I know, and I choose not to wear a seat belt, which should be my choice

Given that the decision impacts on other people, they should also have a say in it. Can you please discuss the matter with all your passengers and anyone who you will have an accident with before setting off on each journey? Their choice in the matter is every bit as important as yours.

Theres a good todd barry joke here somewhere

"hey man why don't you put that on"
"You know todd, i'm not really a seat belt kind of guy"
"i'm sorry, i didn't mean to shove my quirky tastes down your throat. I don't really enjoy sushi. You don't enjoy reducing the chances of smashing your head through a windshield. DIFFERENT STROKES"

Everytime. My aunt and cousins died in a car accident before I was born and they weren't wearing seatbelts.

This.

Within the first year of having my license, my seat belt helped save my life when I flipped my Jeep Wrangler on the highway. The roll bars helped too and were probably the main reason I was alive, but at least I wasn't thrown 20-30 yards out of the thing like my backpack was. I only suffered a huge bump on the head and some bloody knuckles.

So yeah, seat belts are my friends.

Woah, how'd that happen?

Is there a reason in particular why you do not use it?

I'd love to see someone come into this thread and even try to offer a plausible reason as to not wear 'em.

I don't like the feeling of it on my shoulder!!!

and the choice of the person sitting in the front seat, whose neck you are going to break with your corpse.

How does my not wearing a seatbelt impact my passengers, who generally do wear seat belts (I assume).

And no, I have no good reason for it other than comfort. (Although, after driving in MA for a couple years, I do rethink it every now and then).

every single time. it came in well when i (with my g/f, and my lil bro (all wearing seatbelts)) rolled my car 500 miles from nowhere in the alaskan tundra. we asked if we were alright, unbuckled, and crawled out of the upside down car through the back door with nary a scratch.

had we not had seatbelts, ejection, broken bones, who knows what else mightve happened.

seatbelts save lives. it's your choice to wear them or not (though there are laws that make it ticketable) but personally i will call you a fool if you choose not too, if only because the "burden" on you is so incredibly low (buckle up, under 5 seconds) and wearing it (not uncomfortable, though if it is, trust me, after a couple years you won't mind) and the upside you get from wearing it is very very high.

so yeah. i always do, and i think (with very good reason and multiple statistics/etc (though there are always the rare 'i got in a wreck and if i hadn't been ejected/if i had worn my seatbelt i'd be dead, so hmph' stories which are the exception, not the rule) to back up my thought process) that you're an idiot to chose not to wear one.

you being anyone who chooses not to wear one.

Welcome back MTHanded

I imagine people that don't wear seatbelts are of the "it won't happen to me cause I'm a great driver" crowd. I consider myself an awesome and agile driver, but anyone whose driven should know that shit can go down whether you drove perfectly or not.

All it takes is one crazy dude running a light or making a turn when they aren't supposed to and now you're shits ruined...all because of what? You didn't want to take 1 second to put on a seatbelt? The minor...VERY MINOR...discomfort isn't worth your life?

...crazy people...

When you fly out of your driver side window leaving your car to flip, spin, and roll away...and wake up standing next to an ambulance...you'll always put your seat-belt on.

Do you have proper health insurance dude?
'cause, if not, the money for your health care if you get in an accident and wind up some where has to come from somewhere. Somebody is paying for it.

Always.

From the first day I started learning how to drive I made sure to wear the seatbelt immediately after sitting at the wheel. Now it's an automatic behavior, don't even have to think about it.

I have no idea, unless it somehow impacts on your ability to control the car after the initial impact and prevent it, say, rolling into oncoming traffic. Still, if you're sure there's no difference in your driving skills between being slightly winded and being dead then that won't be a problem, will it?

I used to feel naked if I didn't have my seatbelt on.

Latley though, I've been driving a good distance without noticing that I don't have it on.

Maybe I've had a lot on my mind latley.

I am fully employed/insured...knock on wood.

I only drive when I am intoxicated beyond the legal limit, which generally means my body will respond more favorably to initial impacts. This will allow me to control the car well after initial impact.

I'm at work, no youtube so I can't watch the safety porn
it shows a guy not wearing a seatbelt sitting behing his mom who is driving. his mom is wearing a seatbelt but when they crash he hits her seat so hard forward that it kills her. it all would have been preventable if he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. HE KILLED HIS MOM and all he has is a broken nose from hitting the seat.

and the video posted on this page posted by Zeouterlimits it shows how one guy not wearing his seatbelt in a collision killed himself and 2 other people by whipping around the car and hit his girlfriends head so hard she had permanent brain damage (she was the only survivor).

this is for anyone who can't watch the youtube vids because of work.

So you admit that what you're doing (not your sarcastic response, but driving without a seatbelt) is completely without a good reason and is in fact dangerous to those that drive with you?

Good.

Now put your fucking seatbelt on and stop being a jackass.

Can someone explain why buses don't have seat belts? It drives me crazy.
I assume because the buses are so big, this if it ever hit another vehicle, it wold just be a scratch on it. No big deal. Plus people need stand anyway.

It restricts my ability to reach the cooler, so mind your own business.

Make sure to watch it later. UK road safety adverts are among the best produced and most awesomely written bits of safety porn you ever will see. It's worth watching some of the speed limit ones too. It's 30 for a reason is one of my favourites.

God. I wish we had this in the US, but parents would cry out "it's too graphic! I don't want my children watching this!"

Your responses are annoying because you either are just ignoring reality entirely or you're trolling just to be a jackass.

Either way I dislike you in this thread.

Movies about seat belts and speed limits? God I cannot wait.

It's honestly a little bit of both. I wear a seat belt if asked, but pretty much only my fiance and my mom ever ask me, and I never wear one when I drive myself.

And I have zero reason for doing so other than habit.

always, unless im doing something like moving parking spots. I cant believe how different it feels to drive without a seat belt, theres so much freedom.

Every singel time, even if I'm only driving to next corner :D But I have a friend who doesn't wear seatbelt because he actually survived from a car crash and only reason for that was he didn't wear seatbelt O_o And by some logic he won't wear them ever again.

I always do especially since its illegal not to wear them, I also makes sure that whoever is in the passenger seat wears it too when I'm driving.
