Do you judge people based on their avatars?

Not really....unless it's an avatar made for trolling, which IMO says a lot about the person.



Also, uh, is my avatar considered anime?
 
To be quite honest, I don't judge from such. I find insane post history to be a much more accurate indicator for to pass judgment. Most of the time I only recall/notice avatars with attractive women anyway and don't think much at that point except that people have good taste? I look at my avatar and think what does that tell people about myself? *shrugs shoulders*
 
No, people with stupid avatars aren't always stupid posters. If avatars became a reliable enough indicator of post quality, then yes I would start judging people based on their avatars. Statistical discrimination is just rational most of the time.

For my part, I don't judge people by their avatar at all, but I do associate them with the poster, and when I read someone's name, I immediately think about their avatar.

By contrast, I was told in the latest "Weekend Boxoffice" thread that I had no right to judge Avatar (the film) because my own avatar was from the prequels. Clearly the person writing it had judged me, and my film tastes, simply from looking at the image under my name.

It only works if i type stuff like "WTF IS THAT?", "HOLY FUCKING SHIT", "MIND BLOWN!".

Not with what i said sooner. Do you really read "I swear i don't overact like that" with the kind of reaction the AVGN have in my avatar? Nope, because that doesn't work!
 
I'm assuming most people pick an avatar that says a little something about him or herself... so yeah, I'm sure there is a slight judgement there.

I really did. :lol And it does work. You just need the specific tone of the "voice" in your head, while reading it, and it works. :D

Well, i guess if you read most of my posts with the AVGN's voice, it kind of works i suppose if what i say have a small excuse to overact like him.

I know i would, i watched his reviews too much recently... :|
 
I hate Wii's avatar, but other than that and the new junior who tried to give me seizures, I generally don't judge people based on avatars when there's ample other reasons to judge them when they post.

wat. Astrolad is 500% more awesome when read as Chan trolling the shit out of people. The fact that it's totally believable she'd waste time on a random gaming message board to do so makes it even better.

And there are only like three avatars on the whole board that bother me enough to just tune out their posts. I actually still have bad_boy on ignore for his fucking avatar even though I'm pretty sure he's been perma banned. Well and for the stupid things he posts, but that goddamn black televangelist avatar annoys the fuck out of me too much. I forget who one of the poster's name is, but the avatar is Nathan Drake in one those really awful "I'm auditioning for a Dreamworks movie" poses with an eyepatch. And the last is Sebulon3k's. Although I think I've read enough of anything Sebulon's posted to feel vindicated for dismissing it beforehand.
 
I don't judge people based on their avatars, but then I'm new here. Let's see what happens after some time has passed.

What is the big deal with anime avatars? It annoys me when people say they automatically disregard posters with anime avatars. Remind me how its any worse than video game avatars or hot chick avatars?

Well of course, aisle sitters should be dealt with violently, but we shouldn't take the fight to the forum. Its like in the civil war where the soldiers would befriend each other and chill out between battles.
