Do you judge people based on their avatars?

I know I shouldn't, but some avatars just make me hate the poster without even knowing anything about them.

This avatar:

, as an example. I don't know anything about the poster and for all I know he/she is a good, decent human being. But it hurts my eyes a bit when I focus on it and kind of pisses me off. It's just a fucking picture, but any time I see them posting I'm automatically predisposed to read whatever they post in a negative light.

Hell yeah. The people without avatars get the harshest judgment though, and by that I mean they get completely ignored :lol

I tend to judge people more based on their tags.

The Alison Brie avatars make me never want to watch Community.

People judge people with anime/manga avatars more often than not. Despite the site owner bearing one.

In a thread some time back, people hated on my opinion because I had a South Park avatar. :(

I don't judge people by their avatar, but I definitely judge them by their grammar. Not that mine is perfect, but if no attempt at all is made to type coherently or intelligently, I don't care what you have to say. Thankfully, that's very rare here on Gaf.

Seriously. There are a few people here and there, but if i step into any other forum, its just fucking disgusting. I cannot stand reading the posts.

It's never based on JUST their avatar or their tag, but definitely alongside the content of the post, the username+tag+avatar plays a part.

PantherLotus's tag and up-herself dancing Japanese chick infuriates me for some reason. One of the reasons I try to not care about politics any more.

That dancing chick is Korean, I think. I know this because I've seen the video. :lol

I'm predisposed to read posts by avatars I find interesting, if I don't already know the person, than those that are kind of... standard. Ones with sports figures I tend to pass over. The person could be really interesting and have some insightful things to say, but it's the sports avatar that kills it for me.

Also, I like to read animated avatars more than anything else.

Oh, and anime/random video game chick avatars always get an eyeroll. Including mine. The hell was I thinking?

Also, my avatar hurts my eyes because I couldn't speed up the animation without making it bigger in size. Ugh.

not really. most of the time the avatar doesn't have anything to do with what i actually dislike about a poster that bothers me.
but a few times i end up associating the avatar of said user to them and remember them whenever i see the avatar.

You fucking ass. We both know it's because you have horrendous reasoning skills, zero political depth, and childlike ignorance of reality. Seeing Taeyeon, with her two #1's in the air, pointing at the username of the Professional Schmuck who just destroyed what little grip you have left on your ridiculous political wonderland is what infuriates you. I know if you really cared about politics (or believed any of your barely-coherent nonsense) you'd be happy to post in there.

It's not my avatar, it's your ability. And if it IS my avatar, it's only that she's reminding you of your lack of it.

Carry on.

You know, my avatar is of some random Gaucho. I never thought of the possibility that he could be a huge jerk in real life.

PantherLotus, you are my #1 favorite poster of all time. That is all.

1) Right on cue, predictable schmucky insulting reply.
2) I hate politics, always have. I originally posted in PoliGAF because I hated 'politics-as-usual'. Not the type of pseudo dislike for politics-as-usual that one usually expresses, but a seething hatred for the fucked up political system as a whole, against which Ron Paul has been the most reasonable spokesperson for a while, imho. I care about politics, but in a different way than you, and you simply don't accept that one can be sane and share my hatred for it.
3) Nice try goading me, but that's it from me on this.

I think the OP has a good question.

For me, I don't typically pre-judge a person's post because of their avatar. Though, as somebody else said, I'm more likely to read it if they have one. More, I usually begin to associate certain avatars with quality posts, and when they catch my eye, the little spinning mousewheel is a just a teeny bit more likely to stop.

However, there are a certain few posters that have the either nasty avatars, poorly designed avatars, and/or eye-bleeding effects, in combination with dumb/stupid/backwater/lower life form/un-evolved/Republican/Libertarian philosophy and posting style that makes me cringe. I can't help it.

As I'm writing this, I can tell you very, very few usernames--but I can tell you which avatars go with good posters.

I try not to. It's hard not to.

btw, I do really hate animated gif avatars (the post above me reminded me of that). I usually use one because it's almost like a skunk mechanism to ward off those you judge me on my avatar and not my crappy ass posts.
