Do you still care about the MGS franchise?

As bad as it sounds, yes, I was teaming with excitement when I head about Ground Zeroes. I have the original 4, bought MGS3 twice on the Playstation 2. I just bought the HD collection on the Playstation 3 as well as owning both MGS portables on the PSP.

I am not going to lie, I am still excited. I am not sure why I love these games so much??? I mean MGS3 is by far my favorite MGS, and probably in my top 5 games of all time. Such memorable themes, music, bosses, characters, and the themes presented in the story were just soooo good, and I sucked up the soviet cold war era along with all the political themes and/or lessons Kojima slipped in. I mean sure, they are not super mind blowing statements about eh political climate, but I just love the way he fits them into his plot lines.

I already answered yes in this thread, but now that I've complete the first Metal gear solid again, I'll change my answer to a resounding YES!!

Its been, say, 14 years since I've last played this game and I've always liked the first MGS, but as I played through each subsequent game in the series, some part of me always thought, through some type of rose-colored nostalgia goggles, it made my memories of the game more enjoyable than actually playing through it.

Oh boy, was I wrong. Metal Gear Solid is no joke.

Grounded story (for this series), awesome plot, great cast of characters, incredible music, the twist and turns, etc. The gameplay even holds up... mostly. You still have a few instances where there are some archaic design choices, like you having to equip card keys before entering a door (which honestly is very infuriating) and aiming is an utter joke ([read: nonexistent] which I guess I get since this is meant to be a real "stealth" game), but other than that, this game still plays great 14 years later. Also, to no fault of the game itself, the backtouch on the Vita made the first portions of the game pretty annoying earlier on since the most subtle touch brings up the weapon/item menu. So I had to learn to hold the Vita in a very specific way since you can't disable backtouch for PS1 emulation. Which blows.

All in all, I greatly enjoyed this trip down memory lane. I learned a great deal that makes me understand this series a lot more. A lot of things I forgot I now remember (I honestly didn't even know Solidus Snake was mentioned in the first game) and I also really enjoyed seeing how the relationship between Snake and Otacon started and grew, especially considering how it flourished into what it is presently now in this franchises latest entry, MGS4.

Re-playing this game has been an utter joy and honestly I felt as engrossed as I did back in 1998 playing this on my "small" crummy 27'' CRT TV. I can't wait to jump into MGS2 now and each game to follow. Again.

No haven't followed it since MGS4 and skipped Peace Walker. GoP just shattered my soul.

Was the biggest fan ever too...

Yes! And judging from the reaction from the interwebs, a TON of people still do! It seems like the MGS games might be one of the only Japanese games that has this much clout left in it...dare I say it? It's a system-seller.

I love the gameplay, cinematic approach (not the codec, obviously) but hate the whole convoluted storyline that MGS2 brought to the table. MGS3's story was good but MGS2 was just ecch...

Still very much excited for Ground Zeroes. Kinda glad that it's for current-gen so we don't have to wait so long for another Metal Gear game. :D

I'm going to be blunt. I care about real Metal Gear games. Full on Kojima developed console games. Handheld games with mission based gameplay, comic-book style cutscenes are not what makes me care about Metal Gear. So fuck Portal Ops or Peace walker, and fuck the original Metal Gear while were at it. Crazy, expensive, engrossing or not at all.

No, not anymore, but I'm open to having my mind changed on this. MGS5 Vapor Snake or similar madness would definitely interest me.

I never cared about the MGS franchise, but MGS Rising and Ground Zeroes have caught my interest.

I own MGS2 and MGS3. MGS2 didn't do anything for me. I just don't enjoy that type of gameplay I guess, and the plot didn't grab me. I really tried to get into MGS3 but I got stuck at the bridge in the opening level and haven't picked up the game since.

Mgs4 was my first mgs title as the crazy hupe convinced me to get it and it was...meh, story was mediocre but there were some real fun gameplay moments albeit not enough of them. I really had lost all interest but ground zeroes has me excited for some reason and I bought mgs3 for the vita on impulse :/ so i guess im still interested.

Well, bump aside, I most definitely do, but I haven't played 4 or 5 yet. I've been scared of contaminating my love for the franchise, but I'll get to them sooner or later.

I'm a huge fan, in fact it's one of the rare franchises I would say I'm a fan off.

And I hope to god, Konami will never dare release another one without Kojima and put it to rest, because Survive is already scummy as it is, for them to completely destroy the saga by releasing a crap sequel/prequel, whatever.

It died after 3 and the the psp one.
4 and 5 are trash whatever kojima did in the past storywise he lost it.
We will see with death stranding. Maybe konami limited his limitless "talent"

But def no hype here yawn

After MGS5 no....and with Kojima departed and Konami not even in the least bit interested in what made it so great between 1998-2008... I can't say I am all that concerned about what the future is for the franchise...

Good Games

Not at all. Loved MGS, enjoyed 2, got through 3 and would have been fine with 4 being the end. Never cared about the handheld ones or the 17 side stories that felt like came after. Finished 5 and honestly it felt like a hollow shell of an open world game. At least I had Quiet to look at. I would be happy if this franchise just went away for a long time.

How about a new good Splinter Cell from the ground up instead of more nanomachines nonsense

Give Kojima credit, he created an all time great star in "Solid Snake" and I think any effort put into developing Snake is good as is with a Mario or Link.
