Do you block your laptop webcam?

Nah, not really. My laptop spends most of it's time either being used by me actively, and I'd notice the webcam, or sat in hibernation in my backpack. So I don't see the point.

Nope. If the NSA or the BND (Germany) wants to survalance me, a little cover wont stop them. Also, if someone wants to see me fuck, fap, browsing and playing games... hey have fun. I will have more fun than you.

Seems like an odd thing to be paranoid about in a world where everyone is attached to their smartphone, which has front and back facing cameras.

On most webcams there isn't. The indicator light is hardwired in such a way that simply sending power to the camera turns it on, so it's literally impossible to run the camera without the light. But there have been ones where it isn't implemented like this and they can be hacked to work without the light coming on.
How is it on MacBooks? I assume the LED is hardwired to come on, yet it's on MacBooks that I see people putting tape on the camera in coffeeshops and stuff.

I used to. Was more so I wouldn't accidentally make a Skype call or something(only audio calls happened so far but you never know). Thanks for reminding me to do it again. Seems even more likely now that I use a computer with a touchscreen

I don't use my laptop enough to worry about it and I at least try to keep my laptop protected when I go online. But hey, if someone wants to watch a fat guy masturbate or browse GAF, then by all means...go ahead.

Wanna watch me with big phones listening to rock and rap while scrolling neogaf or 9gag?
Go ahead, I couldn't give a fuck less.

The webcam for my computer, you have to manually pop it out, so I guess it's blocked by default. The one on my tablet isn't going to see anything interesting and powered most of the time so whatever.

If I found out someone wanted to watch me jerk it I'd just sign up for a cam site and make some money.

Yup.. a little black electrical tape. Don't think I'd have anything worth seeing, just would rather have it there than not. I peel back the tape a little when I need to use it, flip it back when it's done. Almost more like a lens cap anymore..

Gotta go all in sometimes.

LOL wtf no.

its fucking dumb how paranoid some people are. Stop using internet, texting, googling, phone call, facebook EVERYTHING. If you think someone has time to spy on you.
I think we've officially rolled down the slippery slope when it comes down to privacy. In the future I could see caring about it to make you look like a nutjob.

I see it all the time with people at work. They put a post-it on it.

It makes at least a bit of sense in a work environment where you probably don't control the software installed on your machines and want to prevent your employer from seeing you slack off or something.

Personal machines? Doesn't make a lick.

I taped my work laptop's webcam.

Not simply because of paranoia. We use a communications program called Lync [it's a Skype spinoff], which which can be used to send and receive calls the regular way [as in, with a connected headset], but you can also send and receive video [conference] calls. And I don't want people to webcam-call me, regardless of the reason.

Aside from that, there are several programs running in the background at all times which I can't fully identify. I severy doubt "the company" is watching, but they're experimenting with all sorts of tracking lately, so you never know.

I thought Lync is an extention of outlook since it's directly tied with messaging internal contacts. Making it much easier to set up meetings, reminders, group emails and etc. Also for group chats or perhaps presentations so you don't have to all cram into a small room looking at screen.

I did not know it was a spin off of Skype, the more consumer friendly version of video chat.

I think we had this topic a few months ago. I'm still at the paranoia to privacy ratio is still no where near close for me to care. If you want to try and jerk it to me staring at a screen go nuts, glad to be of help. If you want to try and shame/extort me, you're going to have to try harder.

This. Macbook camera light turns green when it's on. So I'd know.

Will point out that the light can be disable and have the webcam still work. But if someone did go to that much effort, I'd probably just let them have a looky.

My ex used to do this, but I don't since I use my laptop mainly for university or on an offline community meet-up, nothing exciting to get. But I am sometimes scared if my phone records. The shit that thing has seen.

No. I was under the impression that all latest laptops have LEDs hardwired to the camera, or is that not the case?
