Do you quit when you are losing in online games?

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
From my anecdotal experiences, online games are inundated with people who can't stand losing and would rather quit than continue fighting for a comeback. I believe this is a reflection of the current attitude in society. Life doesn't allow you to quit, so people just give up and whine instead. For all the positive things online video games have brought to people, perhaps this is the worst negative.

Perhaps I am just fuming because I can't finish a darn game of FIFA UT on which I take an early lead.
 
I don't but well designed game systems that people take pride in their performance help prevent that. iRacing, for all their faults, do an excellent job of this through safety rating and iRating.
 
It depends on how long the matches are... I stopped playing League of Legends, since each match could even last 40 or more minutes sometimes just to lose because some idiot started feeling Goku, got frustrated after the team called them out for that, etc...

And if one leaves the match then will get a penalty or a ban so we have to wait till the match ends (and pray for people to not saboteage surrender request just "for the lolz"). Not that I'm the kind of person that want to quit after first insight of losing...

No never. Granted I don't play that much online these days, but I find it disrespectful to my opponent and to the spirit of competition. I don't derive my sense of worth from winning - despite how much it feels good to win. I do, however, feel a sense of worth in respecting those who have made a decision to invest their time playing with me. If someone is far better than me at something, it's all good. I'll either try to improve or play something else.
 
In the past i did with quake and ut2k4 basically only in games i take serious to the point of aiming for high skill 1on1 and only in matches in which everything has gone wrong.
Today nope.. mostly because todays multiplayer games are not worth giving a shit about in terms of 1on1.
 
Nope, never. Besides, most of the online multiplayer games I play won't give you the game rewards (generally exp) if you quit early like Overwatch or Dead by Daylight.
 
I didn't do it until I saw a maximiliandood video dedicated to stamping it out like if it's some sort of airborne virus targeting us for death.
 
I don't play multiplayer games were I can lose generally (against other players), 99% of the time I play it's on PvE servers.

I do sometimes. It depends on who you're playing with. I don't mind losing tight, exciting games when everyone's on board. But when you're paired with players that either don't care or understand the game at all, I see no point in wasting time continuing the match if it's early in. I'm not mad about it, I just don't have enough time to spare to keep playing pointless rounds.
 
I quit if everyone else on my team quits, even then I sometimes stay anyway for shits and giggles. I also quit if there is clear cheating going on, I got not time for that bullshit. If the other team is full of try hards, I won't quit during the match, but I will leave between matches (no fun having such imbalanced teams in regards to skill).
 
In the middle of the match? No.
But after that regardless if I either had won or had lost, if real life calls me then I quit. No hard feelings. Family needs my attention.
 
I don't play MP much anymore, but when I play shooters, I don't quit often. Sometimes in frustration when teammates are so bad or they are quitting I bail too. It's frustrating trying to hold your own, do a check of the scoreboard and notice half your team bailed. So it's now 3 of you vs a team of 6. I have no interest waiting and hoping for the game to shove in more gamers on my side because there is no guarantee the game will fill out my team.

If shooters had better matchmaking..... skillset and quit frequency it would be better.

I believe aren't there some shooters that penalize quitters with their own quitter zone? If so, this should apply to all MP games. To get back to the normal lobbies, you got to be a man and play through games start to finish.

No because i can learn from all of it. I may start focusing more on figuring out what is not working than winning but by that point that ship has sailed so I can test different things more freely
 
I don't play competitive games anymore (I find most to be boring and uninspired) but when I did it would really depend. Did I feel like I was losing because I needed to be better? Or because the matchmaking was a joke and my team was trash? If the former I'd stay and take my punishing. If the latter I'm out.

I don't think I've ever spotted a so called tryhard during my probably too many years of online play. My teammates/opponents are either shitty for real, decent or great. I've seen plenty of people use the term during play, though, but I don't get why.
 
No I'm not a bitch. I take my loss and turn it into a win that's why I'm almost reaching platinum in Apex, already a platinum in Siege and once upon a time I was top 200 in Overwatch. If you're a bitch don't play competitive online games. As simple as that
 
anyone just do what the hell they want because there is no rules about it or anything .... anyway because of all those people who ruining most online games i never play them . and i wont .
 
Nah and I hate when I'm playing Alcatraz quads on blackout and ppl quit as soon as thy die once it's fucking stupid. I never understand that.
 
No, you don't learn anything from quitting. Stick with the loss as you would with a win. The only time you should quit if there's unbelievable lag. No point in wasting your time to game-stopping lag.
 
I have quit multiplayer games before mainly on occasions like say Blops 4 I would be running solo in TDM with a bunch of unranked pubs and go up against a premade group of high levels.

Or like one other guy said playing a game of Rocket League and get matched up against a pair of Grand Champions.

Don't give me the whole well I will never get any better as I am 52 years old dont care to get much better dont have the time to invest in getting much better so want to enjoy my time when I do have it for gaming.

Maybe I'm misusing the word. I meant when the other team has 1 or 2 people who are far more skilled than anyone else in the match. They tend to dominate making it unjoyable for playing against them and boring for those in the same team. Rather than play with those on their same skill level, they play with noobs.

That's the problem with matchmaking..... at least for Call of Duty.

I believe there is some kind of matchmaking believe it or not. But it tries to get a game going as fast as possible, so the teams might be kind of balanced, but it's more like a random mash up of 2 good players, 2 avg players and 2 bad players. Someone can interpret that as a balanced team. But it's odd. You play a game and the it has lobbies of decent leveled players who have played all month, and then suddenly a random level 3 player joins the lobby. WTF? That gamer should be shoved into a lobby of level 10s or under. And only shoved into higher level lobbies if there aren't any weaker/less experienced player lobbies left. There's got to be gamers playing that are similar level.... just have that gamer wait until more suitable lobbies open up in 2 minutes.

Personally, I'd rather have teams as best as possible have 5-6 players of similar performance and skillset and quit frequency go up against a similar team.

I guess all these devs can't program fast enough server searches to make balanced teams of similar players.

Quit, no, but ask for a surrender when possible. Specially when I'm playing with people that are trolling or are so bad that I can't see any chance of winning.

But they are truly great players, not tryhards? At least according to wiktionary's definition of said expression (I've never really understood the term, though). And they can't really help who they're teamed up with when in matchmaking?!

I personally take great pleasure in gibbing such pros, so I tend to stick around if the teams are at least somewhat equal! :)

I am fine with getting beat I dont mind.

I am not fine with crappy MM when your team is getting totally destroyed by a far superior premade team.

I am not getting better by playing against teams like that.

Again I may have misused the word. Having a balanced teams is great, when one team narrowly wins and vice versa. Then one or two highly skilled players join and throw everything out of whack. Whether they join matches with novices intentionally or it's the fault of the matchmaking, it really sucks and ruins my enjoyment of the game. Even if such players are on my team it sucks because it makes the match boring.

Yeah, I think we all can agree on the fact that unbalanced teams aren't all that fun. Unless you're on the winning side! ;)

For sure! :)

It goes like this:

Best outcome = our team won and I had a great game

Good outcome* = our team won and I didn't contribute much

Meh outcome* = our team lost, but I still kicked ass that match

Worst outcome = our team lost, and I did terrible too

* depending on the gamer, they might flip flip these outcomes due to personal preference
 
No, but I only really play The Last of Us online anyhow. If it's my last game and I've lost my last spawn I won't bother watching the remaining team mates. This might fuck them up as I may be hosting, I'm never sure.
The only other time is if someone is obviously cheating with a lag switch, then I'll quit no problem.

Why does it bother you so much that those people want to continue sheltering themselves or may have a moment of total frustration where they need to back out and settle back into reality?
 
Very rare, but it happens. It's not usual to play online in first place, but I quit when something like other players are just fucking around or I just don't feel great about the game that moment.

Happend "recently" in Overwatch, when my team was doing nothing for nothing, so I quit. And one time, in the same day, that no one was playing well.
 
If it acts like League of Legends, where my matches are 100% ragequits, no connected players and full of trolls, then yes.

Just ask yourself how can anyone even have fun with that?
 
Depends on the game and how badly I am losing.. Like, if I know I have lost and there is nothing i can do, and the other guys know i have already lost.. aren't i just stealing everyone's time by staying?

Don't you just hate that guy in Warcraft 3 that keeps running around with that 1 surviving worker hiding houses all over the map so that the match doesn't end, in the hope that your patience or time runs out and you quit before him?

Because I enjoy competition and I want to see a game until the end. There is something unsavory about winning against a quitter. It is almost as if it didn't count, there is no pride in it.

You don't go fucking your team because you're frustrated especially in ranked. Don't give a damn if anyone quits from quick/casual playlist because the game will throw one back in the team
 
If it's something solo, sure. Just put in the gg when you know it's over and surrender.

In a team game just suffer it out even when you know it's over. Your other teammates might be newbies that need to learn from the loss.
