are fine either way. This isn't that complicated guys ... geez.

It's a simple yes or no question. If you don't care about the result, then you are not going to respond to the poll. But yes, I'm sure the poll has been inflated by those who care so little about the results that they decided to take the time to click on the thread and vote in the poll. Surely all of the internet is flocking to the poll to express their disinterest.
