Do people really believe a Metroid Prime 4 isn't happening?

Of course there'll be a new Metroid, we're all just upset after the Other M + Fed Force double whammy. I dearly hope Metroid Prime is in development, and wonder what it could be abo...

But for the future, what I have in mind is something involving Silux and Samus with the Federation Force, so to put a focus on that. While I still don’t have a concrete idea on how many games that could be involving between these two, there’s something relating to Silux that has made Silux hate Samus. So in that way, it might be backtracking a bit in the timeline to explain that a little bit, to clarify what is going to happen between the two of them.

...I hope it's dead. I really do.

Nintendo has made it pretty clear that a new Metroid Prime isn't happening, at least not for a good long while. Now supposedly there is a 2D Metroid in development, but I'm prone to pessimism there too because if it was in any state to be shown or teased they would have alongside Fisher-Price's Metroid Prime at E3. Or at least shortly after in response to the backlash.

Maybe we'll get a new Prime-style game with the NX?? Maybe? I'm not optimistic, though, and am going to assume that Retro Studios is stuck in Donkey Kong Hell until further notice.

I am pretty sure the next Metroid is coming but it won't be Prime IV. It will either be Metroid 5 or a new trilogy.

""Fan Fiction Approaching""

I think the next Metroid will take place after Prime 3, Federation Forces, Fusion, and Other M. Smaus will be the one with a bounty on her for what she did at the end of Fusion and Other M. She will be stalked by other hunters as well as the Federation Forces. Her only ally will be Anthony Higgs.

My theory is Federation forces is training you to hunt Samus. :)
And the Eteccons and Dachora, who needs any other ally with that team?

I just want Metroid to move forward past fusion. No more inbetween stories, no Prime 4 (the style of game is still welcome, but the Prime sub series is wrapped up).
I think the Prime is just a title added to the 3d Metroids, they don't exactly have to be numbered, but if Sakamoto doesn't want to move beyond Fusion, Tanabe can only work in-between past games :(

We know it's not in development as of E3 2015:

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console," said series producer Kensuke Tanabe
IGN

Don't expect a new 3D Metroid game until 2017 at the least, probably even 2018. Federation doesn't count.

I think it's painfully obvious what they want to do. They want to actually have Samus be a bounty hunter and travel from planet to planet in some type of mass effect/open world style thing. And the Galactic Federation is going to be some of the characters she has to deal with while she's wrapped up in another Space Pirate/Metroid shit.

Metroid Prime most likely still have a future, according to that interview where Nintendo folks said they want to resume both traditional and Prime series.

I do believe Retro isn't working on Metroid Prime 4, though. I find it more likely that Nintendo will put Retro to work on franchises that actually sell well, like you know, Donkey Kong.

I believe that a new, proper Metroid Prime game will happen someday.

I also believe that a new, proper Metroid Prime game is not currently in development. Or is in its very early stages. At the very least, I'm not expecting to see one announced anytime soon.

Given that they titled Hunters and Federation Force "Prime" despite have no relation whatsoever to story in Prime, I guess it wouldn't be too surprising if they stuck with that brand and made Metroid Prime 4.

I groaned reading his comments though, does anyone care about Silux or the federation or any of that crap? Just crash land Samus on a planet and let us explore it, discover some secret Space Pirate stuff going on, and stop them. That's all the lore and story you need.

Focusing on characters and story in Metroid is about as useful as doing it in Mario.

That comment came before Federation Force, so that could very well be their "new Prime game."

Also, lol at "actually sell well." Hasn't Tropical Freeze done worse than any of Retro's Prime games?

I'm sure a new "proper" Metroid is happening. I just don't think it's Prime. And frankly I hope it's not Prime, because the original was the best by a significant distance, and I don't see that changing.

Personally I would like to see a third-person Metroid.

If that was true people wouldn't care about how much other m "ruined" her character or whatever.

It'll happen, just not on Wii-U. Sounds like a great exclusive to get people excited about a new Nintendo platform down the road.

Yeah this sounds like it's not happening on Wii u because it's dead and it was never happening on Wii u, so stay tuned for the NX version. If Metroid prime 4 releases in 2019 I'll buy you a copy but it seems they're targeting a 2017 release. Nintendo is way too slow to have it by launch.

No way they'd do a Mass Effect style game. They'll stick to one planet and get power ups and kill aliens.

While I find the Silux stuff super cringe worthy as well at the very least the idea of time traveling and having two worlds similar to Prime 2 and OOT sounds great. I bet they'll end up being buddy buddy due to time traveling fixing shit yuck.

Once the NX sells worse than the Wii U, people will say it coming for the New Wii NX. It's dead Jim.

You realize Sony had nothing to do with either of those, right? Hell, Shenmue III was a goddamn kickstarter ffs

It has something to do with both, but it isn't the only reason those games are happening.

But Nintendo made Bayonetta 2 happen and that's in the same category of games not likely to have happened.

Tanabe's comments seemed to make it pretty clear that we're not getting another Prime until 2018 at the earliest. The backlash at E3 should make it pretty clear to Nintendo that the thirst is real, but what they do with that information is entirely up to them.

"Response to the new Metroid announcement was extremely negative."
"I guess they don't want Metroid anymore. Cancel that new 2D Metroid, and tell Retro not to worry about planning a new 3D one."

I think the Metroid Prime single player franchise is done for accept it, just like the Chrono fans have to accept that there will never be a single player epic Chrono Rpg. Or the Final Fantasy Tactics fans have to accept there won't come a Tactics 2.

While you could take it at face value, it sounds more like I'm not ready to discuss NX software yet. I don't think it's gonna be out in 2016 but it'll probably be announced next year

It think most people believe Prime 4 is going to happen.

The issue is Prime 4 is clearly not going to happen on the WiiU, and instead of getting at least something decent like a proper 2D Metroid game in the waiting period people got... well you know.

How many great games from past generations haven't seen a new installment in years ( another example, Dark Cloud). There are plenty more examples, even from the house of Nintendo, see Golden Sun.

So I accept if we won't ever see a new Metroid Prime as great as 1.

This is also true. Prime 1 was excellent, Prime 2 was better in many regards but worse in others, Prime 3 was just outright worse with a handful of good ideas thrown in, I'd expect a new game to continue in that direction.

I'm going to be pissed if I ever have to look at another living federation trooper again in a mainline Metroid. The only good ones are dead ones. Leave Samus to her solitude and handling her griefs alone.

Im actually satisfied with the trilogy, if they make another it would be out of fan demand/diversity, so i would hope that would be a little different and not just MP "4".

And that thing with Sylux is weird, Hunters was such a lame spin off that i dont see the need to revisit that. a cameo, a little part on the plot, but the ending?

The real question is-
"Does anyone outside of GAF care?"
Yes? This isn't a sequel to The Wonderful 101 we're talking about here. Metroid Prime is a critically acclaimed and commercially successful game, and while the two sequels didn't do as well they were hardly bombs.

I'm pretty sure it's happening. It might not be Retro's next game (that Donkey Kong Jr trademark makes me oh so slightly nervous) but they will do it, I'm very confident.

"Just" Prime "4" could be great if done well. Imagine Prime 2 without the visually bland dark world, pointless ammo system, and poorly handled end game fetch-quest. The game showed potential to be an all-time great, greater than the likes of Prime 1. But its shortcomings held it back.

A new game heavily inspired by that one could be great. The only thing I'd pull from Prime 3 is the ship travel mechanic. Have the game take place on a single planet, and use a combination of ship travel AND the "elevators" to travel to new areas.

Earthbound Beginning was kinda out of nowhere, Mario Maker, Mega Man and Ryu in Smash were kinda big deals. Nintendo still pulls off decent Megatons.

There's literally no reason to believe it is happening, or will happen.
Except the producer is saying the next one will most likely be on the NX?

And ps there was a golden sun 3 it was horrible, so whatever

Well I bought a Wii U with the assumption I'd be playing Metroid at some point, and I sure look foolish now. I traded that shit in a few months ago. It is what I get for assuming it was coming.

Yeah thats what you get! What were you thinking buying a console for games that have historically released on nearly every nintendo platform and expecting them to appear on this one?

You bought a console for the games you thought it would assuredly have?

Bet you wont do that again.

I hope it's not.

the Metroid Prime story is done.

Whatever the next Metroid is, I hope it's something else.

Maybe it could be similar, but we had enough Metroid Primes.

Buying a platform for unannounced games is dumb regardless.

Also, can I borrow your Metroid 64 cart?
