Do you judge people based on their avatars?

It works the other way around for me. I judge things in people's avatars based on their post history. :\ All of a sudden, I'll start hating or wanting to check out whatever is in their avatar.

Although, I will admit the furry and little anime girl avatars do creep me out a little.

1) Right on cue, predictable schmucky insulting reply.
2) I hate politics, always have. I originally posted in PoliGAF because I hated 'politics-as-usual'. Not the type of pseudo dislike for politics-as-usual that one usually expresses, but a seething hatred for the fucked up political system as a whole, against which Ron Paul has been the most reasonable spokesperson for a while, imho. I care about politics, but in a different way than you, and you simply don't accept that one can be sane and share my hatred for it.
3) Nice try goading me, but that's it from me on this.

Is that you in your avatar? :lol

yes.

nothing good has ever come from a handegg avatar.

I feel the need here to fix "handegg" to "anime" and avatar quote you (even though I don't necessarily feel that would be the case), but I'm trying hard to be a better person. For Jesus.

It's never based on JUST their avatar or their tag, but definitely alongside the content of the post, the username+tag+avatar plays a part.

PantherLotus's tag and up-herself dancing Japanese chick infuriates me for some reason. One of the reasons I try to not care about politics any more.

I love that dancing girl.

The Alison Brie avatars make me never want to watch Community.

These avatars piss me off because everyone with her and the blonde chick have become one person to me. I can't tell these fuckers apart AT ALL. Costanza is the only one I can tell, the rest are just one rolling ball of posting.

Guys, stop using the Community avatars, please. For the love of god.

Also, no offense to anyone who does it and I've done it myself, but really timely avatars kinda annoy me. Recently Sonic 4 was announced and you have a bunch of people with those avatars. During the whole Conan leaving NBC thing you had a bunch of people with Conan avatars. Michael Jackson's death, Avatar release, etc etc.

The blonde chick? You mean mine? :(

No. She is ridiculously fine.

I mean the chick from Community.

I might switch back to my all red-heads Avatar now that I have a lot of new ladies to show off.

I think a mod judged me by my avatar. The day I changed it I was banned for 6 months for saying "yuck" at transgender that won a beauty contest. It always bugged me because I felt if I had the previous avatar I would not have been banned over something like that.

I don't judge anyone based on there avatars but I do find these ones with these super cute girls doing cut things annoying. Also the ones with Asian kids have to go.

Tag first, avatar second, white space used in post third, and signing thier post fourth.

And lastly, if their mom makes me cookies.
Signing your post is the fastest way to make me look down on you.

And she loves you, my child. When she looks down and to the left, that's her way of saying, "I'm thinking about something that would make you smile."

What music video is your avatar taken from?

I'm 99.999*% sure I've asked you this before.

I actually enjoy seeing all the different avatars. I often think what decision process went into choosing it, what they wanted, the look, animated? a statement? funny? all the world's possibilities. I don't judge anyone by their avatar. ever. it's kind of childish, isn't OP?

Do a lot of posters actually do that? I've only seen like 3 at most.
Not many, but it annoys the hell out of me once I notice they are doing it.

Fun fact: My avatar is animated. Look at it for a moment, you should see it.

I never 'get' the reason behind all the anime avatar hate.

Its because people think their tv shows/generic games/manly avatars are better. Makes them feel good and superior i guess.

Only if the avatar is indistinguishable from a million other bandwagoners out there or if the avatar normally features a console-exclusive game character. Occasionally I'll put a poster on ignore if their avatar is NSFW.

Normally though, I read through the text en masse and don't even check who wrote what. Sometimes, if the content is really good or really bad or seems like a joke post, I'll look left and see who wrote it and make a judgement based on a) their post history if they're known to me b) their tag/avatar combo if they're not. I'm sorry to say that middling posts are just one big anonymous wash to me.

It's all good. It's SNSD (Girl's Generation). If anybody can make me a similarly-good avatar from their video from Gee or from Chocolate, I can't describe how happy I would be.

I've been staring at it for a while, it's not doing shit... oh, damn. It blinked.

So, what types of people do you think you can point out from their avatars? (under the assumption that these types of people have some sort of common quality
The first thing that came to mind is the..let's say.. anime lovers? cant really think of anything else, or what this tells me about the person...

I'd say though that overly animated avatars give the sense that the person using it might be annoying personally

Yes, it blinks. Its so tiny, I bet you 90% of posters never notice that little detail.

(Anther fun fact is to make sure it doesn't get resized, its in a transparent 90x120 box. Also allows it to be centered.)

No I don't, I always read the post first and then sometimes I notice the avatar. If for some reason I notice the posters name and tag well then, I just do.

I always notice PantherLotus' avatar because there is a lot of movement and that chicks shirt is really, really red. Theirs is about the only av that I notice before the post.

But even so, it means nothing to me.

Whoa! Never noticed that and I've seen you post a lot. Guess I'm not as observant as I thought :/

All the time, especially if it is an anime avatar. I tend just to ignore their opinion if so. :lol
You all realize how many mods sport anime avatars? Or does the red username simply make them exempt from this?

Sometimes, but only minor judgments. The content of the post is what matters.

For example, OP, you've got a Berserk avatar, which gets a thumbs up. And I suppose I found the thread interesting enough to comment in, so thumbs up there too.
