Do women prefer buff guys?

I just explained why in the very post you just quoted. I came in hoping for some genuine discussion over the subject instead of people telling TC that it doesn't matter because everyone is a special little snowflake who's individual opinion is of more merit to the discussion than data representing general opinions of the populace.

it was such an interesting intellectual discussion before the womenz showed up with their actual opinions and shit

Personally speaking I've ran the gambit from being a skinny as hell rocker type to benching over 275lbs Honestly in that time the amount of attention I've gotten from women hasn't changed a whole lot. Now days at the beach with the shirt off I get more looks for sure, but in daily life? Eh, I lift for the feeling of the pump, which is better than sex. If women prefer me big, sweet because that's where I'm headed. If not? That's all good too because i lift for me. For guys reading this thread don't lift because you feel pressured by the opposite sex. Lift because you want to push yourself and see what your capable of.

Sorry if this is a little OT but I'm sure there's plenty of bro's reading this thread wondering if they should be lifting or not and just trying to give some advice.

I was a skinny guy as well and honestly, I just feel better about myself as a bigger dood vs when I looked similar to some of the "skinnier" guys.

You know what's up. Get fit for yourself, or don't get fit,

but everything you do

you do it for youuuuu

Edit: Otherwise you'll end up buff/skinny/whatever and you'll have nothing else to offer 'cause you did it all to fit someone's opinion of who you should be.

I'm in pretty fucking legit shape bro. Bench 275 or more on the regular.

I've been out at the bar and been shown the fuck up by skinny / chubby guys. Saying that women prefer different types is a fact and I've seen it with my own eyes.

And someone did post a study, which showed out of a serious of pictures of mens chest, Brad Pitt from Fight Club was likely by more women than any other 'body type'.

Yeah, I saw that. It just irritated me when I saw the initial posts that I felt the need to comment on it. I mean why couldn't we have started with that instead of the dismissive shit? It's so pointless and doesn't achieve anything other than making the person on the giving end feel a little bit better about themselves for telling someone off on the internet, or something, idk.

Seems to me it's more important that you give even one iota about your appearance, more than very specific physiques.

Every person has preferences. Some of them to the outside observer seem bizarre. All have preferences, but that in no way means they'll will only date in that preference. Most at least. Some people really are that particular.

And that in no way should be a knock against them. Just because someone does like very muscular guys or very busty gals, that doesn't mean they're insulting you by turning you down. It just means they aren't that into you.

Give me an adult human form and I can probably find something to gush over. I have very wide physical standards. In men and women, with a very limited sex drive. My preferences in both are fairly disparate. Men like Shemar Moore are just... yeow. Meanwhile in women my preferences skew towards petite smallbust brunettes. But there's a lot in between that is very very impressive.

I'm a guy... technically... so I can't answer for women, but overall I think I'm a pretty good barometer for the fluidity of attraction.

I don't want to pick a fight, but disagreeing with someone isn't 'attacking'. Some of the responses were snarky, but you'd get the same kinda of responses in a thread asking 'Is such and such movie the best movie?'

Yeah, hence "toned" not "buff."

But what the hell does a female like me know. I mean psssh.

Adding to list of "phrases that invalidate surrounding words"

I also think that wearing the right clothes makes you look better than any amount of physique could. When I dress well, I can see more ladies checking me out than when I go out like a slob on the way to the gym.

:(

I use that term.

Mostly to describe other women that preface stuff with... "I'm not like other girls, I'm cool and hate drama and play vidyagames!111!!!."

*edit: I'm not trying to hate on a gender, I just hear it mostly from other chicks, though the male equivalent is probably the fedora "m'lady i'm not like your asshole douche jock bf i'm NICE and love my mother!"

But I am nice and I do love my mother :(

M'lady.

Whatever makes you happy, and I don't mean that sarcastically. You should do what you want with your body and be happy about it! Yay! /rareinstanceofpositivityfromme

:)

I think it's awesome you are happy with how you look :) That's honestly more sexy than any body type, confidence and shit.

(Sorry I've been saying I am not very attracted to buff guys, hope it didn't offend you or anything)

heh, well saying that I am happy with how I look isn't exactly true as there is so much more I want to achieve but I can appreciate my journey

And why would I be offended? Everyone has their own preferences. For the sake of my ego, I want everyone to fine me desirable but I know that isn't the case.

You seem very revulsed by the notion that people are individuals with their own preferences and agency.

I just don't find them worthwhile in a thread that's asking a more generalized question about a segment of the populace. I prefer large sample data when speaking generally. As it stands, the sample size of this thread, or even this entire forum, is not large enough to speak generally about "what women tend to prefer" on a mass scale. I mean at most this thread can tell us with its small sample size is what the women on gaf tend to like (and even that is questionable, again due to the sample size), which would not necessarily be representative of the general populace, which is what TC was asking after, and is what I came into this thread expecting to be discussed.

And no, I didn't directly respond to Devo's post because it was a transparently obvious strawman that I didn't feel the need to address directly as not to give credence to it.

So discuss it. Go pull up some graphs and statistics and articles instead of getting angry that no one else has.

I know right? btw, teach me how to Macho Man.

I'm wearing it again tomorrow (since it was originally supposed to be for Halloween). My voice is gonna be horse as shit by the end of the night.

I think this is a good mentality to have. It's important to like yourself before worrying about who else likes you.

I personally love my body. The fact that there are others who also appreciate it is just icing on the cake.

:)

Fuck yes man that's what it is about. That feeling you get when you push HARD and you did it to see if you could fucking do it. That is a better feeling that getting a nice look from a girl. Honestly being ripped for looks is over rated and I don't even notice that shit anymore. Now the feeling I get and the confidence when I shatter a milestone? That is priceless.

Women may very well prefer a muscular guy, but lift for YOU.

Oh, well, be happy damn it! :p

Honestly, depending on my bulletproof kink of nice cheekbones being there, I'll find any body type attractive :p

In due time!

And I got them baby fat cheeks. Extremely pinchable.

get lots of pics plz

seriously, such a dope costume

I think women like wisdom, a lack of fear, and passion. I think they can get a sense of this at a quick glance whether they realize it or not.

So discuss it. Go pull up some graphs and statistics and articles instead of getting angry that no one else has.

Me lacking them is the reason I came into this thread hoping to find them. I thought it would be an interesting thread to read through because the question is one that I don't tend to think about at all, and thus don't have a solid foundation for any kind of cognizant opinion on the subject.

And no, I don't consider googling studies on breast sizes to be a good way of finding resources on the subject. Not only due to aggregating problems on google's end (the most popular study will rise to the top vs the most well done one), but because a lot of this stuff is generally locked up in some academic journal or something, so even if you could find something worthwhile the specifics of the study would probably be locked away anyways behind a surcharge for a subscription.

I think women like a varying degree of men. And I think men like a varying degree of women. And also lesbians have a varying degree of attractions, as well as gay and bisexual.

Too bad nobody understands this and likes to paint sexuality as sexist and catering to ONE gender/orientation.

That tall chick with big boobs and cleavage is not catering to men. But to women/men that find that type of person attractive. It is not sexist. It is the human form.

I'm a straight man, but I can't help but be jealous (and maybe even a little attracted?) every time I see this guy:

I wish I looked half as good as he does a lot of the times (except when he went super skinny for a movie role). He seems to have a body type that most women find super attractive.

Perfect guy body IMO. I'm swole but I wish I had the genetics to get that shape. Dem ape arms.

From someone who lifts on the regular with professional body builders this isn't genetics. Its drugs. Which I'm all for PED's personally though I don't use. But to think this is a natural build is false.

You came into a thread about.. based on shirtless pictures of Justin Beiber from an OT thread... how he looks shirtless and questioning if it's appealing to women...

...and seriously expected intellectual discussion with scientifically sound research, preferably of peer-reviewed studies utilizing a large, random, double-blind sample group with one placebo control group?

One of the reasons I like gaf is that these kinds of posts from the more informed side of the community do in fact tend to slip through all the filler. Both Mumei (probably butchered that) and Opiate are two that come off the top of my head who I usually see in these types of threads posting truly fascinating stuff on subjects like this. I don't know, it may be that I'm just on gaf more often now, but it seems like the informative posts are becoming less and less common here vs the dismissive and degrading ones. Especially in threads about social issues, where arguably the more informative posts are the most important, because otherwise you just end up with both sides spitting venom at each other over perceived slights for 1000 posts.

*edit: AND you're accusing this thread of not being a good representation of what women like because the sample size is too small and you're not sure if the sample size here is actually representative of the population of women in whole?!

...because it's not?

There's roughly what, 3.5 billion women on this planet? Probably around 160 million in the US alone? 2.5 million in my own state? The 20ish people in here are not statistically relevant enough to form a representative majority opinion on the question "Do women [in general] prefer buff guys?" That's not degrading their opinions or anything, because there is value to be had in congregating their opinions and analyzing them, but simple statistics.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit that is a sexy man.

Show me another roided BB that has this shape tho.

And I know this dude personally and what he takes.

I would quite enjoy Beiber's physique but he completely ruins it for me. I've always had a thing for tone, tall, skinny guys. But the world is a smorgasbord. So much to choose from.

Jared Leto is Emma Watson with a beard. lol

Yeah for sure I won't disagree. Genetics are something special and make a HUGE difference even with drugs. You don't get Arnolds pecs without genetics no matter what drugs you take.

But I though you were saying this was all natural.
